One way sync for me! With versionin history for ransonware hopefully.. And I'm hoping to do connect and pull for that sync from the backup NAS sitting on a more trusted VLAN, across to the primary NAS on its own DMZ. But this is nonetheless illuminating, thanks. Because it looks like I can set RTRR server on the less-trusted primary NAS and connect across to it from the more-trusted VLAN/NAS and pull my sync down. I like the fact that I can use an RTRR-specific account, so it has no permissions to log into the NAS or even use standard SMB3 or any of those services. Great! Now all I need to figure out is how to allow an RTRR connection across a firewall from IP1/Subnet1 to IP2/Subnet2. Is there a way to only allow a certain number of file changes (say 25) per sync job, otherwise it has to wait for next sync? And to alert me if it uses all 25? My data set doesn't change much.

Thanks for the walkthrough - quick one: is this also the recommended approach if I have a video editor remote who needs raw data to work with? Getting him a small QNAP NAS and have my office NAS sync the parts he needs locally? Or is there better tools you'd recommend?

Thanks for the tutorial. It works well as long as you synchronize data stored on the default shared folders. But how can I synchronize a user shared folder ? Backup job is supposed to be setup by an administrators who are not allowed to access any user shared folder ? Thanks for your help

Thanks for the tutorial. I don't succees in setting it up, so far. Probably something is overlooked, that also must beset correctly. I have a TS-453A with QTS 5.0.0 and a TS-419Pii with QTS 4.3.3. I have setup the RTRR server with default settings on the TS-419Pii (192.168.8.20 port 8899), but the TS453A (192.168.8.21) says, it cannot connect to the TS-419Pii. The TS-453A has 2 ports (truncing) connected via a virtual switch. The password is correct and both are in the same LAN segment, and both have Qsync connected and SMB/CIFS connected using the same respective IP-adresses. The connection log of the TS-419Pii does show my admin login, but no signs from any failed attempt to login from HBS to connect to the RTRR server. I assume something is wrong on the TS-453A. Can you help me, please?

I'm trying to put my ts-131p at home online with a 8tb desktop HD plugged in as a cloud backup for my ts-231k at my print shop. I'm having trouble and I think it might be my home router (Eero mesh) but I've done it before I can't figure it out though.

Using it now to transfer from my old NAS to my new one, why does it convert to a gdff file and not my original files, do I need to convert on my new NAS to view,My new Nas is the TS-H886,Thank you

Getting ready to pick up a TVS-872X to backup my TVS-h1288x. I want to backup my TVS-h1288 to the 872X. My plan is to run about once a week and have the 872X powered off when not backing up. Can I do a one way backup from h1288x to the 872X where any changes are reflected in the backup to the 872X? Example if I delete a file on h1288x it will be deleted on the 872X, or if I change a file on the h1288x it will be changed on the 872X? Thank you love you youtube it has been helpful.

Real Time Sync is not a good option for backup. If the main file is deleted or currupted will you be missing the coppy at the same time.

@@QNAPUK how would you go about this: I bought the h1288x to get the benefit of zfs. And was going to back up my 8 drive 872xt to it. Then use the h1288x as the production since it has more horsepower. But my qts had a single volume and the quts uses shared folders like virtual drives. Thin and thick clients. How would you back it up to the quts. The HBS3 doesnt transfer to the quts and make new shared folders from the qts it wants me to add it to an existing folder on the quts. Or would you make one quts shared folder and call it datavol and share to it. (That may work, now that i think about it for the following question. Do i make the individual folders and shared the contents into these new shared folder from the qts folders? Would that be the beat solution? And my second question is how would you do a proper backup back to the qts? My plan was to have the 872xt wake up once every 2 weeks or a month and see differences in files and only backup changes. I think i would have to delete the original files on the 872xt after copying them over and just let the quts figure out how it wants it to be backed up. Kinda thinking i should put the quts on qts but then i loose zfs which i think would be awesome. I’d gain qtier but my 872xt doesnt have the additional 2.5” drives. Thanks
