I so appreciatte you answering questions re: your Mennonite and Amish upbringing. As for the head covering, are there women at your church that do not cover their heads? Would you consider it rebellious if Oaklyn decided not to cover, but did have a relationship with the Lord? Your channel is so peaceful to watch and I enjoy everything you post. It's a little bit of a lot of things with scripture and your faith sprinkled in. Thank you and bless you.

Yes- there are women who attend that don’t. They aren’t members, but regularly attend 😊 and I’d hope she would want to wear one. But I don’t think it’s necessarily a heaven or hell issue so if she has a walk with the Lord, that would be the most important thing to me. I’d be sad, but it would be her choice! ❤️

Thanks for sharing! Also, we can totally relate to screen time effects with our 5 yo and 6 yo. We limit screen games to rainy days! Our kiddos do watch tv during the day for about an hour because; let’s be honest, sometimes- mama needs a break! 🤪 but I did see a connection to attitude when we started limiting screen time! Glad to know someone else can relate! Checking out your recommendation for the filter! 👍🏻

Interesting part about the Pennsylvania Dutch! Our kids grow up bilingual. As we all understand both languages, we encourage and prioritize the one thats not locally spoken by making it a point to talk ONLY the one less common ALWAYS during family meals. And there we simply "don't understand" the other, more common language. So our very talkative kids are encouraged to talk both languages... And of course we help them with words and phrases, when they don't know.

Set a time limit on some of the "I'm not sure about this one" options and see what rises to the surface in popularity. I am wondering about a head covering for myself. I’ve been studying 1st and 2nd Corinthians and I’m not sure…..my hubs thinks it was a cultural thing….but I’m not seeing that. He doesn’t care if I do decide to wear one though. I’d be the odd one at my Southern Baptist church for sure! But it mentions wearing one while praying and as a Christ follower I pray often during the day. I love your channel Lynette!

I just began covering. It has been a conviction for a while now, and my Pastor teaching 1 Corinthians last month made it vividly clear to me. At first it was awkward because I currently am the only woman to cover, but the weirdness is wearing off, I guess. We should seek to please God and not man/woman anyway. God bless

I've spent probably close to 30 years studying and debating 1 Corinthians 11 (headcovering). I've explored so many different paths, interpretations, cultures, histories. Most of them make some level of sense to me, but none of them could answer the "because of the angels" verse. What do the angels have to do with women covering their heads?! When I started exploring Catholicism I looked into why women (used to) veil at Mass and they answer the "because of the angels" questions. Catholics believe that Mass is "heaven on earth" and that at every Mass the citizens of heaven are present. Women wearing the veil shows that we have an authority over our head (we belong to God). Dr. Alice von Hildebrand goes further saying that when women bear children, the Lord enters us to create the soul of that child. Anything touched by God is sacred. Anything sacred is veiled (think of the Arc of the Covenant, or Moses' face after seeing God). Women veil because we are co-creators with God of spiritual beings (humans with a spirit). It is a sign of reverence, respect, protection. It isn't a sign of weakness or shame. It shows to WHOM we belong and that we are not women to be trifled with. We are not "of the world" but belong to God. What about the whole "man over woman" thing? That just shows that in God's ideal arrangement, the man is to protect and provide for the woman. Whether it is his loving wife, or the widows of the congregation, men are to use their God-given strength to work and provide for those who may be weaker than him. (Let's face it, without technology and because of the vulnerability of our reproductive biology, women are at a physical state of weakness to the elements, to poverty, to those who would harm us.) This isn't because women are "less than," but because women are to be shown the deference and honor of being co-creators with God. This is why "women and children first" was a biggie. This is why men are expected to stand in the way of the gunman and the women and children. Unfortunately, all this has been grossly misinterpreted in overtly sexual ways or in ways of masculine authority/feminine servitude. A woman's submission isn't to be "less than," but rather to place herself within the protection of God and of her husband, and even of the church so she and her children will be provided for in this cruel world that would sooner harm than help. The veiling, the covering is a sign of that that extends all the way to the heavens. The angels can look and see who belongs to God. When you walk around Sarasota, or go on vacation, people can look at you, Lynette and see that you belong to a community. You have a level of protection, provision, and belonging. I don't veil, unless I go to a Catholic Mass, but sometimes I just like accessorizing with a headscarf of some sort, and let me tell you I notice right away that people treat me with more deference and respect. Quick story: I had to see the same physician twice within several weeks. The first time I wore just jeans, t shirt and pony tail and it was a very basic, hurried, not-quite-connecting visit. The second time I wore a long skirt and a headscarf just because it was my outfit of the day. It was a completely different "vibe." She greeted me warmly, listened intently to me, took her time, smiled more, looked me in the eyes, answered me, didn't interrupt me, asked about my faith. Thanks for coming to my TEDtalk. LOL!
@LynetteYoder3 жыл бұрын
I really enjoyed reading your thoughts. And I would agree with you on most of it I think! I’ve heard that same similar explanation about the angels thing. But I do feel like it gives a level of protection when I’m out in public like you mentioned - or more respect given maybe? Not always, obviously. But it’s often that people innately know that there’s something different about a covered women. They tend to watch their language a bit more. Just some thoughts I had .. thank you for sharing !

I love the way you always dress modestly. You always look so nice. Thank you for sharing your faith. On using middle names, do you use the middle name when calling your child as a form of getting prompt attention?

I really enjoy you explaining a lot about your religion. I have always been curios about other religions so it was especially wonderful for me. Thank you for your videos.

That’s something I’m trying to work on is not putting more than one style together! Currently I would say it’s kinda modern farmhouse but not sure if that catches it all😅. I love following you for some tips and ideas as I love decorating as well!
