This is a short bit of audio verite from the Beatles' Let It Be sessions, 25th January 1969. Glyn Johns asks George if he'd like to hear Led Zeppelin's debut album. George is practising "Window Window". Of some historical interest.
Taken from the "Get Back Camera B Rolls Volumes 1" - Disc 1 - "1 Roll 1068B Slate 345 - For You Blue" about 4 minutes in. Not much else there.
Some of the information/subtitles, herein thanks to the comments.

Glyn Johns from "Sound Man:" So I took my acetate to a production meeting and played it to Mick, suggesting that I felt that the band was going to be huge and therefore we should have them on the show as it would be an enormous coup. My suggestion fell on deaf ears, as Mick did not get it at all. A couple of months later I dragged George Harrison to Olympic on the way home from a Beatles session and played him the master tape with the same result, he didn’t get it either. I found this slightly disconcerting as I could not understand why they did not get what was so exciting to me. Prior to this I had always felt that we all shared pretty much the same taste in music. Jimmy and John Paul Jones were from the same era with the same influences and yet Mick and George openly disliked what they had done, seeing no value in it at all. In any event, they were perfectly entitled to their opinion, and fortunately a large portion of the record-buying population disagreed with them.

Led Zeppelin was creating hard rock and metal so maybe they just didn’t get it yet? Clearly. Also, Mick and George’s egos wouldn’t allow them any other reaction I suppose. I mean just watch George yawning while Paul creates Get Back right in front of him.

@@yanshane I don't think George yawning while Paul comes up with an idea is an ego thing, the guy was probably just used to it. Also take into account that they spent a lot of time together over the years and a lot of hours in those rehearsals, maybe he'd just woken up or smth.

But guys, Led Zeppelin (who I love) never were and never became "popular music" . Ask a random stranger of any race, age, sex or background to name some Rolling Stones or Beatles songs and they easily give you between a half dozen and a dozen after a bit of a think - but the average person would be hard pressed to even name "Stairway to Heaven" as a Zep tune. Mick and George's ears were tuned to songs that would be hits or something totally esoteric like Indian music ..Zep fell in the middle somewhere (and still do)

The funny thing is George was about the same age as Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones. I think Bonham was only 20 when Zeppelin began. Zeppelin I came out in January '69, and George was 25 in January '69. George was the "Baby Beatle" as he was more than 2 years younger than John and Ringo, and a year younger than Paul. George was only 15 in 1958 when he joined The Beatles, then called The Quarrymen. It's crazy that Led Zeppelin began 10 years later in 1968, and George was virtually the same age as Jones and Page. George had 10 years under his belt as Zeppelin was just starting. Crazy.

Page was playing in a recording band, The Crusaders, in 1962. Simple-minded pop tunes, like the Beatles and Cliff Richard, except Page didn't hit it big enough to stick with just one successful, paying pop format. "Looking for work" is why he ended up with Korner and the Yardbirds.

Regarding plagiarizing, you make the mistake that many people make. You hear a piece of music and it sounds like or even matches another piece of music in certain ways and you're convinced that it couldn't be more obvious that plagiarizing took place. You're convinced that it was copied and that just isn't necessarily that case. It has to be shown and proven that the artist intentionally copied a piece of music. As for specific chord progressions, there are so many progressions in such a wide variety of musical styles... especially in popular music, that are used over and over that if it were a simple case of showing that there was a match, there would be so many artists who would be called plagiarists that a large portion of popular music simply would not exist any more. The same holds true for musical phrases and melodies. The fact is that there may be particular elements of a musical composition that are the same in two different compositions and still not have been copied. Song structure and musical composition has a certain "logic" to it that almost guarantees that certain phrases and chord progressions are used more than others. An analogy would be in the use of spoken and written language. There are certain language patterns and "turns of phrase" that we tend to use often. A particular use of certain ways of stringing together words tends to be more comfortable and sound more correct than others. If you were composing a letter or writing a book it would be inevitable that many of these would turn up in your writing and though you may find them used in writings by other authors previously published that does NOT mean that they were plagiarized. The exact same thing holds true in musical composition so even though you may hear parts of a song that are identical with another, that does NOT mean it was plagiarized and that is why INTENT is such an important part of proving if plagiarism actually took place. Even when an artist says that they "stole" something from another artist that is STILL not enough. The whole composition, in its entirety, is most often a big deciding factor in making that determination.

