Looking at the QAV-S kit, I noticed that the 4" and 3" frames are basically the same, only different size arms. That could make for a great modular quad. Want long range? put the 4" arms on. Freestyle? change to the 3" arms. Of course, for this, the motors can't be soldered to the ESC's, they'd need some sort of connector.

Hey Joshua I have just ordered the QAV-S Mini 4" Analog because of the tutorial you put up. Could put up a video of how to tune this drone further and any little tweaks or mods? I'm a newbie to all this FPV so would like to try stay under the 250 gram mark. Thanks for your reviews, I got an Eachine 300O and Radiomaster T16S on your recommendation. Are there any mini/toothpick fpv drones you would recommend with my gear for newbies? Thanks for sharing with us, really enjoy it! Keep it up!

I love the QAV-S mini 4. I've had it build for a couple months now. I'm running Dave-C 1404-2450kv motors with gemfan 4023x3 props. with my naked gopro 8 and 1000mah RDQ battery I'm at 305 auw. Getting over 12 mins cruising and easy 7 min ripping pretty hard. I have some floppy props on the way from Pyrodrone, the 2 blade props, I want to use them for cruising maybe hit 14-15 mins with her. Thanks for video dude I really enjoy your content.

That’s how I would expect a 1404 on a 4” prop vs a 2004 on a 4” prop to compare
@avgvstvs963 жыл бұрын
JB, you talk about the Shocker like it's a heavy frame, it's only 48.5 grams, compared to a Diatone Roma that's 47g, the increased durability is from trick engineering alone and with the right motor setup (1404s like all the other micro long rangers) this is the best frame for a micro long range build. All GPS, antenna, and xfire mounts are made by catalyst and are engineered really well, the antenna mount is the best I've used on any of my quads. You and other reviewers have made this same mistake about this quad and assuming it heavy because they sent you a 2004 version rather than a 1404 4". It's a more freestyle oriented frame by design but the weight allows it to be compared to and ultimately beat the micro long range frames in every aspect except battery capacity because of prop clearance. I hope this changes your perspective on this frame! I just finished a 5" FPVcyc. 2204 build in one and am thoroughly impressed.
@JoshuaBardwell3 жыл бұрын
I talk about the shocker build like it's heavier than the roma build. Not the frame. The build as a whole. The Shocker has 2004 motors which add weight, but also performance. The Shocker 4" was going to be in my lightweight 4" roundup. I asked Catalyst if they could build it under 250g with 1404 motors, and they said it's not really for that, and we agreed to take it out of that roundup and put it in a class of its own. So I'm not making the mistake of classifying it as a heavier quad. That comes straight from the designer.
@avgvstvs963 жыл бұрын
@@JoshuaBardwell I gotcha, I just think the fact that the frame is so light has been lost on people who perhaps would want to build a micro long range because nobody directly compared the frames. Considering the difference in durability between the Shocker and a Flywoo Explorer or Diatone Roma it's kinda tragic more people don't know how good this frame is for micro long range, I haven't seen one build with 1404s and I think that's partly because Catalyst sent the 2004 motor version as you mentioned and reviewers weren't clear on the frames multiple use cases. Despite Catalyst saying it's not made for that, it's literally the best micro long range frame on the market when built as such so Catalyst's mistake was making the frame too good and not realizing it! Thanks for the reply JB.

Would you say you prefer it over a 5”? I’m getting my first dji quad and need to decide between the shocker 4” and a different 5” build since I can’t afford multiple quads atm
@Klaatu_3 жыл бұрын
@@viciousavacado4941 If you don't plan on putting a GoPro on I would go with the 4 inch. It is pretty fast, and can get into tight spaces and I think for non fpv people if you fly it in a park will find it less threatening because it is smaller and quieter. If memory serves in JB's video on the two 5 vs 4 I believe he narrowed down the difference to the GoPro example I stated.

Edit: You tryin’ to give me an opportunity to win that Shocker from ya??
