INCORRECT...the word 'BOSS' was used because it can be flipped upside down and all three letters (B, O, S) are the same flipped upside down...only the capital b though...cor blimey, wtaf is wrong with stupide humans??? truly, there should be an IQ quiz before allowing comments online...answer a few questions correctly and one can post, would eliminate the flotsam...

@@datgrrl_official It's hardly the only word in English that can be flipped upside down. You could use the exact same letters and have the word "sob", for example. C can be flipped upside down. Et cetera. So yeah, the probability that choosing this particular word was a joke/reference is quite high.

Okay, Sandi made a joke but there is a reason Liza saw her reflection 'bulge' for a second when she shifted which eye she was focusing on. Its her glasses, because of how glasses have to be curved for best correction of your vision you only ever get actually identical refraction of light looking straight ahead. When you shift your eyes to look to the side the refraction each eye receives is slightly different. Normally our visual cortex adjusts the image so we don't notice (the same way it covers the blindspot directly ahead by creating a composite off the surrounding). But focusing on your eye in a mirror, then immediately switch focus to the other, the slight distortion of the light in the mirror and the differing refraction of the glasses, the brain stumbles for a second as the composite image from both eyes aren't composited, and for a second you see the world as each eye would see it differently.

During WW2 she and a musician friend used a miniature player piano mechanism to make radio devices for radio controlled torpedoes change radio frequency to avoid jamming. Frequency hopping was already at least 40 years old, nobody used radio controlled torpedoes, the technology was superseded before use, the only novel thing in her patent was the mechanical mechanism, and her patent is not secret if ever it was. So no, she didn't help win the war and it's not secret.

I've known since childhood that some birds see their reflection as either a possible mate, or as an enemy. You can tell by their behavior which one they see! Right now, each and every day, we have two wild birds who attack our tinted glass windows. The windows are covered by steel grills, which they hang on to, and peck at the glass hard, attacking the "other" bird. Every day! Luckily, the glass is thick enough that they have yet to break one, but it might happen soon!

I've always thought my mum should have learned mirror writing. She's a retired journalist and used to do all her interview notes on notepads with a ball point pen. Being left handed, she had the smudging problem, and learned to write with an extremely awkward handwriting that even herself had a hard time reading 😄 I just thought, how long would it really take to just learn to write and read backwards? But then I was a kid, and learning anything seemed easy.

That's because they don't answer the up/down part. A more precise explanation (in my opinion, anyway): When you lie down on your left side, the floor is on your left, and up is on your right. Look in the mirror, and you will see that the word looks the same, but you will also see that the floor (down) is still on your left, and up is still on your right. It's our perception of up/down that causes the confusion, because even when upside-down, we will "see" up as up. Somehow this explanation starts to get confusing, but that's for the same reason. ;) Please, let me know if this helps. :)

There is a non-scatological explanation for the ziplock bag on the moon. Apollo 16 astronaut Charlie Duke left a photograph of himself with his wife and two sons on the the lunar surface in a ziplock bag. He then snapped a photo of it with his fancy Hasselblad camera.

Even QI gets the mirror thing wrong! Up and down are absolute directions, left and right are relative directions. Put a mirror on a north wall, stand in front of it and look at your self. Move the top of your head, move the bottom of your legs, wave your west arm, wave your east arm... see, nothing flipped. :)

Sandi's explanation about flipping things in the mirror makes no sense to me. The reason why things LOOK flipped in a mirror is that the light that illuminates you goes directly to the mirror and is reflected directly back. There is no "flipping". It's just that our brains interpret it that way. There's no reason for the image to be inverted, that is turned upside down. It's an interesting illusion and mind game that Lewis Carroll got a lot of mileage out of. But it doesn't really exist.
