Great video. In addition to my earlier comments, I'll also add a strong word of caution to anyone planning to cross the Atlantic on QM2, and that is to take a warm jacket or coat. Even during the dog days of August, the mid-Atlantic can be frightfully cold, and you'll want something very warm in order to wander around outside. And after a few days of indulgence, you're going to be needing that walk and breath of fresh air, so you'll be glad for a warm jacket. By no means should this discourage anyone from a trans-Atlantic crossing. It's a spectacular experience! And as the QM2 is a proper ocean liner, she's built for the rough seas, so even in the stormiest of weather, she just plows through the water like a hot knife through butter.

At the end of 1999 I retired after 30 years in Law Enforcement. One of the things I planned to do and cross off my bucket list, was to take the QM2 from New York to Southampton, (7days). Now living in Canada, I had to get a return flight from NY and a return ticket from London to NY. Everything was planned, paid for, just a deposit for the cruise and as the days approached I was really getting so excited. In February of 2000 Covid hit, all the plans were cancelled and needless to say I was devastated. Fortunately I received a full refund, except for 1 small voucher. Now that everything is back up and running, unfortunately I am unable to re- book. Thank you so much for this video. I felt like I was there, enjoying what I would have experienced. ❤

This looked so nice. As an American, I would say fancy, you might say posh. My anxiety issues leave me with no desire to cruise, but your calm voice, the beautiful ship, the well-mannered people, etc., made it look very intriguing. Recently, I watched a video of someone who went on a cruise, from here in the US. It was nothing like this. Now that I think about it, the people that were on the ship were exactly like how I think people from other countries perceive Americans. Loud, obnoxious, you know, all the negatives. Plus, the food looked pretty bad. Anyway, you did a wonderful job of showing the beautiful ship, and what you can do while cruising. It almost made me want to go, myself. Almost.😅 You would make a wonderful cruise director. I thoroughly enjoyed this. I loved the art deco decor, too. Homer was a silly surprise. I'm excited to see, or hear about, your time in Germany.😊

Diana, my advice would be that every cruise line is so so different! This ship is from the Cunard Line, and I recently cruised on Queen Elizabeth and found the passengers to be very different to what I'd found on other lines. I love seeing people watching cruise videos on KZbin who aren't necessarily interested in taking a cruise! :)

Mr C, thanks for your guide to QM2. You look like you’ve been cruising much longer for a young man. You’re also easy on the eye and presentable. If you sailed to Hamburg, you could cruise back to back in Southampton. I sailed on Elizabeth before the pandemic to Zeebrugge but instead of going to Bruges, went to Blankenburg/erge by a shuttle bus. I’ve booked QM2 for my belated birthday in ‘26 with a scenic cruise on the Cornish coast. June

Room service is usually completely free on Cunard.A service charge is automatically added to everyones bill on most cruise lines.This is for staffing gratuities. You can ask for this to be removed and tip the waiters,room steward etc there is an additional service charge with every bar staff served drink also.
@catrinlewis939 Жыл бұрын
I was going to say this. The $29 something he mentioned wasn't for the room service, it was the usual general gratuity for a cabin of two.

What a lovely start to Sunday morning. I live in Southampton so I see the liners and cruise ships constantly and back in 2017 I was lucky enough to go transatlantic on the QM2 and it was the trip of a lifetime 😊If you ever get the chance do it there is nothing like sailing into New York

I live in Southampton as well. It's so handy going on a cruise as it takes about 15 minutes from where we live. We've been on 7 and the last one was 17 nights. I doubt we will be going on anymore due to different things.

A couple of tips for you: On longer sailings when you may need to take more luggage, note that there is plenty of room under the beds to store your empty suitcases while you're at sea; that way you can maximize your closet space for your actual clothing. The coffee table in front of the sofa, if I'm not mistaken, is height adjustable. This is a nice touch since Cunard still offers complimentary room service, and you can adjust that table to a more comfortable height for eating. The drinks package at $90/day is much more expensive when purchased on board. We'll be sailing next summer, and the same package when purchased in advance is $70/day. Also, keep in mind that the rate is per person, so that's effectively a difference of $40/day if you're sailing as a couple.

