I knew your grandma at VALCO, Tema when I was posted there in 1985-1987 for my National Service. She was the Chief Nurse, then. She is a kind hearted and dedicated nurse. I remember her for giving me "ofam" to eat when I told her I was hungry while going to see the doctor at the VALCO Hospital. My greetings to her. Respect!

I am 79, and I love you and your grandmother. Thank you for sharing. A little about me. I have been coming to Mexico, mainly Acapulco since 1962. I do speak Spanish as a second language. I moved permanently to Queretaro, Mexico on 11-2-2021 at 79 . I moved because of the deadly crimes and the rents, utilities etc. taking almost all of my retirement income. It is safer, beautiful and cleaner here, and $850 per month less expensive. There is not any shortage or limits on food, and I use home delivery, as I did in the USA . I use Amazon-Mexico to order the foods, that i miss from the USA, and are not sold here. Grits, Louisiana hot sauce, Hormel Beef tamales, Libby's Corn Beef hash, Red chili flakes, and Campbell's chicken noodle soup.. Pork is all that I do not eat, and I cook 99% of my food. Butterball has the best turkey bacon! The earthquakes were the deal breakers for Acapulco, but I will always love her. Grilled Red Snapper and Pollo Felez are my favorite foods, that I order for take out. My apartment has a fantastic view of all of Queretaro, all utilities and WiFi, maid service, and 100% furnished with everything, and a beloved king size bed, like at home. I am working on my temp retirement visa, since I did get 180 days, but at this age, I do not want to do visa runs, and never know how many days I will get. It is better, if you can to get the temp retirement visa. God bless the world,and please behave. Hands are for helping and not hurting. Put a d before anger, and you get deadly danger. Do not argue! No one can ride your back, unless you bend over. Only the strong survives. Treat everyone, the way you want to be treated. Karma never loses an address, and we will reap what we have sown. DO THE RIGHT THING ALWAYS!

Hi hi Jasmine. I very much enjoyed your interview with your grandmother. I hope she knows how blessed she is to still be in her right mind. There's such an epidemic of Alzheimer's and Dementia in the United States. I don't know if it's like that in other countries. I take care of my 83 year-old mom who has Alzheimer's. How I wish that she was still in her right mind because she is so well loved by so many people. She is a mom, a grandmother, great-grandmother and also a great great grandmother but she doesn't even know it anymore. I'm so glad that you still have your grandmother with you and that you can have the kind of conversations that you shared. I hope to see more of your grandmother to be honest. I'd like you to pick her brain about so many things. We need the wisdom of the aged. Thank you for sharing your grandmother with the world.

Fortunately, alzheimers or dementia is not too common in Africa tho! My mom lived to 97, a bit slower on her feet, but sharp as a tack.. it was so weird. We called her Benjamin button, becks she aged almost backwards. She just went to bed and didnt wake up for her 6am morning tea..that's it! We, unfortunately living in the western world should be that lucky, right! Dementia was so rare when I was growing up in Ghana,,,but now, I think the numbers are growing a little bit. We attribute it to environmental developments, radiation everywhere, and unfortunately we have allowed our agricultural fields to be polluted with chemicals too. Our farmers have been influenced.. The plants are getting doctored with chemicals etc. Even cancer, when I was growing up in Ghana, we never heard of cancer. I only heard of it because I come from a heavily medical family, mostly trained overseas and came back home to practice, but the ones trained in Ghana, never even mentioned it. If it existed, we never heard of it, but now, a few numbers starting to come up, and the people are still not well "versed" with it! Isnt this interesting? I live in New York now, and boy do I know these two diseases well. I just finished chemotherapy and radiation, tho cancer has never happened in the family, none of my family members back home, and I take care of the elderly here, so I KNOW the damn dementia too well! I detest it for what it does to perfectly decent people, and their families! I call it the silent thief, or the common, "long goodbye!" I just lost one of my favourite patients ever, last year. Had him for 4 yrs, and watched his mind steal his vocabulary, for someone who loved to talk and sing, a very talented stage performer. Song and dance man, so go figure! We danced a lot in the beginning, but gradually he just wanted to just sit and not to be bothered much. We would sing aloud to the radio when we drive, with everyone waving at us. We would just break into dance together in the supermarket, to thunderous applause, until he didnt care anymore!;He made me cry a lot, I'm just so sorry about your mom, sis! Just take it ine day at a time, and try to meet her wherever she is! Not easy! God be with u and the family. Hope he gives u strength each day!
