Variance is a cruel mistress - one should be able to do this strategy and get better results with than I. Rip the Jingoist. Such a cruel fate to die so young.

I've started avoiding using any general/admiral I have who is also an IG leader (who I don't want to die) because I think it increases the likelihood that they die younger. Not sure if there's a direct connection (outside of actually dying in battle), but it seems like it should matter. Likewise, if there's someone I want to die... I just keep sending them into every battle. The latter has worked once for me :D

One trick for the Opium Wars that I've found is to declare it yourself as a liberate subject play against the East India Company, and include British war reps and recognition. Sounds crazy, I know, but in my experience having the front in Tibet makes Britain not bother naval invading in China. You can naval invade Singapore as usual, then hire 2 extra admirals and do the multi naval invasion trick to get a beachhead in South Bengal, then just defend both fronts. Your convoys will get raided to hell but you have the population to not care about the attrition in South Bengal, and if they push you out just invade again. In my several runs using this trick Britain has never naval invaded in China, never bothered to retake Singapore and rarely even pushed into Tibet. They just sit there and do nothing until they capitulate, causing India to splinter into a dozen unrecognized regional powers ripe for the taking and getting me recognition by 1840.

This was the idea behind trying to goad Sikh/Portugal into joining, and is probably reasonable/better than my approach. I thought about releasing/transferring the EIC too, but decided I wanted to leave the save on the discord a little bit more sandboxy.

@@generalistgaming does someone please explain me why everyone want get recognized as qing or even in other countries? there is no important rewards , just couple of more interest and such. which i get interest through pupating nations in different regions. In fact, if you are not even a recognized power, some places are in your favor. You can keep the influence rate high by placing rivals in weak countries. Weak countries have a low level of interest in different regions and in your diplomatic plays, they do not stand on the side of the country you attack. If they have interest in areas where you have a diplomatic play, they usually don't stand up against China with its large army. And if they turn against you, you will be welcomed as China, and you can get points from that country too. The high rate of influenza, which is obtained through placing numerous rivals in small and weak countries, can do two things for you. First, they easily give you a -25% infamy decay buff (which allows you to conquer or pop the world more). And secondly, you can improve your relations with superpowers and even have trade agreements or alliances with them. In this way, due to your good relations with the superpowers, you reduce the possibility of negative orientation in your diplomatic plays. If you join the great powers, the problem is that you have to choose between 4 or 5 other great powers to increase your influence (usually 2 is more than enough). And I get tired of seeing that I have to worry about the superpowers (who are angry with me because I made them a rival) for my every diplomatic play. And I don't have to worry about my convoys and proper peace with rival great power while my army is still uncompetitive compared to the Western powers. and even if my army is competitive and strong compare to great powers , still i want to avoid clashing to them while puppeting Congo As China, around 1890 and above, I remove China from unrecognized power and become great power. I heard that in Victoria 2, a proper reward system was designed for being a great power in the world, and in the next updates of Victoria 3, Paradox is trying to get the same rewards for being a great power. Do you agree with my view or not? If you do not agree, please tell me your reasons.

I really appreciate the guide, Qing is one of my favourite nations to play, although i usually just avoid the Opium War and eat the negatives until i have Line Infantry(and a stronger military). At which point GB usually leaves me alone. But i will have to try this strategy (Or possibly the EIC variation that was mentioned in another comment.). You are definitly still the best Victoria 3 content creator on YT, these guides are so useful.

