I wish my son would grow into a self motivated youth like you in the next a few years. I have been using the same principles like your mom. And he also lived in China with grandparents for a couple of years when I tried to establish a stable life as a first gen immigrant.

hey iris!! in the video, you mentioned how you were super shy when you were younger but you grew more confident over time. what tips do you have to become more comfortable being yourself in front of strangers/people you don’t know well and gain self-confidence?
@irisfu69294 жыл бұрын
ooof, hard question! I think just going beyond your comfort zone and being even overconfident sometimes in certain situations. Then, when you realize that nothing bad happens, you will gradually become less shy/more confident. Definitely try to join activities that build self-confidence! For me, that was orchestra/band and tennis. Those were team activities where I felt like I had group support but also was pushed to step outside my shell (e.g. perform a solo, play a match in front of many people). Ultimately, after having these nerve-wracking experiences multiple times, my confidence grew!

Can you please make a video about extracurriculars for the corresponding major you want to pursue. Since I want to go into the medicine field, I am confused on what I have to do to make me stand out. btw ur amazing, thank you so much for all of this.
@irisfu69294 жыл бұрын
Hey Sadhika! I think the simple answer is to pursue the field you want to go into deeply! For medicine, try to get you hands on research, with the goal to publish in a journal or win a big research competition. You can always create an org relevant to medicine (think Red Cross, Bill and Melinda Gates, etc, but on a level/scale/idea that you can feasibly act on). Also think about writing a children’s book in medicine/biology. These are just ideas, but I think the level of impact you make with your EC is the the most important!

Hi! Can you talk about college mentors, if you had one, where you found one, and how that works? Thanks!
@irisfu69294 жыл бұрын
Hey!! Yeah I worked with collegevine (they’re like Bullseye but they’re bankrupt now and just a nonprofit lol), so I’d say I worked with an advisor one on one through a platform similar to Bullseye. I also had my school counselor, some teachers, and my mom, but my advisor through collegevine was the best. We had weekly video calls, she looked over almost all of my essays, and helped with early strats/creating a school list, the extracurricular section, and other miscellaneous questions
@kathleen10834 жыл бұрын
@Iris Fu - thanks!!!! Did you find college one through a general google search or was that something your school mentors suggested? Also - what grade do you suggest getting one? Thanks!

hey i have a question! im a high schooler who wants to do psychology as a major when i get to college, and I know somr people do psychology as just a non doctoral major or as a pre med major. how do u let them know that u wanna be pre med in ur college application? or do u tell them after u get accepted into these colleges? sorry im just very confused
@irisfu69294 жыл бұрын
Usually, you don’t declare pre med track or your major until a few years into college, so what you list on your application is purely interest-based and won’t have any effects. On the application, it does ask you to indicate your potential majors and potential career, so you can indicate psych and physician accordingly. Nope this helps but lmk if you have follow up questions!
