What a great way to spend some time, and what a kick you must get out of that hobby. I bet it's a bit like getting away for a bit of fishing and some peace and quiet.

Thanks for this video. I visited Yowah about ten years ago, I only had limited time there because I had to get back to work, but I loved my visit there. There was some beautiful colour in the jar

4:24 Mate I reckon if I found something that beautiful, I'd be hooked for life. Maybe it's not worth a lot, IDK, but it's so cool.

🤣 mate that's all it takes to get hooked. One find no matter how valuable it is. And the more you do it, the more you learn and the better quality you find and the more hooked you become

Nice, what type of detector do you have? Im doing a detecting trip out to warwick sometime in the next month or so. Ill be comparing a gold detector to a metal detector and doing a bit of sniping along the way.

@@goingwalkabout6282 oh I only have a Minelab vanquish 440.... Its not a big machine and Im only learning surface sounds and relearning some geology. I pulled out my old Field guide to australian rocks, minerals and gemstones and ordered another with pretty pictures. As I only have a 2 wheel drive im limited on spots for now, but theres enough spots to practise with. One day I want to buy a bigger machine to get more serious about, in the mean time I watch lots of videos.

@@CQuinnLady you should try and get your hands on some test nuggets, bury them at different depths and see how your detector reacts. Also if you're finding it hard to get out to the gold fields, try some local parks or beaches. I find a lot of junk at the beaches but there's always the excitement of finding something cool

Hi! Some nice finds you got there! I also wanno go out there but I have no car, any fossicking areas you can reach by foot near yowah (or lighning ridge) that are not overrun by tourists?
@goingwalkabout6282
@goingwalkabout6282 2 жыл бұрын
I can't speak for lightning ridge as I've never been. It is on the list of places to visit this year though. The fossicking area at yowah is well within walking distance from the campgrounds. The pile there gets worked a lot but you can always try digging for yowah nuts or shallow occurring opal. There are stories of opal occurring quite shallow in parts of the designated area, next time I'm out there my plan is to follow up on those.

@@andiwolf3334 if you get out there, or to lightning ridge, remember to keep your eyes down while you walk. The roads, car parks etc are laid with diggings from the mines and its not uncommon to find nice bits of opal in those areas that miners have missed. Good luck 👍

You see people would rather find that one million dollar opal but why do that when you can find a million one dollar opals