Basically you're correct, mate PLUS I like the way you put it. What these halfwits fail to see is that there's nothing new under the sun and all art is derivative! Most of the people who get on KZbin are of average intelligence and are very poorly educated. They confuse assumptions with facts and don't know how to use logic when reasoning. When making an argument they say, "Nothing could be more obvious" without seeing that THAT is not an argument using reason. With music, they hear two different compositions with parts or sections that are similar or even identical and say "Aha, THAT"S plagiarism" and cannot fathom that it's not necessarily true. "Zeppelin took a musical theme and blasted it it into another stratosphere." The perfect way to put it. You're right mate!

In their first year, Zep did a lot of covers but they were paying Willie Dixon the whole time, he's credited with 1/4 of their first album. The Babe I'm gonna leave was an honest mistake - they thought it was traditional, and so did Joan Baez. They then invested willingly on Dixon and Howlin Wolf long before the CD age, the result being that nobody has payed more British money into Chicago blues than Led Zeppelin. So what's Page guilty of, wanting to own his own riffs?? Really, what's he guilty of? Paying his bills better than any British musician before him or after him? These plagiarism claims are made by internet trolls who just say this crap and disappear. Led Zep and Bob Dylan are the two most studied bands in history. In the end , they did the right things, and everyone is satisfied but for some fools on the internet.

Now for some Beatles-Zeppelin connection: John Paul Jones did play for McCartney decades later at the Give My Regards to Broad Street. "We were putting together The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus just as the album was finished. So I took my acetate to a production meeting and played it to Mick, suggesting that I felt that the band was going to be huge and therefore we should have them on the show as it would be an enormous coup. In any event, they were perfectly entitled to their opinion, and fortunately a large portion of the record-buying population disagreed with them." Johns, Glyn. The John Paul Jones session referred to in the clip was actually a Paul Jones (Manfred Mann) session for And the Sun Will Shine and The Dog Presides. As an aside, And the Sun Will Shine is a cover of an early unreleased BeeGees song. The session took place in February, 1968, right before The Beatles left for India. McCartney plays drums on both tracks. His drumming on The Dog Presides is particularly impressive. Also playing on the session were Jeff Beck, Nicky Hopkins, and Paul Samwell Smith. Peter Asher produced the session.

@@diffbreak2366 i don't think so. Jimmy composed more songs than the entire Beatles catalog and he had no "McCartney" to help him. He also went from bluegrass to jazz and instrumental to heavy metal. And I'm not even talking about his soloing. Which is only matched perhaps by Hendrix and Beck or May. The Beatles as a "supergroup" from the early 60's were superseded by Zeppelin, which was the "ultimate super group" in the late 60's. However, as George pointed out, not talking about romance didn't do well with ladies, so the Zeppelin-mania was mainly hard rock dudes and wild girls, meanwhile the Beatles-mania was mainly girls. It’s amazing that something on KZbin for 10 years can suddenly appear in my listing. This is so cool because it shows how George and the others were interested in other important musicians.

Lol. I love how the Beatles are all matter-of-factly like "Oh, Jimmy Page? Led Zepplin? How about that.". ^^

The talent in the UK at the time was amazing. George knew many Jimmys, including Jimmy Page as a session musician who had played with The Yardbirds. That's why he asked "Jimmy PAGE?"

Jimmy Page (Little Jimmy) and Jim Sullivan (Big Jim) were two of the most sought-after session guitarists in England at the time.

In case anyone doesn't know, George became a big fan of Led Zeppelin but one day approached Jimmy with one criticism; They don't have enough/any ballads. Because of that statement, Jimmy sat down one day and wrote The Rain Song (released on Houses Of The Holy, 1973). The first two chords are the same as The Beatles' song Something as a tribute of sorts to George.

It’s great to see the video and audio from Get Back and to also see something about Led Zepplin be talked about amongst the Beatles

Is he the one who was in The Yardbirds? Yeah... back at a time when that was all you could publicly recognize Jimmy Page preforming on... the way George says it so casually, it's really intriguing to think there was a time when Led Zeppelin really were not fully well-known.

I like the comment about John Paul Jones being very young. “He’s 24.” George was what? About 26 at the time?

I recognise the guy telling George about them from new film get back. I think it is Glyn Johns - recording engineer. This was when they were making let it be album. Glyn worked on Led Zeppelin’s the first album
