They look awesome! Can't wait to build mine. Are you selling the kit with case/plate?
@Nebulorum2 жыл бұрын
The design looks really interesting. One question that I have is why not use the small 3 pin JST connector instead of header based connectors. Would this also be possible with flexible PCB? That would remove some of the cables and since switches are structural elements it would still function.

What sockets are used In this build? Also, do the sockets come in the kit or is part of the build option service in the store? Thanks!

This kit looks sick. Awesome work. Ever thought about substituting the trackball for the touchpads they use in the Stream Controller? I believe they make them in varying sizes.

@@thomasrogers8136 sure, they are the Glidepoint Circle trackpads by Cirque.

Hi there, i jumped over from bastardkb and was wondering when you will have the Charybdis restocked? I've been waiting and subbed for a update but my RSI is killing me

Fantastic work as always, and the cirque trackpad definitely seems an interesting addition! I assume it's running via i2c?

@@bastardkb Yes it's great stuff - I've recently had some of the v2 shields made, I built a skeletyl before but I was using Teensy 2.0 and perfboard it wasn't very neat so looking forward to building something with elite Cs and perhaps will try out the trackpad too :) Thanks again for the amazing work!

Any chance if you could do it in smaller keycaps?

Quick question: key switches are very close to ridges, especially on the central column where middle finger sits, are switch removing tools able to get into the tight space and get switches out ?

How much is the bare minimum cost for a prebuild Charybdis Nano by you? Just to get a rough idea on the range of these prebuilds, not going to hold you to it of course.

Where can we get that trackball PCB?
29 күн бұрын
Hi! Just starting to build my premium-like Charybdis! I bought the kit from your page except trackball, prints and rgb and I got 14 m4 inserts and screws (webpage said 12, thanks for the extras), but I have a problem. Since I'm kinda replicating the premium version I have plates both between the keyboard and the tent, as well as under the tent. But I would need another 6 inserts and screws for that. I'm a bit confused, are the bottom plates not an official part of the design?
@bastardkb28 күн бұрын
Hey! The plate tents require additional inserts, and M4x8mm as well as M4x6mm screws. If you got the premium kit, those are included. If you got the regular kit, that configuration is not supported and you'll need to source them yourself. Hope that helps!

What is your case printed with, and how much postprocessing did you do? I printed mine with galaxy prusament PLA and the bottom of mine that required supports doesn't look nearly as nice! Planning to finish the build soon after much procrastinating, so perfect timing with this video

I like it a lot, its posible to made a easy version whiout track ball and the pcb whiltout diodes like the ferris sweep ?
@bastardkb11 ай бұрын
For the trackball-less version, check out the skeletyl on our github ! I tinkered a bit with the idea of no diodes, but it means a lot more wiring towards the splinky shield PCB, and also a completely different design, so I gave up on it. At the moment I'm working on designs that you can order SMD assembled, they are on pre-release on github !

What rp2040 dev board is that? :O

@bastardkb Very cool - the build quality on those plastic parts and PCBs is amazing, as well as your attention to every detail! But after using handwired Dactyl-Manuform for couple of years now - I'd say the internals should be enclosed somehow. The dirt and grime that keyboard usually gets in daily use, is much harder to clean from those little nooks and crannies. And if the MCU is exposed, it's much more prone to coffee-spill - which is guaranteed to happen at some time :)
@bastardkb Жыл бұрын
Thank you ! Until now I've had no issues with dust, and didn't hear reports. It's part of the style of the keyboard as well. We did have some cases of ESD damaging the serial pin, the RP2040 is more sensitive to it. On our prebuilts now and on the dilemma we added a chip to protect from that. If you drop coffee on it though there's probably no saving it :D

this is insane how is it worth it to hand solder all those leds and (diodes?) surely getting them done by a pick and place machine is not that expensive.

I suppose it's fairly easy to do a wireless nice!nano build of a Skeletyl, TBK Mini orScylla as it's just a few rows and colums. But what about a nice!nano version of Charybdis (nano)? I'm using a Iris right now and want to step up to something dactyl like with a trackball an no wires, my god those wires drive me crazy.

@@bastardkb thanks for the reply Quentin! I'm still new to doing it all myself. I'm fine with soldering but designing a board and such is still a bit much. Keep up the great work! It's much needed! 🙂

You do not need a cordless screwdriver for this kind of work. You risk breaking things.

We've been using cordless electric screwdrivers as well as makitta powertools for 4 years now on all keyboard assemblies. Because of the quantities we do it saves a lot of time
