"Legacy is to inspire others to go beyond what we did " I hear wisdom, humility, longevity, honoring the past and the future of hip hop. Absolutely iconic. This is the spirit of hip hop. Not the "I'm better than you culture. It's giving "we are better together and let's see how far we can go together." I love it. ❤ It's everything I love about hip hop culture. We rise together when we build together. Much honor and congratulations to A Tribe Called Quest.

It goes Pete Rock, Premier, Large Pro, RZA, Q-Tip, etc… no question he’s in there with the best East Coast producers of that late/post-golden era (89-94)-arguably the best era. It’s cool to see that Tribe impacted so many people the same way they impacted me. I feel so lucky to have grown up during the time that I did. The Low End Theory absolutely defined my middle school years. It’s the first album that I loved so much that I listened to it over and over again and dissected it from beginning to end. And I still remember the day I got home from school and put on Midnight Marauders for the first time and just about lost my mind I was so pumped, lol. Thank you Tribe for being a defining part of my youth and making me love hip hop in its most honest, purest form.

I was one of those kids growing up in New York City that had been surrounded by all kinds of influences from the many different members of my family,to every community I was living in by moving to different neighborhoods and boroughs, reading tons of books and listening to all kinds of music. Growing up with mixed ethnic heritage at face value I was seen and categorized as a black male because of the appearance of my skin color but having been raised with the knowledge of my ancestors I never found anyone who had mixed heritage like me until I moved to The Bronx. I was one of those eclectic kids, braids in my hair, wearing indigenous jewelry due to my tribal heritage, dressing differently than others and always in my own universe and never looking for a place to fit in because I was just being myself,I knew the drug dealers, the street gangs, the criminals and my ability to open up their minds made them accept me. When ATCQ came out it was like looking in a mirror and seeing people like me..that whole movement of De La,Jungle Brothers..people who were just being themselves gave me the confidence to break away from that stereotype of a ghetto black boy that was told he wouldn’t live to make it past 18 years old..well I’m 52 this December Tribe being inducted is well deserved and beyond overdue..they contributed to so much influence on letting us “weird kids” be just exactly who we are meant to be.

watching this got me a little teary-eyed. the first Tribe album i ever got, once i was able to make my own money, was Beats Rhymes and Life on cassette. Stressed out had me in such a chokehold when i first heard it. I became an instant fan. of course, as i got older, I discovered earlier material and then Q-tip's solo stuff and his features and it's been no looking back since. What a time to be alive. I'm so happy that they were inducted, along with many of the other favorites that also were inducted as well. So many of us that laid the foundation and worked tirelessly in our craft. Chaka should've been in yearssssssss ago.
