Nice hearing all the questions and answers. Blow out the wall with a big window and plant a nice deciduous tree so you can get the shade from it in the hot summer months, and all of the light/heat during the winter when the leaves are gone. Nice cozy place you guys have there and I am certainly jealous. Happy it appears to be working for you guys. If/when I ever make it there, I’ll bring by some beer from Colorado, or maybe just a 12er of Super Bock.Cheers

Just a suggestion, When I moved to the USA I did not speak English...once I arrived, I started watching tv, specially children shows at the beginning. Then I moved to more adult simple shows, that helped me a lot! Perhaps you could do the same during the winter months. Also listening to music was helpful! I love your channel!!! Thanks for sharing your life with the rest of us!!

Hey guys. I’m also Saffa living in southern Italy. Been here for about a year and a half now. Busy looking around for a little farm as well to see where to start off. My wife’s Italian and we also decided to duck out of the UK before Brexit came into place so I’d be protected by the WA. Weather is better and our rent is a quarter of what I was paying in London. So far so good. I love it here. Happy new year to you both.

Well wishes and stay warm Ken & Gina. Regarding cold homes the issue can be rectified by adding in the future if it meets your budget. ( capote in the outside wall 6 cm and ceilings also need some possible 10 cm xps it would make the home a lot more comfortable. This was why we sold a 28 year old family home with single pain windows an no insulation and purchase a new home with the latest building codes. Because we wanted to spend winter months in Portugal. From Portuguese Canadian snowbirds arriving tomorrow in the Aveiro region hi hi.

Dear Ken & Gina, glad to hv u guys back blogging. I am just wondering if you checked with the Camera Municipal regarding your plans to renew? Depending on how those building areas are registered (rural property vs. habitational) you may or may not rebuild as a living area. Or are they included as part of the residential property? I ask because if the property is registered as a rural, you cannot turn it into a habitational, at least that is my understanding. Also, you need to apply for a rebuild permit with an architectural plan before remodeling as adding windows may be an issue. I know up North in Minho, where my origins are from, you cannot add windows to the front of the house, so make sure you chk into it.

They do not live in the center of a city/ village/ town whatever... or next to a public road ....they live in an isolated "quinta" / farm so what difference makes to open a window in wall or some improvements in the home? off course it's always better to talk to the Camera building services but I do not see any problem at all.....

None they are lucky if they have the walls constructed with a double brick wall separated with a air space ( caixa de ar ) between then ( that is the traditional isolation on the portuguese houses built 25/30 years ago and before that) in houses much older ( more than 50 years ) a lot of then only have single brick wall plastered inside and outside with cement...

I love watching your video's and you both are very nice and fun people, but I dont understand why youre not already more busy with actual farm life. Like.. for exame there is perfect space to raise a big vegetable garden. You could pickle or can lots of veggies to eat during fall and winter time. Raise herb beds and make stuff with that. Build a goat house and make you own cheese. I kind of miss that in your video's, since you live on a propirty which is so suitable for it. Ofcourse you dont need to do all of these things if you dont want to do it, but I sometimes wonder why you dont practice the self reliance life more. I just wonder. Thats all. Thanks for the video again and stay warm out there! 🧚♀️
