Thank God it was modernised before I worked onboard in 87 and 88.

How strange to see myself going from the bureau to the bank (with bad hair and flares)! Also she is QE2, not QEII.

How interesting. I bet it does feel a bit strange with so many years passing. It is funny that at the time it feels like one is just getting on with things...and yet now it all seems so long ago. I have some more film of the QE2, I hope to get a chance to put it on before too long.

ISNT QE2 AND OCEAN LINER????? (Because they refer to it as a cruise ship) 🤨
@maxustaxus4 жыл бұрын
Well, she was, as we all know, an Ocean Liner at the outset...but I guess for advertising stuff, which this is, she may be called all sorts of things for different routes. But I think we agree, that the QEII can never be diminished by labels.

@@maxustaxus Yes. Ocean Liners are real ships that cross the North Atlantic regardless of whether. Considering this ship survived a road wave in the 1990s I believe, it should be necessary to call it an Ocean Liner not a cruise ship. ;-) However the documentary itself was amazing. I love the narrator and the 70s style film and music. It's why I saw myself watching the entire documentary. I'd put this in my liked videos since it's basically like an updated "Top Liner 1948" documentary. Thanks for responding. ☺️😊

Technically speaking she was built as a dual purpose Ocean Liner and Cruise Ship (as is her replacement QM2), albeit a lot more Ocean Liner than cruise ship. Cunard's Q3, a pure Ocean Liner design was shelved and developed into the Q4 design which became QE2, precisely because pure Ocean Liners had had their time because of the jet airliner and not being easily convertible nor really designed for cruising from the outset. Happy memories to last a lifetime of sailing on QE2 in her last 5 years in service, generations after this but with some things in this video such as the chests of draws, mirrors and lights either side of the mirrors still recognisable as they remained the same right up until she retired in 2008.

@@THypher1 That's quite interesting. I never had the chance to sail on the ship personally but the hotel experience in Dubai looks really nice. I'm glad she was saved.
