QAD UltraRest: Hunter vs. LD vs. HDX

To help us out with our 2017 Flagship Hunting Bow Project, Quality Archery Designs was kind enough to send over some Ultra rests for each of our bows.
QAD actually makes four different Ultra rest options and we've got three of them - the UltraRest Hunter, UltraRest LD and UltraRest HDX. Each of these comes at a different price point and with different features.
Installation for any UltraRest is exactly the same. There are lots of videos out there showing you how it's done and QAD includes a DVD and a sheet with full instructions. Using the EZ-clamp makes things really easy and basically foolproof, but you can always forgo that and serve the d-loop material into your cable if you are so inclined. I set up all six of our test bows with QAD UltraRests in a single afternoon with no issues.

I have a Mathews Reezen 7.0 and an HDX. I cant allign my arrow with the berger button hole without the rest slapping the riser. any ideas?

My qad hunter is nothing but trouble. It came with my pse bow. Always touched fletching. I tuned everything played with tie point up down 1 millimeter at a time. Still keeps touching. Timing marks are perfect each time they were supposed to be the adjusted both ways. Still kept touching. I believe it maybe bouncing. Ended up having to raise knock point it was the only solution so now I have a slightly untuned bow due to a lousy arrow rest. I tried a cheap 20 dllr fallaway rest from trophy taker I think and it had no problem clearing the fletching. But I had to give that rest back to my bro. So sucks. I will not buy or recommend to any of my friends or coworkers. To much trouble. Sorry to rant.

I had the same exact problem with the launcher arm bouncing up and contacting the vanes of the arrow, I upgraded to the Qad ultra rest Ld

I have the QAD Hunter on my mission Mathew bow. I noticed it has been touching my veins. I believe its jumping up some. So now I orders the LD model.

Yep. I got the hdx. Hate it. Can't group with it. Those little $10 brush type rests worked WAY better.

@@jasonalgier2216 Yup, the hunter which came with my Hoyt Torrex does the same thing, vane contact no matter what and it is indeed the launcher bouncing back. There is a video of the hunter in slow motion bouncing up and hitting the vanes.

Are these rests specifically for hunting or do they perform well at field/target disciplines?

I typically use a blade rest for target/field, but these would work just fine. They also allow you to use a much more aggressive helical on the fletchings (or even a four-fletch), which is tough to pull off with a blade rest.

Hi Lucas. Thank you for your review. Which blade rest do you recommend for target/field? I'm somewhat on a budget and I'm currently shooting with a Hostage rest that came on my Edge SB1. Looking to upgrade. I'm target/field only.

A few years ago I bought two blade rests from the ArcheryTalk classifieds for a total of $75 - a Trophy Taker Spring Steel and a Brite Site Pro Tuner. I still have them both. I'm partial to the Brite Site due to the micro adjustability, but it's not essential. As long as it can easily be adjusted vertically and horizontally, you really can't go wrong with a blade rest. Check out the classifieds and try to find a good deal on a used one.

Is it common for the dealer to keep all the packaging? What I mean is I bought a brand new bow with complete set up . he installed all hardware but kept all boxes and packages with instructions and upc labels. I thought maybe this was normal. Then I bought another bow with all upgraded hardware. He kept the box the QAD HDX came in and my stabilizer and extra weight. I called him and went pick up the other color weights my stabilizer came with. I like keeping the packaging just in case I need it one day.

I’ve been bow hunting for 20+ years and you can get away with a cheaper bow even cheaper arrows and sights but 1 area I would not skimp out on is the arrow rest

I have been using the Hamskea Hybrid Hunter Pro Micro-Tune Rest for years to great satisfaction and got a QAD HDX on a new bow (Pro force FX) because the Hamskea would not fit in the riser cage. I am not very happy with it. It makes noise when when locking the rest up in it's shooting position. The arrow rattles and makes noise in the rest when moving moving around and it makes noise when it drop. It's everything you don't want as a hunter. At best, it's a 3D shooting rest. I must be missing something because all the major bow company have a model of this rest. I see people using tricks to make it more silent (Tape, silicone pads ect,,). This to me sounds like an unfinished products like if a new car had rattles and it was your job as a consumer to fix that on the pretext that it give you more options to customize it??? Not a big fan. Thanks for the video.

The rest comes with felt tape, which is used to keep things quiet on the launcher arm.
