I became aware of Greg Koukl via Mike Winger. So, I ordered his book "Tactics", but I wanted to explore it sooner than it would arrive, so I also bought it on Kindle. It has allowed me to totally re-vamp my witness approach and make it much more effective in the process.

These 2 questions are great for information gathering! It really can expose that some people haven't put any thought into what they profess. We really should be prepared to share the Gospel though. Greg himself has a great summary of it in another video "The Gospel in About a Minute". Romans 1:16 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile"

@danrebolledo8385
@danrebolledo8385 8 жыл бұрын
+Candice Arlebemus first of all, the body of evidence is so overwhelming large that it cannot possibly be disseminated in 20 mins. Second, consider his audience. They are at a reformed christian conference. Third, the burden of proof being on the truth claimer can be too commonly used as a catch all phrase to be dismissive of the truth being claimed. If we say that we have no responsibility to evaluate a system, and rest all the onus the proponents of that system then we are being personally irresponsible. Chatton anti Occam asserting, "Even if it is not true it is well conceived" That is most certainly true of Christianity, and is why Christianity has historically been so tantalizing. It is worthy of evaluation. Lastly, we put the non believer on the spot, because the bible puts the unbeliever on the spot. The Bible says God is good and you are not, and you know it innately. People are not converted by evidence but rather by being under the conviction of sin, and acknowledging their need for a savior. So while i totally understand what you are saying, evaluating a spiritual reality on philosophical skeptical terms will lead only to the conclusions your pre-suppositions want to be led to, regardless of the evidence.

@danrebolledo8385
@danrebolledo8385 8 жыл бұрын
Same as the modern Church. I refer you to Joshua 2. We don't have any biblical narrative dating from 20k years ago. But what we do have indicates that all people, Jew and gentile, have by saved by faith alone, through grace, though Christ alone. In the OT it is faith in a future salvific promise, the coming Christ, In the NT is faith in the revealed fulfillment of those promises, the risen Christ. While there is some debate as to how the Bible dates events, there is little to no debate to how people are saved under different covenants and time periods.
@candicearlebemus9278
@candicearlebemus9278 8 жыл бұрын
+Dan Rebolledo The OT hadn't been written 20,000 years ago. How would these people know that God would come to earth in the form of a man, and be put to death as payment for our sins? And how would they know that they need to accept this as payment for their sins in order to receive salvation?
@danrebolledo8385
@danrebolledo8385 8 жыл бұрын
Nor had the law been given even to the Jews until the stone tablets. But you and I show that we have the law written on our hearts. Romans 1 and 2 speak very aptly to that. Now your question presupposes that ancient man, in absence of divine revelation, found himself eternally condemned by merit of the date of his birth and existence in human history. Am I correct? is that fair? Romans 1:18-20, "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse." Now, you may not find that answer to be sufficient, however that is what scripture claims about itself concerning your question. That passage speaks to what is externally apparent to all humanity for all time concerning God. Paul goes on to talk about what is internally apparent in Chapter 2 of Romans. I recommend reading both chapters in their entirety. But back to your question, a comprehensive understanding of a Christological was not necessary, however it is that Gospel that secures their salvation regardless. Also, for a better understanding on how science supports biblical dating and cosmological data check out answersinGenesis.org.

Here’s a question for Christians: if God said to you “I’m going to let you be God for today” what would you do? Would you end all wars? Would you make sure not one person in the world, including children, would be hungry? would have a roof over their head? would have sanitation? Would you cure all diseases? Or would you allow wars, hunger, and disease to continue? What do you think is the moral choice?

This is not a new thought. Everyone who is human and who has thought about the existence of God usually asks why God doesn't always intervene. Christian or not we all contemplate why God is not more of an intervening superhero constantly dealing with evil and protecting people. We then either tend to think God is impotent or somehow uncaring or malevolent, evil and disconnected from his creation; a completely sadistic God. But if I was the superhero God, I'd still have to deal with the sinful evil nature of humans. In the superman action figure God scenario (which would be fun if I was God) I would literally be fully in constant damage control and people would still die in their sin. But these are important things to contemplate.

@@MichaelTheophilus906 Reasonable people look at both sides of issues to understand each side’s positions and evaluate the evidence of each side. Then one can better determine which side is closer to the “truth”. That’s why we watch. Guys like this guy preach; they don’t provide evidence and most of his claims have zero credibility. They are always preaching to the choir, they never, and I mean never, convince a non theist that theism is the truth.

