During my Covid-19 stay at home I ran across this series, kind of reminds me of the old stock car days. Most everyone was using truck trailing arms on Chevelle frames. This frame setup would have made for a terrific roundie pounder, then.

Nice work. Think you might have to perhaps add a doubler plate or even box the rails over the axle? Might be worrying about nothing but sure does look a bit too thin in the area or the notches? Had to brace a truck that came in for work,it was twisting its frame. All the torque goes through it to those big tyres! The fix was to box the rails at half depth with 5/16" plates!. Half depth was a compromise that worked well, as strong as boxing but retained most of the look of open rails. Once painted it did not show. The doubles tapered at the ends back to the stock open rails.

Andrew Wilson It looks like still will be alot stress in that area over the tube fish plating is a good option on inside of the frame .

I somewhat agree on boxing, but that is one big frame reinforcement they use in the QA1 kit, looks to be 1/4 inch and almost 2 ft long, the way it all ties in i doubt it would flex unless Lucky really Hoon's this thing.. oh wait a minute maybe we should be talking about roll cages and frame ties ....with lucky...lol ...nice work

You going to box in that rear section? Even with welding that bracket across the top, there's a hell of a lot of meat missing back there. Isn't it always a little better to overbuild it than to have to go back and fix it later?

What did you not like about the Cpp? I was looking at either the qa1 or cpp for my 71. Qa1 is a bit more pricey but looks like a better product to me overall. As they say buy once cry once

I wish this video wasn’t so old already but here it goes. I am building up a 1965 Chevy C10. I’m at the point now where I need to install the rear swaybar. I opted out for a 9 inch Ford rear end from Moser. Where the bushings and the U-bolt need to attach to the axle, the center section overlaps that space so the U-bolt are not big enough. Maybe the pumpkins too big as well? I need to solve this issue, I would love to know if anybody else has experience with this, and what is the workaround?

A lot of help from your videos getting ready to pull the trigger on this suspension but am a little worried that my rear end has been narrowed to fit 20x12 and not sure if that's gonna be a issue being that the coil overs sit on the outside the reason why I like this kit

Where did you source the fuel tank? Have you ever remote mounted a battery. I am using a 496 Stroker and I would like to remote mount the oil filter to a place without having to let oil run down my arm. A canister filter with a drain spigot on the steel cup that holds the canister filter

So did you have to shave the axle down for the shoe ..I took my rear end out of a 1994 GMC suburban it’s still a 3” axle 10 bolt will the u bolt be big enough my truck 1983 c10
@CharleyGeorge6 жыл бұрын
Hey Lucky, I saw the suspension on the truck. It is sick as hell and huge congrats. But I wanted to mention one thing, that massive amount of missing back frame at the cut outs at the bump stops is way too much. I know you are going to lay down the power to this thing and do some burn outs. I would surely do the same but I think it is way too weak to leave alone and just weld the top of that bracket to the frame. I suggest inserting a replacement piece into the missing area and welding it in or at least sandwich it with another stock plate joined at the same locations as the bracket you put on from the kit.
@CharleyGeorge6 жыл бұрын
Hey one more thought. The reason why I suggested to add additional meat or sandwich the bracket is because I would be afraid of the frame to twist in that area. It is a super high stress place with tone of different forces on it. these forces could be acting all at once, like of you are going to to burn out donuts in it. Your frame will have the stress from pulling and pushing of the spinning tires plus the additional twist of the side to side action of the donuts. I hope all that makes sense.

I just stumbled onto and subscribed. I'm building a 70 C10 swb at home. The chassis is just about completed, but then I discovered the QA1 coil over kits today. when looking at Jegs and other online retailers these kick came with options for different spring rates. Do you have any recommendations for the front and rear? How much of a drop can be achieved with these kits? Currently, I'm 3.5 in the front, using CPP 1" coils and their 2.5" drop spindles. 5" drop in the rear, using CPP coils as well.

What did you use for a pinion angle? I believe truck arms are 0. Any clearance issue with the fuel lines on top of the tank? Nice job.
@shaunpeirce86516 жыл бұрын
Question, are you putting turn downs on the exhaust? Or is it just going straight out the mufflers into the petrol tank? With it going straight out the mufflers i thought it would warm up the tank/petrol? Also keep the videos coming, great stuff.

That suspension is really sweet. Are you gonna still run the exhaust the way they are? I mean, it looks like you have enough room to run the pipes in front of the rear tires as long as the suspension doesn't hit the exhaust. I saw your other videos. Your truck is badass!

How does the panhard bar attach to that leaf spring axle? My C10 was cursed with factory leaf springs. I'm going to convert it... one of these days...
@TheCanadianBubba6 жыл бұрын
Most leaf setups do not use the panhard, except for maybe very high lift. You can see the frame ends at a few different places in the video, two bar setup is a little different than stock, as the factory only did a single bar.
@IOwnCalculus6 жыл бұрын
Right, that's my point. My leaf axle doesn't have an attachment for the panhard bar, but as far as I've seen factory trailing arm / coil trucks do have an attachment point for it on the axle.

Trucks that are as low as a GT40 look stupid! They’re trucks! if they are so low you can’t use them as a truck, and if you can’t use it as designed why have a truck? Cars look cool lowered but trucks that scrape their bellies look ridiculous they need to look like they can clear a speed bump by at least two inches any lower than that and you have a clown car.
