Fun fact, 12F participated in the Kazdel civil war, thats where he met Owl, the loner female Rhodes Island (back then probably Babel) operator he often hangs around with. He quite literally has a life debt to her and seems to be her only friend, he also keeps tabs on her mental health for the HR department, since they can never get a hold of Owl.

In 12F case, he is a stand-in for one of the AK devs, that is why his dialogue is so 4th wall leaning, as is a sort of way for the devs to talk directly at us. That is more obvious at the secret ending of Ch 8.

Our allies are foreign politicians with mysterious plans, science companies that create weapons and perform human experimentation, cults, war criminals and a barely legal logistics company that works for an immortal mob boss penguin. And our main income comes from manufacturing and selling precious metals (some times through use of child labour) private security contracts (all LMD farming stages are called escorts) and literal annihilation operations (orundum is a form of currency in Terra) Perhaps its just the Doctor's wing of Rhodes Island (AKA, its military) but the company is in a very grey moral area in general. Its a "do ends justify the means?" Type of situation.

Them its for a good cause, but, Frost Nova, Patriot, Faust and Misha are still dead and they were all good people trying to do what they thought was right and defending those they loved. However, besides reunion you also have the wolumonde incident, in which our operators dont hesitate to turn against the infected rioters, again, with good reasons, but once again, Rhodes Island, self proclaimed saviour of the infected spilled infected blood. Not to mention how we stood by and allowed the black coats to slaughter the infected population of Lungmen. As for our operations, my point was that a pharmaceutical company, supposed to heal the world, makes most of its money from basically mercenary work and armed conflicts in which hundreds of people die. And talking about context and omissions, you dont have anything to say about how RI has no quams about giving a little girl a chainsaw with a bayonet and send her to the fight and kill? Of course not, thats something both true and morally grey, which goes against your argument that I´m an idiot. Same goes for all our other operators with questionable backgrounds, as long as they are usefull we dont care wether they are serial killers (Lappland) they have severe mental health issues and shouldnt be allowed near a weapon (Spectre) or even if they are wanted criminals (Haze) Look, dont get me wrong, I´m not saying Rhodes Island is evil, far from it, they are definitely a force of good in Terra. But in this world, even the most moral and good willed do some questionable stuff.

In the Stories of Afternoon story "Asking for Trouble" Midnight says he got infected because he mentored another host, who was better at the job however lacked things like a good family and money and therefore was jealous of Midnight. This man got someone to infect Midnight and attempted to kill him but failed, which is why Midnight learnt how to use a sword. The next time he tried to kill Midnight he ended up dead himself.