A tip I’ve found helpful - if you have a great defensive general (I believe one of the Chinese generals has stalwart defender which is a +10 defense and ungodly helpful) you can guarantee they defend every time by having them be the only general taking the defend action and setting the rest of your generals to attack. It’s manpower intensive since you know most of your army is being fed to the meat grinder but for the opium wars it’s really helpful to make sure only my best defensive general is defending

I know its been a month since this came out but I wanna say thanks, I've tried Great Qing runs before and always fell flat on my face pretty early, Usually thanks to the opium wars. But I watched your video, Took Brazil early and this time I absolutely stomped the UK in the opium wars this time around. They decided it would be smart to invade Brazil instead of China so I just let them invade a bit so their army was a way from the rear then sent a naval invasion to attack british Guayana,, They did not react at all and I completely bricked their invasion without even having to fight them directly, While I also sent a few naval invasions at Singapore, The Indian Ocean Territory and the South Atlantic Islands and a couple african colonies for good measure while their army was off fighting Brazil. In the end I had more than a 90 point war support lead by the time they actually tried attacked me (They were on -41 I was on +51), I got recognition and War reperations and all it cost me was some convoys. Admittedly I did save scum once, When my Jingoist Landowner died off very shortly after I got him so I couldn't pass any laws nor exile anyone again, I got lucky though second time he stuck around long enough to pass proffessional army and Colonial exploitation, I've already cut off the UK in Kenya and I'm ready to spread deeper. Oh and its February 28th 1840 at time of writing. TLDR: Stomped the UK and am off to a good start as Qing, Thanks for the advice they helped a lot.

Generalist, maybe consider a decree to promote agriculture early on as a peasant heavy country? It does affect subsistence farms, so will help depress the price of grain and, notably, produce more wood (much more than lumber mills as China; at game start that is). It will boost the landowners, yes, but the abovementioned effects may still help. Tried it as Japan and it kinda worked, as I could build more construction sectors with less lumbering.

So, for rapidly developing an economy, empowering the industrialists definitely seems to be the way to go. LF + powerful industrialists just gives so much juice to the investment pool (I play with autonomous investment off, so I don't need to worry about control over what gets built) Conversely, late game, the Labor Unions seem to be the strongest, the sheer amount of goods you can produce with that extra throughput and workforce ratio all but assures economic dominance. My question is when should I start transitioning away from the industrialists and towards the labor unions? Similarly, when should I stop putting all my resources into juicing the construction sector and focus on my pops?

There’s a very dumb strategy I did in one of my first games as Qing - found it by accident in a much earlier patch so I’m not sure if it still works. If you promise to do something about the Opium crisis, but then wait until Britain is busy to ban it, often they just don’t care. You’re able to clear the threshold for the disaster to end and Britain doesn’t raise a finger. Obviously this means you can’t get war reps or recognition until later, but it allows you to do economy in peace. I’d definitely say this is cheese, and I haven’t checked in a bit so it might’ve been patched, but it’s a sure fire way to make your Qing game very quiet for a few decades.

The kind of buildings that investors are willing to pay for are also controlled by your economic laws. Agriculturalism for example wont pay for industry buildings those funds will just be added to the investment pool which will never actually be used by you unless you actually build agricultural buildings. Laissez faire is great here because it applies to both agricultural and industrial buildings it also allows you to use more investment pool funds than interventionism does. The only real downside to Laissez faire is the lack of the ability to subsidize anything other than infrastructure.

a short question, sry for it in advance: Does it make sense to, at the start of the game, to hyper focus on producing coal and iron and export it over to countries u wish to conquer (as a non great power that is)? If I remember correctly then the more overproduction of a thing u have in your market, the less money you will make through the traderoute. The less money you will make through the traderoute, the more the AI buys through your export traidroute. That means they are less likely to build coal and iron themself. If you declare war, the trade route will break down and their weapons production goes away, in turn making their soldiers useless... If this a solid thing or just my headcanon?
@generalistgaming
@generalistgaming Жыл бұрын
It makes sense, but it's better to do it w/ wood, as the PM is really efficient, esp before condensing pump on the coal. Trade is less about making money w/ tariffs and more about manipulating market prices. If you have a disproportionately large amount of coal mines, relative to your economy, then you want to export coal to raise the price to make those industries more profitable. To that end, yeah, generally you don't want to tariff stuff you're actively trading unless you have a specific reason to. Killing the market supply of a specific good is generally worse than chasing profit, as it's hard to make a country run a shortage w/o overbuilding a specific industry so that you're losing a lot of value.

