That's what I miss so much on railway lines in Belgium, Germany, UK to name a few, since the demise of all first generation diesels. One could stand at the trackside in the Belgian Ardennes on a cold freezing night and hear the trains aproaching half an hour in advance from when they entered the steepest part of that line still 10 miles away. I can imagine this when winter strikes this part of China,the sound of the train can be heard even better than it already does in this video. Nice to put the complete "just for the sound" video on KZbin.

Wow I heard the whole video in headphones and I heard each and every single sound. 1. Barking dog sound. 2. Talking man sound. 3. DF8B BEAST SOUND..... Plz listen this using headphones.....

Indeed... ;-) I must say I'm very pleased with the new microphone by the way (Rode Stereo Videomic), it records the very deep sounds very good too, certainly those you can hear when the train is still far away... :-)

@maijin2006 To be honest, when I made the first plans to return here after the end of steam, in August 2007, I was afraid to be disappointed, but thanks to the nice landscape and these great unsilenced beasts I wasn't! :-) The Jingpeng Pass turned out to be changed into another kind of attraction... After providing the best steam show on earth, it's now - in my opinion - one of the best diesel lines in the world, certainly for those who - like me - enjoy unsilenced diesels... :-)

@maijin2006 Actually, if you stand at a position like this, just above the exhausts of the diesels, and close to the track, the sound is really deafening when two of such hard working DF8B's pass by, really unbelievable... :-0 Last month when I was here again, I took a friend with me for who it was the first time to visit China, and the expression on his face when he heard the first train here was really unforgettable too... :-D
