John, after watching your video on the Exodus earlier this year I decided to use it this season. It’s a great performer and couldn’t be happier with the results. It blew through both front shoulders (no bone) and stuck in the dirt. Deer ran 40 yards and dropped, huge holes on both sides. Keep up the good work.

Another great video! I have both Exodus models and I have only tested the flight. One disadvantage of being a broadhead junkie is that you can only shoot so many during a season. The performance of this head in the cinder block is phenomenal! I know we don’t hunt blocks and steel but a lot of us know that rocks just seem to be magnets after a pass through. For anyone trying to get multiple uses out of a single head, this one looks like a true winner.

@@MikeSmith-fq5dv I use a few different heads. I like afflictor, and sevr for my expandables. I shot magnus and annihilators. I'm a big fan of single bevel heads. I own a pack of bishop broadheads. I bought them before they had to double and triple there prices. At one time you could by bishops for 140 bucks now the are over 300 I think.. awesome heads, but I'm not able or willing to pay that much for them. Not when there is a thousand other heads out there. I'd like to try tuff heads out. Even those are a little pricey. When you can buy a pack of magnus for 40 to 50 bucks or a pack of afflictor hybrids for 50 bucks it's really hard to want to spend more than 50 60 bucks on a pack of broadheads. These exodus are amazing heads. I like a balanced arrow between 450 and 500 grains they fly and hit hard. What about you? What are you looking at and what have you shot
@MikeSmith-fq5dv3 жыл бұрын
@@MikeyWoomer WHAT??? $300 For broadheads? I didn't know that was a thing. I couldn't imagine justifying paying $300 for broadheads, bow hunting is already expensive enough. For that price it better have GPS tracking or some other amazing feature lol. I've mostly been using Muzzy MX3 heads. For the most part they've performed well for me. I shot 1 elk that I never recovered which was my fault because the shot was a little high. It was one of the biggest bull elk I've ever seen in the wild and I was shaking and nervous/anxious. So the next elk season I tried a rage 2 blade with a 2 inch+ cut. I made a good shot but didn't get a pass through. I wasn't very impressed to be honest. Next elk season I tried the toxic broadhead. It was their first year on the market. Same thing I made a good shot no pass through. It had a decent blood trail but nothing special. I decided to switch back to the Muzzy's the past couple years but didn't get anything. I needed to get more heads this year and after a little research I decided to give these QAD Exodus heads a try. I haven't been able to use them yet but I'm anxiously waiting.

Thanks for pointing out that might be considered barbed for a Broadhead for some states. South Dakota is one of them that does not allow barbed for hunting, but what South Dakota calls an Illegal barbed and what is actual barbed might be slightly different things for some cases like the head having the non forward part of the blades cut to a beveled blade on either or both sides would count as a barb for some reason even if it is not a true barb but this quad Exodus is more the standard part of the barbed rules, yes I know there is a similar arrow from Exodus that would work.

@LuskArcheryAdventures3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing that Michael. If the heads are spinning well, then it's going to be a tuning issue. Some heads reveal those slight imperfections more than others. The best way to test that is to shoot a bare shaft. If you're getting the same point of impact and same shaft entrance angle with your fletched shafts and bare shafts at 10 or 20 yds, then almost any broadhead will fly well. If not, then some heads may and some may not. Having higher FOC and using helical vanes helps create a bit more forgiveness as well. Good luck .

@LuskArcheryAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question, Jerry. The head will make a great hole--1.25" in diameter and will penetrate very well and retain its edge well. The rest is up to you, in shot placement--and that's what affects the blood trails and how far they go after they're hit. It makes a bigger hole, retains its edge, & penetrates better than most fixed blade heads on the market--so that stacks the odds in your favor. Have you ever watched my vid on Broadheads & Bloodtrails? It might help explain this a bit.

The Exodus is MUCH stronger in every way--stronger ferrule and stronger blades. I noticed my STs blades were often nicked up after being shot, but that almost never happened with the Exodus blades. I also had the ferrule break off twice with the ST, once on a bear. But I've never had that happen with an Exodus. The STs are not bad...but they're just not as durable as the Exodus.

