I DJ’d my first wedding with two k 10.2s and two ks112s. I was very impressed with the sound output out of this setup. I do mostly smaller events with one ks112 sub and it’s more than enough. Sub placement is key.

Awesome man-glad to hear and congrats on the wedding, I hope you pursue it and book some more. I like the setup with the 10.2's, I think those would complement the ks112 perfectly. I've never used or heard 2 ks112's together, did you mount the 10.2's on top of the subs? I agree on the smaller gigs and venues-1 ks112 is totally sufficient-never had a complaint. Again, not earth-shaking but definitely fills in the right amount of bass on the dancefloor.

@@vasili55 I want to throw in my two cents. I began working in sound in 1978 as a teenager and learned from some giants in the industry. In all of my time on the road, I never saw subs split. They were always together and always in the middle of the floor. Never on stage, never flying, never to the left or right. John McBride explained to me once that sub frequencies travel along floors and walls and run to corners, so you never want them emanating from different locations. He is the best sound engineer I have ever witnessed as he ran FOH for his wife Martina.

Yes, I love that idea! The cp12s are so versatile, I rented them and used them once and I think you could do a lot of gigs with those alone. I paired it with 1 ks112 in a small venue, a restaurant and it was perfect. I think having a compact setup is the way to go right now and for the near future. People are doing smaller events and its tough to bring large speakers to a small event, just doesn't look great. I did a wedding in a (small) tent and I only brought 2 k12.2s and it was awkward, just didn't look good, the cp12's or 10's would've worked just fine. I have 2 older JBL Eon 518 Subwoofers and was looking to upgrade to the QSC KS118 but then I started thinking at 65 lbs I can actually carry the JBLs solo and actually walk them quite easily up and down stairs if needed they don't have casters but are pretty light for their size, the QSCs are 100lbs but they come with casters and you can stack other equipment on them and roll them in so I only will need to lift them one time in and out the truck unless I run into the stairs problem when I may have to carry them up some stairs so I'm kind of thinking maybe not a good idea to upgrade, but at the same time the KS118 will out do both of my Subs so maybe just need one but I have a problem with wanting that nice symmetrical 2 sub set up I hate these types of decisions. If only they weighed 40 lbs less then it would be a no brainer. Years Ago I made the mistake of buying these huge Community subs that were 4 15" subs in a huge cabinet LOL what was I thinking? LOL My smaller subs are more powerful now and the QSC KW181 and the KS118 blow those out the water as well One will do it for now I did a 70th Birthday in Seattle Washington and rented the QSC KW181 with two k12s V1 and that was great I run two K12s original versions and they do great solo even without the subs, with the JBL subs they rock almost any venue at even half volume I know first hand the W=QSC's have better sound and stronger bass and I understand the KS118 should be even better but at that point it is just massive sound, either way, LOL The prices have gone up dramatically though should have bought one when they were only $1000 now most are $1500+. - DJEmir.com and DenversBestDJs.com

I tried all sub. Réflexion is easy ! For dj Ks112 , you need 2 of them cause the power is weak, Ks212 , is powerful, ( one is enough for most of event ) low you feel the really bass not the boom^^ and so particle with high handle K118 a beast but too big to carry, forget it . However if you just do event till 150 pax, take 2 evolve 50 so easy so setup and the sound is almost as good as . For the money or 2 sub and 2 speakers, I would consider the Maui 44 g2 which completely destroy all sound system ( in same category of price)

I have the KS212C and i love it but i can’t figure out why it hits limiter at 12 o clock position or below…have changed settings from 80 hz to 100 hz and still has limited out. For anything super bassy that limit light is kicking on. Have never had this happen with my KW181 which i still have. But i was honestly shocked at 3600 watts it should not be limiting out so quickly or even at below 12 o’ clock. I’m usually running my original K10’s linked to the sub w/ext mixer or my CP12’s. Also totally hear you about being compact because it does make a difference-I'm 41 and my thought process has totally shifted when it comes to equipment. You said it right: a lot of bass is amazing but it comes with a price for you and your setup. Not saying you need to ever cut corners but saying that a lot of times-us as the DJ's want that premium bass feel and sound and there's nothing wrong with that, but the reality is that it can be too much for some gigs and venues. At the end of the day as a mobile DJ-your job is to entertain and create the atmosphere/energy and the majority of the audience are not audiophiles and won't walk away saying "wow I wish there was more bass" lol. You will like the 118 better, the other 99% there won't know if it's the 118 or 181. I guess my objective here is to save someone money but it does depend what you currently have or don't have. I appreciate the comment and I should probably do a more current review on this-it's overdue. I'm glad to hear you mention the 118 and 181's aren't practical. They're amazing and ideally we'd have a venue or place that for those but the reality with smaller venues and parties (currently), it's just a lot to bring. I'm doing a house party next week and even 1 of my k12.2's is too big lol. I think there is a real value in getting a micro setup and I think that's where you're question of the 112 vs 212 comes into play. My personal opinion would be #1, keep renting until you're booked out to the point of it being a hassle to pick up and drop off rented equipment. Subs don't hold good resell values so until you forecast your future bookings and find your sweet spot to where the sub is paid off, then just rent. This is going to be different for everyone but I always encourage renting and putting your money towards DJ pools, marketing, etc. LASTLY (lol on my long tangent), I personally would skip the 212. It does sound better than the the 112 obviously but I'm in the mindset of a micro-setup and a "non-microsetup". As a QSC guy, my micro has the CP8 and the 112 (small venue obviously). I will be honest though in the thought that I've looked at the EV 30m. The non-micro then has the 12.2s and either the 181's or (1) 118. I personally like a pair of 181's or I'm good with a single 118. So-back to your question: hard pass for me on the 212. You want to be able to go up or down, not really in the middle and that's where I put the 212-go big or smaller. Let me know your thoughts.

