Could you please tell What those rotaries for ? And what means MX and Choc for rotary options on the website
@bastardkb18 күн бұрын
The MX and Choc rotary encoders have different heights to accomodate the difference in MX and choc profile. For the encoders (credit to casuanoob on discord): volume up/down mousewheel scroll pageup/pagedown caret scrolling (text cursor movement) arrow keys (partial overlap with previous) undo/redo shortcuts incremental inputs like RGB Hue/Sat/Val/Speed keycodes other repeatable inputs like zoom shortcuts anything you want to spam (same reason some speedrunners often bind jump or similar things to scroll wheel) (half joke) doing mouse movement like an etch-a-sketch play sound voltex don't need extra tucky thumb key, so why not stick a knob there tab/shift-tab (basic tab/window swapping) actual window swapping implementation (alt/cmd tabber)

Hi. Nice work. I would like to try to build a sensor board based on your drawing. Can I ask you one question? Can resistors R2 and R3 just be omitted? They don't need to be replaced with jumpers(0Ω)? In the Github photo, R3 is not installed, but R2 is in its place. Thanks a lot for your work!
@bastardkb20 күн бұрын
If you get a fixed 2.0V AP7331, you don't need R2 and R3. If you get an adjustable one, you need the resistors to set the output voltage.

The shift, alt, and other modifier buttons are on the keymap - either on the 6th column or on homerow mods (on 3x5 keyboards). You can press them at the same time as the mouse button, the keymap is made that way. You can check out the default keymaps here: docs.bastardkb.com/fw/default-keymaps.html

We use Prusament Galaxy Black PLA, printed at 0.15mm on QUALITY profile on a MK3s printer. For the thumb cluster, you may want to try the skeletyl one as it's positioned differently, or a flat keyboard like the Dilemma.

Hi! Just starting to build my premium-like Charybdis! I bought the kit from your page except trackball, prints and rgb and I got 14 m4 inserts and screws (webpage said 12, thanks for the extras), but I have a problem. Since I'm kinda replicating the premium version I have plates both between the keyboard and the tent, as well as under the tent. But I would need another 6 inserts and screws for that. I'm a bit confused, are the bottom plates not an official part of the design?
@bastardkb3 ай бұрын
Hey! The plate tents require additional inserts, and M4x8mm as well as M4x6mm screws. If you got the premium kit, those are included. If you got the regular kit, that configuration is not supported and you'll need to source them yourself. Hope that helps!

It would be cool if the rotary encoder could also be soldered to "LWR" position. I personally like some others use space bar on the left of "b" on flat keyboards and of the right of "b" on tinted keyboards. And I always need a key on both sides of the space bar. I really like the rotary encoders on my Iris keyboard, I would really like to order this one with the rotary encoders. Question number two, is it crazy to imagine that a second trackpad on the left could be an option to the rotary encoders. It could be used like a rotary encoder but with gestures instead (e.g up -> down: volume change, left -> right: screen brightness, bottom -left-> top-right: change desktop, or scroll up and down while using the right on to move the cursor), it may be impossible with that hardware but this could be a new keyboard after thousands of hours of works. Anyway this is a nice product, I am definitely ready to buy one but the rotary encoder situation keeps me away from buying it.
@bastardkb4 ай бұрын
Right now the only footprints for rotary encoders is where they are placed on the video. While we don't officially support double trackpads, you could install one on the left as well - you will need to mirror the 3d printed holder, and modify the firmware. There is already a custom gesture implemented on the default keymap (dragscroll, which transforms the trackpad as a scroll wheel when a specific key is held). It shouldn't be too difficult to map other custom gestures to some shortcuts (I've also seen caret mode, which moves the typing caret using the trackpad/trackball). Thank you for the kind words!

This is so close to my perfect keyboard but I have 2 gripes: A lack of dedicated f-keys, and no option for an injection molded chasis. I was contemplating buying a prebuilt, but at the price point, a 3d print chasis is not acceptable
@bastardkb5 ай бұрын
Thank you! The f-keys are on a layer. You can see the default keymap here: github.com/Bastardkb/bastardkb-qmk/tree/bkb-master/keyboards/bastardkb/charybdis/4x6/keymaps/via#layout We don't offer injection molded parts for a few reasons: - molds require to follow very specific design guidelines, and you are limited in the design you can make. In our experience, those limitations were too much - molds also require a huge initial investment - we are a small independent design studio and don't have that kind of scale (keep in mind, we have a lot of different models as well....) - we iterate on our models pretty frequently, to refine them as we get user feedback. This is not possible with molds We designed the cases from the ground up to be 3d printed, and worked extensively on our print parameters to ensure we have the best quality available on the market out there. This also means that they're printable by DIYers, without need to get the case from us directly if they have a 3d printer at home / local lab. If you are interested in a more premium option, we have nylon printed cases in our premium charybdis nano kit on the shop. You can also of course order those on eg. JLC3D yourself.

Hey! I'm using this keyboard for a few years now. We have some thousands of users also who have given good feedback, and the design is based on the dactyl manuform which also has... quite some users. The kinesis advantage is also a popular design. There's no proper scientific research into keyboards with keywells, but there is however a lot of feedback of people getting their RSI lowered by it. If you have access to a 3d printer you could maybe print one of the keyboards and try it yourself!

When using our boards with an angle (in this video we use 30 degree 3d printed tents, but you may also use eg. magnet tripods), we recommend floating hands. There's also a feature where you can make circles on the outer part of the trackpad to scroll. On the shop we only offer trackpad on the right, but the PCB is designed to accomodate one on the left as well - you'll need to reverse the trackpad holder 3d files and make a custom QMK firmware.