I have the full blade version. Other than long distance flight do you suspect the full blade to perform the same? I can't wait to try these out on game. I think I'm going to like the results. Thank you for reviewing these with your updated tests.
@LuskArcheryAdventures3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the Full performs the same in every other way. I saw some reports, years ago, of the Full blades bending back into the shaft on very hard impacts to the blades...but I've never seen that personally. Strange things happen to every broadhead, so I wouldn't worry about it.
@lstownley3 жыл бұрын
John, Have you ever tested the penetration (gel and cardboard) of the QAD Exodus Swept vs Full? I would theorize that the Swept version would slightly out perform the Full because of the additional surface area of the blades. Would be nice to see that test though. Also, one other question. Could you also start stating the speed and arrow weight of your setup used in your penetration testing? (thinking that the 460gr Bishop is just for the concrete test)
@LuskArcheryAdventures3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the questions. I have tested both and the Swept is slightly more forgiving in flight and slightly better in penetration in the mediums I use just because they have less surface area, so less surface friction. They are equally durable. I use 460 gr Bishop FOC King arrows for every test except the concrete. That's the slightly heavier FAD Eliminator--I think it's about 700 grs. My Bowtech SR6 is at 72 lbs, and 27" draw and on the Comfort setting. Speed is 262 fps

I'm from South Africa. Thanks for the insightful videos. Your opinion on the QAD exodus vs Grim Reaper Hades? I'm shooting Bowtech Reign 7, 70lbs, 31" draw. 510gr arrows
@LuskArcheryAdventures3 жыл бұрын
They're both great heads, but there's no comparison in durability--the Exodus is much more durable--blades are thicker and hold their edge much better. Ferrule is stronger as well.

In your opinion is there any merit to an animal having a harder time removing the swept over the full blade Exodus in a non lethal hit? Also I’m shooting a 31” 460 grain arrow including the head out of a 52 pound compound bow, I’d like to switch heads and I’m leaning towards the Exodus or the Iron Will V Series, whichever I choose will be either in 100 or 125 grain. I hunt primarily deer & elk, is there one head and grain size you would choose over the other when factoring in my set up?
@LuskArcheryAdventures2 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. I don't think it makes a significant difference...but the Swept are considered "barbed" in some states and are illegal for that reason. When I shoot them into a target, the Swept and the Full pull out just as easily. Re a head, I prefer 125 gr, to give a bit more FOC and some heads put more "beef" into the head to make that weight, making them slightly more durable. I've taken a lot of animals with both the Exodus & the Iron Will. I really like them both. My favorite Iron Will is the Single Bevel with Bleeders. For the price, hard to beat the Exodus, but if price isn't an issue, hard to beat the Iron Will.

Hi John, I am looking into getting the QAD Exodus. Which one would you recommend? Ron Kulas demonstrated sharpening the full version, outstanding!! But in your test it is the swept version....I will hunt anything from medium size to large game. May thanks in advance:)
@LuskArcheryAdventures3 жыл бұрын
Both are excellent. But the Swept is every bit as strong and also slightly more forgiving in flight.
@zekeshow37693 жыл бұрын
With the right arrow set up & collar along with a strong shooting compound, do you think their would be issues with a whitetail scapula pass through?
@LuskArcheryAdventures3 жыл бұрын
Like any head, it would depend on where you hit it. A whitetail scapula is super thin and easy to poke thru in some areas, but the base at the joint can be impossible for any head...depending on the size of the deer of course. But the Exodus would be an excellent choice for cutting thru heavy bone.
@dtgoutdoors91072 жыл бұрын
What would you suggest comparing the G5 striker, to the exodus? Ive always shot the striker. For 8 plus years anyway. And had zero issues. Its I believe a 150 on the sharpness scale as well and quite durable
@LuskArcheryAdventures2 жыл бұрын
The Striker is a good head for sure. I have a video Broadhead Battle between the Striker and the Exodus...so you can see the direct comparison. Exodus are more durable, so they get the nod for sure. But Strikers can certainly get the job done.

i currently use a 200gr single bevel for elk, do you think it would be worth the loss of weight and FOC to go to the 125gr exodus? OR i guess i could add a little weight to the insert...
@LuskArcheryAdventures2 жыл бұрын
It depends on your bow/arrow set up...like your total FOC, Spine, Arrow Weight & Draw Length, and shot distance. Personally, I prefer a bigger hole than most 2 blade single bevel give me.

They are plenty sharp out of the package. I do touch them up after I shoot them though. No point in trying to get them sharper than out of the package; sharper can mean "thinner" and weaker as well.

Are these legal in Massachusetts . They are not advertised as being a barbed and are somewhat different than a traditional Barbed head?

I’m in such an internal debate between this broadhead and the black horney ser razer, I’ve had a bumpy start getting into archery hunting and I’ve just struggled getting pass throughs, I have since bought a new bow and am looking to switch broadheads, so in all of your testing out of those two which would you recommend? Or is there a broadhead that you find is even better?
@LuskArcheryAdventures3 жыл бұрын
They are both fantastic heads. When it comes to durability, both are even very durable--but the Exodus is much more durable in a hard impact and the blades are a bit more durable as well. Hard to be the Exodus for an all round head. There are so many factors in broadhead selection, and everything is a tradeoff--flight, penetration, durability, cut size, etc. Exodus is one of the very best all round heads though. I'd also say Tooth of the Arrow is similar, but it's a one piece construction, so the blades are not replaceable...both a pro and a con, in some ways.
