My utmost respect for Crewdson here in how he understands that Shore is the star of this particular show, and how he lets him shine.

three years ago, whilst at Photography school, we bought Uncommon Places as a birthday gift for a friend. I had not seen anything from Stephen Shore before. There’s not that many people that influence a photographer or an artist. But I must say that I agree with his response about his influence as an author: he did influence my way of thinking about photography and compositor. Many people mention Roland Barthes as a seminal author with his distinction between the punctum and the studium. But a i think that Stephen Shore’s comments about how the photographer creates a set of relationships that didn’t exist, by the framing and the focus, by what is there and is not and how it is shown, have influenced me much more as a photographer than two years of MA -which broadened my vision and made me much more aware, careful and reflective in my practice, but didn’t change essentially my concept of the craft-.

Superb, thank you so much for publishing this. The young man's question about the frame was terrific, and I'm a little surprised that students didn't have more profound questions for this incredible artist and educator. I have leaned so much from Stephen Shore about photography.
