Yes, curious too. The same Empress dowager, Hongli's (foster?) mother, is Zhen Huan in Empresses in the Palace. She has several children in that C-drama.

@@MandaLynn8 Yongzhen is in the drama Empresses of the Palace (the legend of Zhen Huan) (2011). There is a drama about Yongzhen The era of emperor Yongzhen (Yongzhen dynasty (1999).

She was a pretty exceptional woman who lived a long life was extremely pious(didnt even take medicine), took care of high ranking imperial women, and had a great relationship among the princes.

In my understanding, dowager consorts of any rank including the empress dowager are respected out of filial piety. However the reigning empress consort is formally the most powerful woman in the harem. So I guess technically the reigning empress humbles herself at her own will out of filial piety, and not because her rank is officially lower. I could be wrong.

@@twinoferos because the Empress dowager is technically the mother of "the sun of heaven" I was always under the impression that she had in many ways the strongest role. Filial piety did play a large role but she was even able to put her supporters in place if she was smart enough. Not to mention she would be addressed first even if the Emperor and Empress was present.

Empress consorts would be required to show filial piety to a dowager imperial noble consort since they are usually both their senior and a vice empress dowager in all but name. This would especially come into play if there is no living empress dowager. Empress Xiaojingcheng is one example that comes to mind as during the reign of her step son, the Xianfeng emperor, Empress Xiaojingcheng only had the rank of imperial noble consort but because Xianfeng's mother, Empress Xiaoquancheng, died prior to her son's ascension, this made her the highest ranking dowager, granting her special privileges akin to an empress dowager which include selecting candidates to become Xianfeng's consorts (Empress Dowager Ci'an and Cixi were among the candidates chosen). Other examples include Imperial Noble Consort Wenjing (Emperor Guangxu's concubine), Imperial Noble Consort Gongsu, Imperial Noble Consort Xianzhe, and Imperial Noble Consort Dunhui (all three the concubines of Emperor Tongzhi) who were in charge of the upbringing of Puyi, the last emperor of China, after their superior, Empress Dowager Longyu, died.

I think it's just she's not favoured. Qianlong didn't like her like he did to another concubines. Various reason, maybe because of face, or maybe she's not really that capable to get into the "high society" people since she's just a tribute from her hometown.