I have not noticed that about the interest group, which is indeed very interesting but also historically accurate. China is the first civilization to have an examination standard and elected officials based on the merits of the examination. You can become an aristocrats, given plots of land and ludicrous salary to preside over an area (town, province, state, base on your ranking) by doing well in the exam. In that sense, they are a bit like the landlord + aristocrat + bereaucrats in the west. Their power was only second to the royal family, which is probably why they were known to be rampantly corrupt after gathering influence and connection over generation, which was one of the things that screwed qing. Religious group did, in fact, have very little presence in politics.

Since you're sort of doing the cheese run with multi-landings anyways and encouraging save scumming (which is fine, this game is about breaking history), I think the best opening is to replicate all your legal moves (rush colonialism, get a jingoist, etc), but where I diverge from you is to embrace the cheese to the max. Don't move capital, it stays Beijing. Immediately start a war with Portugal to take back Macau. They have a defensive pact with Perfidious Albion (PA), so this starts a war with them as well. Set some of your big generals to *defend* this front, so that PA tries to fight you there. Your war goals are to liberate Ireland and demand recognition, nothing else really matters. For the war, take all the undefended regions like Nova Scotia, PA Guyana, and a few multilandings on Portugal's African and Indonesian holdings, and to spam on the PA Isles. Toss a few landings into Portugal proper to match PA's war support decay, and you enforce eventually. And here's the big cheese. As soon as you win the above war, start another war with PA by getting them to fight you over Chile or Oyo or whatever else they are protective about. Then, max out infamy on taking PA's big manufacturing centers. Midlands, Lancashire, etc, and also take PA Kenya (they rarely re-settle it allowing you unchallenged access to east Africa) and transfer places like Australia, Canada. Repeat the above to win the war. Make sure to keep max infamy so that someone decks you in a Cut Down To Size play. Capitulate, while the above war is happening. Your infamy is reset to zero, you lose Tibet, Korea and Lanfang (easy to retake after, if you want), but in return you get PA's core manufacturing states and a bunch of vassal transfers. After this war, you can try to start another one for some lower infamy transfers, but it's hard because the Brits have been broken and are very scared to fight again. You'll have to put down a secession in your new British state, but that's fine, it resets turmoil. #1 state by 1842, and then you can roleplay doing the Belt and Road Initiative, making Africa a manufacturing and agricultural powerhouse. (Also please learn some pinyin! X in pinyin is a sharp 'sh' sound, almost an 's' sound. For example, Ningxia is pronounce ning-sya or similar.) Edit: It's good to build some docks and shipyards early on, helps to not have max convoy deficiency when you're spamming landings and immediately defending. Edit again: You need to recruit max admirals and a bunch of generals for this. Like 15+ generals.
@generalistgaming
@generalistgaming Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure why you're calling them PA over UK here, but I didn't want to do an infamy reset for this run in particular, because I wanted it to still be able to appeal to a wider audience. Otherwise yeah, I'd generally agree, although I think you just ban opium while fighting Brazil and get the reset on two wars at once. Also, I want the run to be relatively consistent and replicable, as opposed to absolutely pushed.

Turmoil is extremely high in some Brazilian states and it barely decreases(75% to 50%) in 20 years. I have dedicated police force and incorporated all the states. I look at the subsistence farms in Brazil and only 150k are employed of 700k. Of the employed only 30k are Mahayana Han What am I doing wrong? I thought about trying to pass total separation and multiculturalism but there is 0% support for it in Wing

You don't need total sep/multi, you just need to wait for the turmoil to come down, as it has a pretty severe negative modifier for migration. It takes a little bit, but it shouldn't be too many years before the most populous culture in those states is Han.

