I love the lead couple but Tianqi came in like a wrecking ball and changed my bias lol I really wanted him to at least not suffer from unrequited love most especially because of his unbridled loyalty from the beginning to end for Shanggu and Houchi. Tianqi has taught me the meaning of loyalty but C-Dramas give us heartache with our second leads. I am seriously crying... no weeping in caps lock mandarin lol but this drama was worth my tears and laughter.

The actor always plays a bad character, like in Love and Redemption, and in Noble Aspirations. I was afraid that Tianqi would eventually become Bai Jue's arch enemy. I am soooooo glad he remained loyal to both Shanggu and Bai Jue to the end. I absolutely love his character. And it made me like the actor even more now.

@@MaiChristy, tell me about it. Liu Xue Yi is super versatile. He is so extraordinary as an antagonist that you end up hating loving the roles that he brings out. I know that is an oxymoron, but have you ever watched a show where the antagonist makes your blood 'boil' because of how evil they are, but you end up appreciating their role? Lol, I don't; know if I am making any sense! I mean, this guy plays evil characters often, and so well I might add that I end up appreciating him for it, so it was unexpected when his role in Ancient Love Poetry transitioned to a protagonist. He brought out almost all emotions from me; amongst others, his humour was infectious. Let me not even get started on his pettiness when it comes to Shanngu/Houchi that broke the monotony of the drama. Nevertheless, amongst the many intriguing plots attached to Tian Qi/Jing Yuan's character, it was his loyalty that truly touched me. We live in a society where everything is fast and fleeting. Loyalty is scarce, and when you receive it, you hold on to it like a celestial treasure and show reciprocity to the one who gave it. This trait is ubiquitous in most Asian Dramas; though sometimes misplaced (think of Wu Huan's husband Muguang, maid, older son and daughter, etc.), it is still a powerful force. (Pardon my long-essay-of-a-text)

I see your point, but they can't like be together (aside from the fact that bai jue did so much more for her), but Tianqi's character has his own arc with Yuemi in another novel.
