This is just something I needed. Not a student in school, never have I schooled for photography. But this take away is powerful and I appreciate the hell out of it. Thank you both.

Two or three times in my adult life I’ve been figuratively turned onto my head after seeing or hearing someone I was indifferent to due to what I consider ‘fan hype’. After listening to this interview I came away with a new opinion of Nan Goldin as a concerned and genuine artist. I thank Mr Crewdson for this. If he is reading these comments, may I make one small suggestion. Please arrange for an electronics store to deliver a decent video camera to the interviewee. Ms Goldin’s camera sound was problematic. For a hundred bucks you will get a top notch interview which will be a valuable archive record. Well worth the money spent. Thanks Mr Crewdson! Keep up the good work. Jan B

I like instagram... in fact I like pinterest better. I minimize the screen so I can see 50+ images and I scroll and i blast my music and I inhale thousands of images all at once like fireworks of experiences. I don't want to be with one work for hours. There are so many people to experience and so many things. Also, as to the political second half: At first, I hated the call the run outside save the endless tide of struggling/dying humans. I don't like when I'm pressured to save the world because I work so hard to earn the money and time to enjoy my life and it destroys me when I have to focus on the endless ill in the world, to the point where I can't do anything. I think if I can get my life to a stable place then I can help others, but I believe i have the right to help myself and enjoy myself as well, and I think expressing that enjoyment can be a way of helping others by giving them a north star. For example, as a person of color, I avoid work about the struggle of what it is to be a colored person. I believe that work is best aimed at the non-black audience as a tool to awaken them to the struggle of people of color, but I'm mixed so I don't really know. People of color may love that kind of work. For me, I use my seat at the table in advertising to create promote, in mass, images of people of color living good lives, and I believe those images hold as much value as the work that focuses on the propagation of the plight of struggling individuals as a form of mirroring as a way to help the viewer purge or feel less alone in their plight.

i dont understand why nan thiinks it's not possible to touch and connect with her art or art per se via the new generational platform - IG.come on...

it's more about user habit and art consumption tendencies of the new generation. I love instagram and I love my website but making prints and printing books i something else.