If you are looking for a 'slightly' more historical target for Qing expansion (I don't even think they knew what Brazil was in the 1830s) then my favorite choice is Mexico. California is an amazing place for pops to migrate to, and the US ai seems less aggressive to you than it does to Mexico, giving you at least a couple of decades before they decide to attack, and by then they are probably dealing with a civil war. Even if they do take it, then the millions of Chinese who have already filled it up by that time will make it very hard to manage. Not to mention that Mexico has 17 divisions and no navy.

China with National Guard and National Militia is hilarious. You have a massive on call army, which you cannot afford to run for long periods of time, but at the same time you can recruit so many so quickly you just steamroll the enemy lines before they can do anything. Going Isolationist as well for your trade side of things, is a great way to learn how to economy. Too bad mid/late game in the 1920s the game cannot handle anything, trying to import/export takes 30 seconds for it to load, definitely recommend it starting off. Once Britain is dealt with you have free reign. Russia is imitating because they keep asking to take one of your provinces off your hands as a way to help you out with wars, as did Korea later on in game

You could declare portugal on day1 to take back macau (which brings in GB), and naval invade malta to win the opium war. Leave all other troops to defend macau and they wont invade

There's a much easier way to get into war with Great Britain: Declare on Portugal to reclaim Macau. Because Portugal and GB start as a defensive pact the brits will be called in. If you do this at game start GB will not have a stake in the war and can't really make demands. So you are free to naval invade portugal for an easy win. This will also peace out GB for a free 5 years of non-aggression, pretty much free opium wars win.

Yeah, this would've probably been a little better. Best is probably dowing Brazil and then getting UK to DoW you and transfering EIC so someone cuts you down to size and capitulate to the cut down before enforcing on Brazil/UK.

Yeah, setting the primary war target as the province that cuts off access to the country in the south can help a lot to make sure that that war doesn't peace out before yours.

It's pretty important to occupy the state that holds the front between Brazil and their southern war, in order to prevent them from pushing and enforcing.

So 4000 shopkeepers x 0.05 =200 IPT (base) (100 IPT traditionalism) 800 Capitalists x 0.20 = 160 IPT (base) (80 IPT traditionalism) After Laissez-Faire (25% boost to IPT) Shopkeep 250 IPT Capitalist 200 IPT
@generalistgaming
@generalistgaming Жыл бұрын
The amount that is determined is based on dividends, not some fixed value, and having more shopkeepers doesn't increase their dividends in a multiplicative way. When you have shopkeepers they split the dividends across more pops, each of those giving 5%. If I have dividends of 500 and 500 shopkeepers each will get 1 dividend and contribute .05 leading to a total contribution of 25. If I get a dividend of 500 w/ 100 capitalists each will get 5 and contribute 20% (not including modifiers) for a total contribution of 100.

@@generalistgaming So once again Paradox makes something completely nonsensical in an effort to be clever...or to prevent players from actually spamming economies of scale. After all if adding more capitalists instead further divides up the dividend pie then you actually get less in IPT thus making the whole point of building more fisheries very pointless. Hmm, that makes me wonder if building up the dividend scale is based on market share making exports and domestic consumption more important than simply adding more ruler jobs.
@generalistgaming
@generalistgaming Жыл бұрын
? I'm not sure what you're getting at here. When you build another fishery you get more capitalists to split the money amongst, but also an additional level w/ more inputs/outputs, (generally) increasing dividends. When you swap to using the shopkeepers owners you don't get an additional level of building. EoS is still good.

@@generalistgaming Ok. So New buildings/businesses = new revenue/dividend pies. Thank you for informing me. As for the second apologies for not being clear. If I was to switch my ownership of say a tea plantation from private owned (100 aristocrats) to publicly traded (100 aristocrats, 50 capitalists) would that grow my IPT or make it worse? Not including any economic buffs/maluses as that always skew the numbers.

For the central asian regions they need to own the non chinese parts of central asia if I remember correctly.