Why do suppose evil should go unpunished? On what grounds do you suppose it is wrong , for evil to exist? Is is possible that it is good that evil exist, for reasons you are not informed about? Notice I didn't say that evil is good . But is it possible that greater good will come from using evil to accomplish it. Because a 4 year old doesn't understand his parents , and they don't do as he wishes , somehow they are wrong because he is not privy to their knowledge? Are they to be viewed as bad parents due to the ignorance of the 4 year old? How much more you, a mere creatue, dare to talk back to the creator of all things , who knows all things. Ps God will end all wars, no one will go hungry, in the age to come.

19:32 "I'm going to call this REVERSING the burden of proof:" -- I have no objection to the things Greg says in this section, but rather to his title of it. 'Reversing' gives the idea that the burden of proof shifts from the theist to the atheist, however Greg describes _both_ people adopting burdens of proof. So to Greg: if you want to call this strategy 'reversing', then I think you should advise Christians (1) to ask for atheists to defend their claims (which you did), _and also_ (2) to never make any claims themselves. You didn't do that, and.... it's totally against the spirit of preaching and spreading the word of God, so I don't think you ever would. This all makes this title seem very inappropriate. The title entices us with the idea that we wont have a burden of proof in the conversation anymore. However this aspect of the title is only true if we withhold asserting the truth of Christianity.

no brutha - the current flock of atheists are consumed with "scientism" - you have to break that "religion" through dialogue before you can get them to even look at Scripture - just a fact. It isn't manipulation - it is dialogue with logic AND the scientific facts which support Christianity - fine tuning, archaeology, biology, and others. Most won't even listen to evangelists, so we apologists are the "breaching squad" which breaks down the door for evangelists. I was a SEAL and now just did my Doctorate at Southern in Apologetics. Hope that explains it better. GOD Bless.

@@tf2er584 did u miss the part about planting seeds of doubt? Hes literally talking about changing peoples mindsets and changing their ideas controlling their thoughts. Do I need to provide the definition of manipulation? Manipulation: to handle, control or influence, typically in a skillful manner. Now this man is skillfully training you in this quote how to HANDLE CONTORL AND INFLUENCE others thoughts gearing towards A B or C... in this case C as in Christianity XD. That's how. That's exactly what hes teaching, a manipulation tactic. I'm not saying jesus is bad or anything lol but that's what hes teaching you. How to persuade others to think a certain way/thing.
@trevorfichtner3539
@trevorfichtner3539 4 жыл бұрын
@@sandypidgeon4343 I'd have to argue it is manipulation, this man is talking specifically about strategizing ways, hes saying ANY world view except christianity need to be addressed and debunked in order to change the mind of the person you intent to encourage to convert to christianity. I mean what part of the definition of manipulation does that NOT cover? What about the little historical fact that all the original Christian texts were burned shortly after the battle of the milviar bridge when maxentius's christian army was slaughtered by Constantine's pagan army (supposedly in the name of god. Lol what? Come on yall). Then the earliest bibles we had came during KING JAMES, during the invention of the printing press. Ans then the text and history we have shows great deals of fearmongering to control the masses by the church? I mean apilogetics? Ya we can go down this rabbit hole all day, but manipulation is pretty easy to define. If you consider that quote not to be categorized as manipulation you must be blind. Now you could argue that hes doing it without malicious intent! That he wants to mold your mindset and worldviews to save you from the devil! But hes definatly talking about intentional manipulation of others worldviews, to convert more Christian's. Manipulate: to handle, control or influence a person or situation, often skillfully Were talking about HANDLING, CONTROLING, INFLUENCING AND CHANGING the world view of others. This is the definition of manipulation. Now that's just fact. From here, we could argue if it is or isnt of malicious intent or just to save your soul as Greg will have you believe, and is the biggest reason MOST of you are watching or why most evangelists chose to do what they do, is usually for good intentions. BUT there is some bad history that really ruined the credibility of christian text, along with the fact that MONEY is a huge motive for a lot of people who dont give a fuck about others, sad but true. And lastly, I personally find it EXTRA hard to trust someone who tells everyone, to tell everyone else, not to think certain ways or things, in fact I'd go as far as to say that telling someone else what they should think or do, is a sin. That's their world. Your in your world. To tell me not to think with the contious voice GOD gave me, that which I will myself, thou art a sinner. Only I can think for me, and god gave me that right. It's the one thing no one cang change or force of me i my own will and thought. And the only other promise we are all given in life is death. But hey, that's just my OP. Think what you want for yourself. (I wont be like this asshole, telling you what to think, except to think for yourself)

@CorndogMaker
@CorndogMaker 6 жыл бұрын
The problem is that if you are making a positive claim about things that exist, you can't just get people to question what they believe. You actually need to make the case for what you think they ought to believe. I don't know why anyone would start to think that there is a "destination" at all, that they somehow exist beyond the death of their bodies. Especially when he never presents an argument or evidence for any supernatural realm or the positive belief in substance dualism. The default view isn't Christianity. This is why Columbo's tactic is used on the killer, who is giving an alibi or making a case for why someone else is the killer. Columbo doesn't need to make *his* case here, he only is refuting theirs by making them try and explain it and leading them into a reductio ad absurdum argument with Socratic method. But even Columbo can't close the deal without finally making a positive accusation at the end of the episode and giving his evidence for it.

