The marking to match up the crosshatch seemed like a much more messy way to go about it. Glad I didn't see this video when I was starting out. You don't mention if you change your tension, what speed, stitch length when you did this couching.. Can you please advise ?

Are you using the BERNINA Q Series? I have never had this issue. Perhaps your local BERNINA dealer for sales and service should have a look at it.
