Hi there, yes the link has changed, but it actually benefits us. When you render the map, you'll see a new website watermark. Visit that website, sign up for a free account and explore the old map layers. It's copy/paste in place pretty much 🙂

@@clifftonicstudios7469 sure, it's maptiler.com. the good news is they have more than the 1 inch map. They also have the 6 inch which is much better. You're looking for NLS tiles www.maptiler.com/nls/

@@clifftonicstudios7469 I'm sorry but not for a while at present. Once you select the old OS map you want, it's the XYZ link you need to copy.and paste into the same place as the original NLS tile server area

Oh no! Ok, what version are you using? What happened exactly when your tied?

The only thing I can think of is permissions. Depending on your version, when you click 'create new shapefile layer' and you get the popup window, you have to put in 2 names. BUT the name at the top is for the filename and its location. Sometimes it can default to programme files and you won't get write permissions. Click the top 3 dots and select a place to save the shapefile where you have permission (i keep mine with my lidar and saved files). That should hopefully fix it.

But what I was trying to work out what was wrong I fiddled around with the file encoding bar and now it comes up on the last one I did what should that be on please? Thank you very much for your help your videos are very well presented and easy to follow even for people like me?

Im glad that worked. I'm not 100% sure on what you've done when you mentioned fiddling with the file.encoding bar, but you can reset menus and views. I'm away at the moment but I cant remember exactly where.

How do I log finds at a specific location please? Can I tag a find with a photo too?

Hi there, it depends on how you record the finds. If you use an app where you can export gpx or kml files, then you can import them directly into qgis as a layer.

@@unearthers - At the moment I just record the BNG coordinates by photographing the find alongside a handheld GPS. In the GIS system I use at work (Global Mapper) it's trivially easy to create a point at given coordinates. I can't seem to work out how to do this with QGIS :-(

@@peterbriggs3408 ah right, ok. Yes global mapper makes a lot of things easier and it took me a long time to step away. It's not perfect, but you can edit the location of an existing point on a map gis.stackexchange.com/questions/296574/creating-a-point-in-qgis-3-2-2-with-coordinates

Yeah - spotted that one. Just seemed odd that it was so difficult rather than just a basic function

@@peterbriggs3408 there's a few quirks with qgis for sure, but it's infinitely more expandable than Global Mapper and free. My work also pays for global mapper which I do use, but I wouldn't want the licencing bill, that's for sure. If you use a GPS unit to record location, you should be able to export all of the spots as a kml or gpx file somehow. If you're recording lots of locations, I think that's how I'd do it.