CorndogMaker I get that, but the Bible does say that God has put eternity on man's heart, and that everyone's conscience bears witness to them that there is a God. I don't believe good arguments are what bring people to Jesus. He said that "no one can come to me unless my Father draws him." On the flipside, Colossians also tells us to regard outsiders with wisdom. We're also told to be prepared to have an answer for the faith we have. So, yes, on an intellectual level, we need to be ready to respond with truth and even with evidence, but no, evidence will not save them. Only the fear of Hell will bring them to a desperate need for Christ. After all, we're not setting out to prove we're the smartest; we're sent out to win souls to Christ. Don't underestimate God's word, nor Jesus' example in evangelism.

@seanrendall5495
@seanrendall5495 6 жыл бұрын
That would make sense if it was claiming that non believers don't exist; it doesn't claim that. They don't believe in God, but their own thoughts conflict. The only way to be a logically consistent human being is to affirm that God exists, and that He will judge us all according to His standard. Romans 2:15, if you're willing to look it up. Actually, read all of Romans. My point is that, if someone says that God does not exist, they're being internally inconsistent.

Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power, and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. 24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. 25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. 26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. 28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; 32 and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.

strange lee strange lee the universe began to exist. Everything that begans to exist, needs a cause, for something cannot come from nothing. The cause has to be spaceless because it transcended space, it has to be timeless because it transcended time. Because its timeless it is eternal. Because its spaceless it is immaterial. It must be enourmously powerfull to bring matter, energy, time and space into existence. Therefore a timeless, spaceless, immaterial, eternal, enourmously powerful Creator of the universe exists which is what we mean by God. Roger Penrose, a famous British mathematician and a close friend of Stephen Hawking, calculated the probability of the initial entropy conditions of the entropy order, the odds against such an occurrence were on the order of 10 to the power of 10th to the 123th power. It was either designed or happened by chance. It cannot have happened by chance, therefore its designed. I can demonstrate much more evidence for the fine tuning of the universe and prove even more it was designed incase you want

THE KING JAMES VERSION OF THE NEW TESTAMENT was completed in 1611 by 8 members of the church of England. there were (and still are) no original texts to translate. the oldest manuscripts we have were written hundreds of years after the last apostle died.there are over 8000 of these old manuscripts with no two of them alike. the king James translators used none of these anyway. instead, they edited previous translations to create a version the king and parliament would approve. so, 21st-century Christians believe the "Word of God" is a book edited in the 17th century from the 16th-century translations of the 8000 contradictory copies of the 4th-century scrolls that claim to be copies of lost letters written in the 1st century. that´s not faith that´s insanity.

Gee, completely on top of textual criticism. Thousands of scholars taking it seriously, but Heathen Dog's got it all under his/her belt.

Tactics.?. why do you need tactics? If you have faith then you have faith. It is either the truth for you or it is not. If the questions presented do not have any logical answers ( which they do not ) then keep to yourself to yourself.

That's nonsense. Humans acquire language competencies and thereby "reasoning" or "logical" competencies. There's nothing "individual" about logic and mathematics. "In the beginning was the Logos, and the Logos was with God, and the Logos was God." Just basic catechism classes take a few months of studying. Don't be confused by speechifying. Christians study books. Just the New Testament is 27 books written in Greek. The verbal chatting is for recruiting new Christians, not "debating."

Grow the Baptist Business, LLC. Tactics, game plans, props and costumes, to "get them saved". Whatever happened to the basics? We are all sinners and are all going to live eternally without the love of God, rather with His anger and wrath which we all deserve, unless we are called by Him, and respond by turning away from ourselves and to Him and repenting (change our choices to be in line with His) and living in a manner that glorifies God. Very disappointed that you're feeding the youth this "recipe for success" as soul winners.

That is not what the man said -- No one in all the Bible asked more questions than Jesus. He answered questions with questions. Most Christians today either don't want to engage lost people with the truth or they feel uncomfortable and don't know where to begin. This is very helpful. Try watching it again and don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

The bible tells us to know why we believe and why its true. Hence 2 Timothy 2:15 .

Why is it difficult for an adherent to Calvinism to be smart? And why do you say it is the “dumbest of ideologies” the world has ever seen so far?

@@Trivium1989 Let me add: The "being smart" - part refers only to the theological thinking of Calvinists.