It all looked rather nice,comfortable and glamorous obviously steeped in history. So glad you enjoyed your cruise, what a lovely adventure for you. My daughter has been a singer and entertainer on cruise ships. but i never really fancied it myself as it was always super busy, but this one looked so relaxed. I remember my daughter's sea day's when there was a storm and they were performing, the chairs were sliding about with people sitting on them. People were laughing so much. Everything was moving, draws, cupboards all manner of thing's. Keep calm and carry on was the motto.

Loved watching your cruise. My daughter and I went on a Norway cruise in September and had the best weather flat sea it was amazing. It was my second cruise as I did a rather extended cruise with my late husband in 2020 for 18 night taking us around the Caribbean and back across the Atlantic to Madeira and Spain. When my daughter and I arrived back at Southampton we saw the Queen Mary 2 in the dock and she looked splendid. It was nice to see around the inside and I may even try to coax my daughter to go with me on another cruise perhaps on QM2. Thank you for sharing your amazing cruise with us xx

There is no service charge for Breakfast in bed or room service. Not last month when I was on her anyway. No dark jeans are not allowed in the dining room after 6pm. When you arrived in Hamburg some people had completed a 32 day voyage starting in Hamburg, then Southampton (where we boarded) New York (where we disembarked) , a two week voyage to Canada going as far as Quebec, back to New York, Southampton (where you boarded) and finally back in Hamburg. Your video was very enjoyable and made me wish I was back. You should take a transatlantic to get a real feeling of what this ship is built for.

This is the second time I've viewed your video; far and away the best I've come across, and I have seriously looked for QM2 review videos. I think you were on board shortly before it went in for a major dry dock refit in the Netherlands. I first embarked QM2 with my late wife in 2009, and have now clocked up over 260 days on board, including 23 Transatlantic crossings: on one such crossing I met the late President Bush Snr. If I can be of any assistance in providing info concerning the QM2 then please do get in touch. Greetings from a fellow UK resident.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful experience! I was looking at Mediterranean cruises and sent info to my mother and BFF on Oct 6th, to be precise. I've wanted to go in one that goest to Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Malta, Israel, and Egypt (and, a few more/less ... about two weeks.) Well as of the next day, the last two are out. We will likely not be able to go til next fall or so, mainly due to health issues, and it will be a trip of a lifetime. We've cruised the Eastern and Western Caribbean and we've land travelled throughout southern and northern US and UK and Ireland. I really wish we had cruised the UK and Ireland. They were everywhere we were, and we were taking buses, the Tube, trains, and planes rather tan unpacking once. So, that's my recommendation! I must say that things have changed. Yes, it is the QM2, but all cruising seems to have changed. We ate (free) continental breakfast in our room, and then learned we could have had full service in the dining rooms for every meal. Cruising his great to unpack once, know when and where to go to eat or see a show, know how to get there, cost, etc.! On a land trip, you spend so much more time deliberating and traipsing around clueless, take longer to get any where, and then have to stay for a short time (excursions i.e.). So, I hope those watching find thst this us a great value. You two were testing the ropes and got hit on some of those costs! But, you loved everything and showed us that we may have those experiences or just go the inclusive route. This was so informative and even relaxing watch! I too recommend cruising all the way. Except, I do want to do a driving tour of Scotland! So glad you enjoyed your trip! Loved the art (gasp!), history, photos, shows, library! I did not like those big eyed dolls in the shops, but I loved that you may bring your furbabies! You deserved this! Good on you finding the trip and enjoying with your partner! You looked relaxed, rested, and truly at peace! And, that's the best part of the entire trip!
