Qantas First Class: 14 Hours Non-stop From Los Angeles To Sydney

Flying first class is everyone’s dream. This video shows you my fly experience in a first class cabin on a Qantas a380 jumbo jet, 14 hours, non-stop fly from Los Angels to Sydney Australia. For those who watched my previous videos, you know that I flew from Sydney to Los Angles two weeks ago for a short holiday. I documented that first class fly experience and I suggest you to watch it after this, as it was a beautiful experience, besides I was told off by one of the cabin crews not to film on board.
So what’s the return fly is like? How did I get another first class ticket? Will it be the same enjoyable experience like the previous flight? We shall check it out in this video.
Due to the fly was at the mid-night, I had this whole day for myself, so I took an uber and had a quick tour in Manhattan Beach, which is only 20 minutes away from the airport. As it’s a transit fly from Las Vegas, I stayed at this small but very nice hotel called H Hotel for one night, it’s right next to the airport, the room is nice and bright and has this amazing view looking over the Los Angels airport, not a bad place for plane spotting as well.
I checked in in the late afternoon around 7pm, as I want to check out the Qantas Lounge here.
The lounge is at level 5, tugged away in a corner. The lounge is no doubt very impressive, it has marble floor, a good color combination furniture. And due to late night flight, it’s not busy, or almost empty, which is good for me, as I need to relax a bit, and take a shower before to have something to eat.
Qantas Neil Perry Summer menu has a lot of varieties, but I choose the vegetarian stirred fried noodle dish instead, and the ice cream dessert is very yummy.
The boarding time was at 10:50pm. My seat was at 3k, the plane interior looks clear and newer than my previous flight QF11. The seating arrangement is 5 seats on both sides, 4 seats in the middle, total 14 first class seats.
These seats are newly refurbished after 2 years covid pandemic. It’s roomy, spacious, and has privacy. but one thing missing is the onboard wifi.
It was only two weeks ago I flew QF11 from Sydney to Los Angeles in the first class cabin, this is my return fly on QF12. So how did I get another first class ticket? Well, firstly I did not pay cash for the first class ticket, rather, I put up 60,000 frequent flyer points to bid for the upgrade from the business class. Is it a good deal? I think so. it’s the experience and enjoyment that counts.
Time for the late night dinner, flight attendant Tyla provides very professional and friendly services, it’s a five star dining experience at 38000 feet above in the sky. No doubt the menu is carefully designed for fine dinning. I ordered sealed samon salad as entry, it’s light and refreshing. For the main, I ordered the lamb cutlets, it was delicious.
If you want to leave your seat and change the scenery, you can go to the onboard lounge at the front upper deck, where you can relax, and have a chat to your fellow high flyer passengers, or maybe make some new friends.
When it comes the highlight of the fly, no doubt it’s when they made the bed for me. It’s the best moment of flying the first class.
I enjoyed both QF11 and QF12 flights, both provide very good services. But I think QF12 returning flight, the entire team has co-ordinated a bit better. What’s your flight experience, I would love to hear your comment. Thank you for watching, until next time, please take care.

Quite the experience, the Suite looked extremely private and the bed very comfortable (and wide!) A very warm and hospitable crew who seem to care passionately and clearly didn't want to miss out....made for an enjoyable flight. I would love to experience this one day! As an American living in Australia currently, Qantas has been a blast to travel back and forth from Melbourne to LAX. Economy seating is very nice but whenever I've been able to spring for business using my points or find a fair ticket cost I go for it and it is worth every cent. I get Australians may be disappointed and to be fair the cost is high for what you get but their are very few nonstop options Melbourne to LAX and Qantas offers the best for that route.

Not sure of the exact date you took this flight -- I flew the same in mid-November and had this same exact cabin crew in first class. Phenomenal service. Even going as far as to write out places of interest in Sydney for me to see during my trip. You did such a good job keeping passengers out of your video that I couldn't tell if it was the same flight or not!

I took this flight in early August 2023, and what a coincidence, you had the same crew! They are great. For other passengers privacy, I tried not to including them in the video, just in case they don’t like it. Indeed, the services from the Qantas crew was phenomenal. I often fly business and even on a 15 hour flight feel it is too short. So a first class seat will need Melbourne to New York to allow me to appreciate it. This route will be available in a few years.

No disrespect to your video but Qantas first and business are very average compared to other airlines. The food selection and wines are some you can expect from business class these days. Spacious and cleanliness yes but the design is pretty old. The new designs I think coming in 2025 (pretty late) are fantastic. Great video alan!

A lot of negative comments here are from former employees who are sour grapes. One huge benefit of Qantas is the crew bring refreshments at least every two hours in all cabins. I've flown most Asian carriers and once the meal service ends, the cabin crew disappear to the rear galley for a mammoth social gathering until the snack service.

I don’t know. Maybe it’s me but I don’t think that first class was that great. I’ve flown their business class quite a few times over the years and they’ve slowly gotten worse over time. That breakfast you had looked pretty standard to me. I’ve seen reviews of other airlines who’s first class looks way better and I can tell you that emirates , Japan, cathay business are better than qantas. Having said that I don’t think qantas is bad and as an Australian after spending a month or more in the states it is a good feeling getting on the qantas flight hearing the familiar accent knowing your going home to the greatest country on earth. And I do feel safe on qantas.

What a great comment here, thank you. I flew the other two you mentioned but not Japan airlines yet. I have to say the new Qantas business class is also great, I have just flew on a newly refurbished A380 business class from Sydney to LAX (QF11) 2 week ago, it was very nice, and the services were also up there. On the contrary, I just came back today from LAX onboard American airline 777-300ER business class, it was very disappointing. The seat was Ok, but the food and services were terrible. It makes me more appreciate Qantas ✈️

@@AlanLawSydney yes I’ve heard quite a few negative comments about American . I have a friend who regularly flies to the states on United and praises them. I’ve not flown them internationally but I flew them first class between DC and Sacramento a few years ago and I liked them a lot. Try JAL, they are one of my favourites, great food and the crew are extremely friendly. Plus a stop over in Japan is a great break in between a long flight.

You're a braver man than I forking out so much money for such a crap airline. I've wasted thousands of dollars on their 3rd rate Business class in the past but never again. Have switched my unappreciated loyalty to Singapore Airlines . So much better!

First time viewer. Enjoyed the majority of it. 2 small criticisms. First, if taking a lounge or aircraft shower, only show the neck and head, not your torso. Second, show and present the food, but refrain from showing it enter your mouth. Otherwise, good job and safe travels.

I've done first class in Qantas. It's ok. It was marred by my seat breaking and not able to rotate. My compensation 10,000 qantas points... Not enough for a one way ticket from Melbourne to Sydney. That aside. The business class in all honesty was much better.
