I worked for McDonnell Douglas, Long Beach, CA, during the 1980's/90's. Part of the time, on the MD-80 program. Flew on them often, in and out of SNA, via AA. I always enjoy watching videos about them. Still think they are a beautiful plane in flight. One of the great work horses of aviation. Along with the venerable DC-3.

Hey buddy, the MD-82 is an excellent aircraft absolutely. Supposed to be the competitor to the 727. They're nice and loud upon takeoff. And man do they climb. And sharp engine tune inside the cabin. Very very nice. Please keep coming out with more vlogs!!

I miss that plane ... A lot!! First was part of my childhood during the 80's and early 90's thru Aeromexico that included 3 daily flights to my hometown (CEN).. Then I took a couple of Delta and American Airlines domestic flights from TUS, in the later 90's and early 2000's . I miss their big and comfortable windows !

Last MD-80 flights I took were from Albuquerque to Myrtle beach and back through Charlotte Douglas International Airport on American MD-80 both ways, except for the short leg over to Myrtle beach that was on some Embraer 175. Probably back in 2014. I remember a flight to California to visit my brother in the early 90's while he was in collage that was also on an American MD-80 from Chicago to San Francisco. I was in the last row and I seem to remember that row of seats did not recline, or hardly reclined at all. Your trip to the bathroom at 13:22 clearly shows reclined seats in the last row, that man in the blue shirt was dead to the world ;). BTW, I like how to labeled some landmarks along the way with their logo none the less!

Nice one. I flew down to the DR about a week and a half after you, albeit on a less interesting aircraft. 737-900ER in my case, EWR-STI. Stayed a week in Puerto Plata, then back home on a 737 Max 9 - people can freak out as much as they like, but the Max 9 is a very nice plane to fly on. And probably the safest one in the sky after the rigorous inspections it’s gone through lately!

"Every seat is leftover from American Airlines" -- as is the pitch, I see. I flew these jets about every two weeks in the late 90s going from AUS to OAK and hated them. I have always had a fondness for this aircraft. Probably because the first jet airliner I ever flew on was an Air Canada DC-9 almost 60 years ago as a young child and I can still remember the distinctive smell inside that aircraft. Of course, back then you could still smoke on an airliner and lots of people did so the smell of cigarettes permeated the interior of the aircraft which TBH was not a bad thing at least to my olfactory senses as a kid at least as I remember it although I might think differently today. I imagine the experience of flying on an MD-82 was not much different than that of flying on a DC-9 almost 60 years ago. Of course back then they didn't have "leather" seats. Instead, they were fabric. Comfortable but not practical from a maintenance standpoint especially if a passenger had an "accident". Also back then there were no overhead bins just a large open shelf for your jacket. Carry-on luggage had not been invented, and neither had roll-on luggage. As for inflight entertainment that was still decades in the future but otherwise, I don't think the overall experience was much different on the old DC-9 vs the MD-82 or for that matter any other modern airliners. Also in that era, I remember flying on the much larger DC-8. Very similar to the DC-9 but with 6-abreast seating instead of 5-abreast. Back then as a kid, you were invited by the "Stewardess" (No guys back then! They were flying the plane!) to visit the cockpit and I can remember as a kid on an Air Canada DC-8 flight to Montreal getting invited to the cockpit and I remember the co-pilot pointing at some clouds far off in the distance and telling me that we were going to fly through where he was pointing. It's too bad that kids today don't get that experience because I think that one visit to the cockpit inspired a life-long love of aviation in me. One of the big differences then vs. now is even on short domestic flights you got a full meal served on what I recall were trays, plates, and cups made from bakelite. Of course today you are lucky to get a bag of peanuts and a plastic cup of water! Thank you for this video. I always enjoy your travels!
