My favourite apologists on the same stage, can it get any better? Love Tactics by Greg Koukl. Dr Frank Turek, solid as always, and recently discovered Eric Hernandez taking up the case for Christ. God bless you all.

Grace and Peace to you. Greg's comments about when the canon was completed were interesting, particularly because of its eschatological implications. He thinks Revelation was written before 70 AD. I think perhaps the strongest internal evidence that this can't be true is with regard to the letter to the church of Laodicea. In 60 AD, Laodicea was ravaged by an earthquake. Are we to believe that before 70 AD, the city recovered to the point to where it described itself as rich, wealthy and in need of nothing (Revelation 3:17)? In order for preterism to be true, Revelation must be dated early (before the destruction of the temple in 70 AD). My guess is that Greg is a preterist.
@EricHernandez2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is a great point. I do not hold to preterism myself, but I also don't study much eschatology because it's not of much interest to me. But I would reject preterism. Great point!

@@EricHernandez Thanks, brother. I LOVE eschatology and prophecy in general, so I naturally key in on comments like Greg's. Btw, I know you're extremely busy and may not have time for what I'm about to suggest, but there's no downside and potentially great upside. Therefore, I'm going for it. I've been speaking with an atheist for 12 months. We met each other for the first time last week in Romeoville, Illinois. He's sharp and fun to talk to. He's a Jesus Mythicist, so he obviously doesn't believe that the soul exists. Great job against Ben, btw. Anyway, this guy (his name is Will) has quite a lot to say about how the soul cannot possibly exist. I believe you can answer his objections. Like Leighton, my primary interest and skill set is in theology, not philosophy, so I'm not currently equipped to do what you do. Will has been on Modern Day Debate before, so he's fairly polished. He has his own channel and has some content, but I don't know if he's produced anything recently. If you're interested in talking with him, then I'd love to set that up. The fewer objections he has to theism, the better. Again, I know you're busy, so I understand if you're not available. Thanks for your consideration.

The Calvinist: I don’t think, therefore I am not.
@WhatYourPastorDidntTellYou2 жыл бұрын
2:25 Anytime someone mentions “Darwinian evolution”, you can already tell they don’t know what they are talking about. No evolutionary biologists in the field have held to purely Darwinistic mechanisms since the 1960’s. I think Koukl is an awesome apologist for the faith but we as Christians need to do better.
@hwd72 жыл бұрын
Can you please share what the current definition of evolution is and how it differs from Darwinian evolution, since you are so knowledgeable on this so I don't make that mistake ?
@MikeTMike2 күн бұрын
You've admitted that your faith needs defending. However, the truth doesnt need defending. That means your faith and the truth are very different things. Also, the truth doesn't need apologetics. Do you agree?

To me Molinism just sounds like a much more convoluted form of Calvinism. My issue is not with Him having foreknowledge (knowing what we will do) which I definitely believe He has, or even middle knowledge, in the sense that He knows what I’d most likely do in any given circumstance (since He knows me even better than I do) and using that to achieve His good purposes (like I would with my children for example), my problem is with the “possible worlds” scenario. If God premeditatedly thought of different worlds and possibilities before creating this one, and only actuated a world in which people in some given circumstances will respond the way He wants them too (even without causing them to), He is effectually predetermining who will be saved and who won’t, because freedom would just be an illusion since He chose to create this particular world and rejected the other worlds, so He would ultimately be the author of evil and sin because, given many options, He would have predetermined to create the world in which Adam and Eve sinned. And since we know that God is not the author of sin we cannot postulate that He premeditatedly created the world where they would sin. I personally don’t think that God picked and chose one specific world, because the only way that all this is not just a big game, is that if God just created one world (without considering other possible worlds) and gave us all free will, period. Because if you make God to be someone who picks and chooses between different possible worlds in order to accomplish his purposes, you definitely end up in determinism (albeit a more disguised and convoluted one compared to Calvinism), and you’d also grossly underestimate God’s power as well as taint His intentions. God is not like a big computer that spews out the best possible scenario just to win some sort of game, God created us out of love and in order to have a relationship with us and He made us in His image and our life is immeasurably valuable to Him, and He is so powerful that He can create just one world, and still achieve His ultimate purpose. Or it would all really sound like cheating, wouldn’t it?

Hey Eric a bit off-topic but are you aware that Jason Petersen is no longer a presuppositional apologist? Y’all had a debate between the differences of classical and presupp apologetics.
