QRD Spark N5 Wireless Controller for PS4: Hall Sensor, Macros, RGB and more!

One can't deny that this controller is certainly feature-packed, between user-selectable RGB, hall sensor sticks & triggers, user-mappable macros and top-tier compatibility, it's hard to not see the value in this product? What about you, do feel inclined to get one to use on your gaming devices? 😄

I bought one of these controllers to be my main PS3 controller and I have to admit that, so far, I am impressed with it. The extra features like the programmable rear buttons and the turbo are very welcome as there aren't really any 'pro' controllers for the PS3. Performance wise the controller does OK, although only the R and L triggers are progressive i.e. the signal they send is greater the harder you press the button (on the OEM controller all of the buttons are like that). The analog sticks work well but they do a strange thing when the controller is first powered on in that both sticks seem to have a limited range - a couple of full rotations of both sticks clockwise and anti-clockwise seems to fix this. Build quality is good and battery life is really good. Rumble is weaker than the OEM controller and I've yet to fully try out the 6-axis functionality. It will be interesting to see how this controller holds up in the long term, but as an alternative to the Sony PS3 controller I do recommend it.

I can definitely see how that would be a phenomenal controller for PS3, as it is for PS4. There were so few games that used the pressure sensitive buttons of the PS3 but that is indeed a feature of the time. When I tested it, gyro worked flawlessly so I think you'll come to find the same. Do you lnow how is the latency connection of that controller ??

It's been flawless for me. I don't have a high-speed camera to measure the exact numbers but I'm extremely sensitive to latency and usually, it takes little to none for me to feel that difference. I am confidently backing my claim that this is latency free or at least not perceptible at all. In other words, wired with radios turned off or through bluetooth was consistent on every device I personally tested.

@@GameTechTalk it’s hated in basically every corner of the competitive gaming community but it does give you the ability to do what i’ve mentioned before. made by the same company who did the “Strike Pack” and “Xim”. it’s like a little thing you connect to your console or pc that allows you to script in games/cheat but it’s not like you are forced to, you could just not use any scripts and use it as a “translator” of sorts

I used to be a categorical hater of symmetrical analogs but it grew on me over time. I like them both equally now and in some game types, I have slight preferences. I wouldn't trade the DualSense for any controller in the world when playing Spider-Man 2 though.

@@geenaxion Ahh that D-Pad.. I think QRD weren't too happy with me on my joke in the video. I laughed so much making that one and thought it was great. The D-Pad itself is great. Center pivot and all, it's a solid design choice they made all in all. The only gripe I have, which I repeat a fair amount in the video is that the plastic of the D-Pad and the shell itself feel exactly the same and personally, I'm not a fan of their decision. I spoke with a rep that told me they made a conscious decision with the plastic they chose, I have all the respect for them for having done some research on the subject but yeah, to me, focus points on controllers benefit from different materials to differentiate them. It's my only con, the rest is great.

When wired, it shows up as Xbox, when wireless, it shows up as Dualshock 4.

Yeah since making the video, I saw that hall sensor stick mods are available on AliExpress. Honestly, beyond the Hall Sensor, which don't get me wrong is great, the controller has a lot to offer besides it. It's a solid product, especially if you are looking for a PS4 controller, and/or PC/iOS/Android controller. I'd say the more platforms you intend to use it on, the more worth it becomes. But if your need is primarily a PC controller for example, there is better out there. What would be your main use-case for getting this controller vs. modding one you already have?

I only have great things to say on that front. I tested wired and using bluetooth and in both cases, I had no perceptible latency. I did some of those tests with games I knew I'd be more sensitive to and nothing. Now, these tests can differ from so many factors, how much radio interference does one have in the vicinity, the compatibility with other devices and whatnot. But as far as the electronics on-board, I believe the QRD Spark N5 to be well built, well designed and have no glaring issues that causes latency problems and/or interference ones. The Turbo function enables "rapidfire" on button push, or even without. It also is used to set some things on the controller like rumble motors strength. 6:58 shows you rumble settings. Cheers!

I haven't tested such a feature on that product and truth be told, I wasn't necessarily keen on prioritizing this product as a wired PC controller. Not that it's bad, just that there is better for less. So I couldn't quite tell you if it does successfully, and if it does what the polling rate is, my apologies.

What are the bumpers like on this controller? I keep running into issues with breakages with controllers that use a similar bumper style to that of the xbox one/series controllers.

Shape wise, they are nearly identical to the Series X controller, so if by issues, you mean that you feel discomfort? I doubt it'll be any different here. If we are talking about reliability and functionality, then these are completely different, for starters, the QRD does not have the haptic rumble in the triggers that Xbox One and Series controllers have but also, QRD uses hall sensor technology, so in terms of reading, of precision, the QRD far exceeds the Xbox controllers, specifically when talking about triggers degradation which will take a considerably longer time on the QRD.

Hey how did u solve the heating issue with the new iphone? I am trying to find a controller which can still allow to put a magsafe cooler onto my iphone 15 pro max while beeing hold by the controller clip

I have not because I have yet to experience any. This is due for a future video but to be absolutely honest, I barely tried to push it beyond that overheating issue, I was under the impression that it was fixed from the little testing that I have done but I wasn't using any specific case at the time too. Do you think it might be caused by something you put over the phone?

@@GameTechTalk Not Sure what caused it but its the Same heating issue you can find in whole KZbin when searching gaming information about the iPhone 15 pro. Apple also said the issue can be fixed by an Update which came a few ours ago. But i already heard from people still having heating issues post update with simply scrolling through insta..

For now i think im good with my ps4 Controller and a cheap clip to combine it with my Phone. I also have an old powerbank i can use to power the setup while traveling. I hope the heating issue is simply solved by the Apple updates! ✌️

Dang, I'm gonna have to investigate this, because the 14 Pro Max, the 13 Pro Max both were overheating mess, the throttling would come in, the screen would dim... I thought them not tapping into the full power increase of going from 4nm to 3nm was to prevent heat issues, and that titanium was used for that as well. What a big pile of mess this is if it still overheats.... How are we even expected to run Resident Evil on this phone... Terrible. Thanks for the info!

@@GameTechTalk as far as i know Resident evil will be more optimized than Games from the App Store. But im far away from being a pro haha. Iirc they anounced that the new A17(?) chip is working way too hard in the problematic Apps Like insta etc. and this causes the heat issues.. lets see what apple can fix with updates.
