Saito started off strong by going for inside positions against riner, which allowed him to threaten with tai o toshi and uchi mata. Then later riner went for the russian grip to threaten the sumi gaeshi. Saito did not have a good answer. Forcing Saito back into traditional kenka yotsu. Saito attacked with uchi mata, which Riner knew would come and countered it perfectly. Saito needs some good planning to beat Riner

You are right he's very confident.

Saito is getting better and better!!! Hopefully, he’ll catch Riner at the Olympic!

Rinner is taller, faster and stronger then everybody else. Leg grab must go back
@Ritzourne7 ай бұрын
yep, but as a tall guy (2m) leg grab was one of my favourite.

Actually Teddy is taller than Saito,it’s not good to do Uchimata and most likely Teddy could counter him easily at the end🤷🏻

Shorter people can make uchi mata work, look at Aaron Wolf and Shohei Ono. The grips and the timing need to be correct
In my opinion he is too heavy and less mobile compared to guys like Tasoev, Bashaev, Krpalek, Tushishvili (if he is on form) and has less power than Riner. He has a sound technique like all Japaneses but he should shed a bit of weight and gain a bit of power. I wish him all the best for Paris 2024

You are right. Poor power for his weight. He need to chsnge his judo too. Very predictable.
@sushinfudoshin89918 ай бұрын
To beat Riner, you need at least the same amount of power and athletism. Tushishvili was close but he is not that guy, Yusupov, Tasoev have much better chances
@samil56018 ай бұрын
I don't think you can beat Riner by trying to match his strengths. The way would be to be faster and more technical than him, but can't see Saito achieving either of those. At this stage I wouldn't rate Saito as a medal contender, let alone potential winner.
He doesn't have the athletism nor the technique to beat Riner. The japanese team tried two fighters with different profiles to beat Riner, Shishinoe and Kageura, both failed. Saito is not that guy.
