The 747 used a lot of runway . That was the worlds longest flight for some time in the 90’s & early 2000’s. Now Qantas use mainly B787’s & even old Airbus A330-200’s. Watching a 787 it just does not need a lot of runway anymore.
@mitseraffej5812 Жыл бұрын
Not as much runway as the Emirates Airbus 340 did when the crew failed to include the fuel in the weight for the take off performance calculations on the same runway. They left tracks in the grass at the far end as well as hitting a few lights.

Yes, they were lucky and so was Melbourne airport. The Capt and Fo were sacked on return to Dubai. That I don’t agree with.

I was fortunate enough to fly QF SYD - HNL - SYD on the 747 one last time just before they were retired. Beautiful experience and I think the shakes and rattles etc just added to the romantic Queen of the Skies experience.

I had flown Mel-Sydney per Ansett in it’s final days. Ansett was the domestic provider so was surprised that the return flight was by 747 which I never travelled in before. The guy at the desk said Ansett had 4 747s. So my flight was the final leg of an international flight or it was a balancing move to transfer a 747 to Melbourne for some reason. It was roughly half full.

Interesting video! I think I hear the TOGA button selected at 4:41 but is seems to be a second or two before the throttles move forward. I would have expected that TOGA would result in an immediate throttle up? Thanks!

Not really. The 747 was a dream to fly. Thank you for the comment .
@darrelict1 Жыл бұрын
I may be wrong, but... I think the comments about the poor video quality are not so much about the head-mounted Go Pro. I believe they're referring to the ultra-reflective sun light making it impossible to see anything due to the brightness. It may also be when the outside view is blocked by the windscreen reinforcement beam during runway line-up. It blocks any outside view. But I still enjoyed it.
