They do take up the similar for space, though with more flexible placement. Or you can add subs under them, it looks like they take up less space with open frame stands, maybe the imaging is better . But if you want a simple two speaker setup then floor standing is good
@crazydwarfer2 жыл бұрын
They are not full range. Almost none of the floorstanders are, with exceptions of course. These start to roll-off the bass at 100 Hz, and they are -10dB at 60Hz already. Thus, in most of the situations, a subwoofer is beneficial anyway.

@@stLtBilko, yes, if you like the sound, go for it. It is the ultimate goal, in the end, to like how it sounds :) I just mentioned to one of the commenters that 3050i's are not full-range. MAs as well. So, it depends on what music you listen to and what sound you prefer. If you listen to bass-heavy music, which includes under 40-30Hz bass, it is better to complement your floorstanders with subs. If not, it is up to you, and finally, it is up to you anyway :) Keep listening.

I wish I could get the Maggies to work for me. I got a beautiful pair of LRS from the factory when they came out. Everything people say is great about them is totally true. Huge soundstage, very natural sound, holographic. But just like a holograph, they sound thin and there's no weight to the sound. The lack of dynamics was hard for me to overcome and compared to my other speakers they just weren't that fun. For rock/pop/r&b they didn't have enough bass and for classical they didn't have enough dynamics. I tried setting up with a REL which sort of helped but could never get it totally dialed in. I sold them and bought a nice pair of Klipsch Heresy IIs (another bass light speaker but with great dynamics). I've since rearranged my room and have the Heresys and the REL dialed in and sounding great. I kind of wish I still had the LRS to try out in the new set up but then I never would have bought the Heresy (which also look better in my space).

I have a pair of 3050i speakers (replacing 30 yo Linn Keilidh)now driven by the Exposure 3510 integrated amp and they sound great particularly the base control placed 3ft from the back wall. A major improvement over the Keilidhs more detail deeper base. I want to audition the Argon 3LS floor standers with the passive radiators closer to the back wall to compare, although at £3k the comparison might not be fair. Update Jan 2023, whilst the Argon 3LS had a tighter bass and slightly clearer mids, I thought the slight improvement in sound quality wasn't worth the 5-6 times cost (£3100).

Hi Tarin, i just wanted to revisit comments made on a previous video that you two did, when you were both discussing the disparity of pricing on electronics between OLD BLIGHTY and the USA. For sometime now, the Uk government has been pushing the USA government into getting this TRADE DEAL done. Its a really difficult one to get sorted. especially with electronics. if the pound recovers to what would be a normal exchange rate of 1.25 dollars to the pound and then we import large quantities of say EMOTIVA for example. The price we could sell these for would be incredibly low. and that's why currently there are huge import taxes. There was an item from Schiit that i wanted to get that was in stock in the US, but not even available in the UK. once i added on import duty and shipping, it was just not affordable. hope that answers your question.

In my mind a good big'un beats a good little'un, although given there will be differences between bookshelf's and floor standers at the same price. As mentioned in a previous comment, they both take up the same floorspace if you are using stands for a set of Bookshelfs.. so you may as well save the money on a set of stands and get a set of floor standers and get a bigger sound. plus it seems in many cases floorstanders have higher sensitivity making them easier to drive.
@abritishaudiophile73142 жыл бұрын
There are pluses and minuses to both. Getting the right speaker for your room and setup if critical. Floorstanders do have higher sensitivity which means they will play louder for the same power but that doesn’t necessarily translate into easier to drive. The impedance swings are the biggest factor. A lot of modern floorstanders deploy more than one bass driver. Most of them should be rated at 4ohms if manufacturers were being honest. Controlling impedance swings and getting those bass drivers to start and stop promptly requires an amplifier with a stiff power supply and decent power. That can mean spending more money on the amplifier. Many quality bookshelf speakers also have drivers with large impedance swings as the priority is to get linearity and low distortion from the drivers rather than present a benign load. As always, the devil is in the detail 😊

If people I know are anything to go by 'BOOM BOOM' is one of the biggest reasons many people don't even consider proper speakers and whilst it's clearly a huge consideration it shouldn't be a barrier.

I would say I like the segments with the both of you interacting. However, I feel the need to get after you, Tatum, you let the other guy do all the talking. In my opinion, the offering might be better tevieeed if you interviewed each other; rather than you interviewing him exclusively. Put another way, I tune in to your channel to hear what YOU think, I don’t know this other guy, even what his name is, although I’ve listened to several of these segments. Not saying he doesn’t contribute to the content, it’s just that I don’t trust him like I trust you; I’m only listening to him because you’re listening to him. Because you trust him, by extrusion, I’ll listen to him, and I learn something. But I think tweaking the format to where you each present and respond to each other would be more entertaining, without letting the other fellow dominate the discussion (which is what he is currently doing). So set it up at the beginning; ‘Hello, I’m Tarun, I’m going to be talking about the Warfedale, and we’ll here hear what guy X has to say; Guy X will present on Magnepan LRS+ and I will give my response, edit as needed with an eye on the clock so that each presenter and responder has equal time. If one or the other goes over time, the other guy can call him on it. At the end, it’s not a competition, it’s a dialog, which I like, but you just come off a bit passive (and he come off aggressive) in the current format. I say all this while acknowledging it it hard to compete with his enthusiasm.

@@abritishaudiophile7314 if you are interested i can ship you from Belgium Tekton Lore 😉 ... Anyway, used ones are always easier to find than new ones. Also, i would love to hear and to see your review about Diapason speakers like Karis, Astera, Adamantes, ... I think those speakers are incredible for the money.

Has anyone noticed or is just me? Why in gods name with so many different options available Tarun is caught up with the same equipment over and over…I am tired of Exposure and the Proacs ,the same Dacs etc

Exposure and ProAc are part of my reference system. I use them to compare with other equipment I review to provide consistency and an established benchmark 😊

I like the interviews with Ian but if you ask his opinion, you had better pack a lunch.

@@abritishaudiophile7314 I used to work for a guy who had a wive who was a nice woman however she was never able to discriminate between talking and actually saying something. She had no concept of a conversation, she was looking for an audience and would home in on you and start talking and by the time she got to the grandkids you wanted to put your brains on the wall. We coined a name for it. "The Captive Monologue".

Fan of your channel but these conversations are not my favorite content. There is so much equipment these days that you only can cover a tiny fraction. Maybe if you do 89 parts 😅
@abritishaudiophile73142 жыл бұрын
I get that. For me, it makes a nice change from a review. We can only cover what we have heard but hopefully it is a useful guide for people to get a sense of our experiences 😊

Without sounding too much of them and us, the equipment made Stateside tend to voiced differently to Europe/UK. So when a US citizen hears British-built product, they tend to view it differently.

ADCOM means “ add commission” . Guy that started the company was a sales rep for audio companies and he wanted more commissions. So he named it ADCOM