@sephystar 3 жыл бұрын
@@djbeachkng8931 thank you for the great insight! I agree that renting is the way to go for the 181 or 118 for now since we don’t do large events enough to purchase. Do you think that the 112 is better than the Ksub? As I mentioned before, the ksub worked perfect for most of our gigs and I wanted to get a second set up for another one of our DJ’s for the dates we are double booked. If the 112 is better or at least as good as the ksub, I’ll lean towards that. I should add that our usual setup is with a set of 10.2’s and one ksub. For larger events we would use 12.2’s and one or 2 181’s depending on the size of the event. For the most part 10.2’s and the ksub has been working perfect for us. There were some events where the venue asked to reduce the bass but there was never a time when I received a comment that there wasn’t enough bass. We do primarily weddings that range from 50 to 250 people but I’ve found that the ksub works because the loud bass is usually only during the open dance time and focused on the dance floor which is usually averages about 50-70 people. I’ve actually noticed that when we have the 181’s the older guests tend to leave when open dance starts because it’s too loud and travels farther. I figured the 212 would be the sweet spot for having one in between the ksub and 181 in case we need a little more bump. However a huge factor for our DJ’s is portability which is making me rethink the 112.

I will say this, the 112 replaced the ksub so if you're comparing those, I think its a bit of a lateral move. The 112 has a lower frequency and is around 10lbs or so lighter so that's a plus. Portability is king in my books so I personally stick to the 112 or up to a 181 or 118. No real need for a middle ground, that's what the k10's will do provide for you. The k10's will give that midrange that you don't get with the column speakers so the 10.2's and a ksub or 112 gets the job done. On a different note: I'm about to record a new video on my newest setup: my micro-setup. I have been showing up lately to small parties and I only have 12.2's so it's been major overkill. I decided to go with the QSC CP8's and my ks112--such a versatile setup and opens new doors to show a smaller package to people and also not lug in a ton of equipment for a small backyard party. The CP8 I will use as a booth monitor and also I have an external battery to use it at ceremonies. Obviously I'm a QSC guy so I'm excited about this but overall--my biggest thing was getting a micro-system so now I'm pretty set to play to any size event that I do--I'm a small time guy here. You have the 10.2's which is great but I'm telling, I've been very impressed pairing my CP8's with the 112 sub. It's a clean setup also.

@@djbeachkng8931 I love the 10.2’s because they are super versatile. I think you convinced me to go with the 112 mostly because of the portability. I’ve been eyeing the 212 for a while but the pure fact that it’s larger and heavier than the ksub is a negative for me. Thanks for the feedback and looking forward to your next video!

I really appreciate your video, review, and time. Just starting out and looking to buy my own speakers. I heard the k12.2's at a wedding I was videoing a while back and knew they had the sound quality I wanted. I plan on only doing smaller stuff in the beginning, maybe working up to weddings... I was thinking about the pair of k12's with a single 118 to start and then maybe adding another down the road (I love the look of the tops over the ubs on poles, but they are pricey). Do you every do any gigs with just the 12's and no sub? How do you feel they handle a room?
@djbeachkng8931
@djbeachkng8931 3 жыл бұрын
My best advice from this comment: “just starting out”-RENT a sub. Do not buy a sub until you’re booking in advance or you’ll spend a bunch of money and just sit on it. SPEND your money on quality tops. I have 12.2s and I love them. Don’t skimp on the tops or get enticed by cheap prices at guitar center. The only 2 regrets I’ve had on equipment I purchased was the first 2 tops I ever bought, they were cheap Altos and I got what I paid for. Did one event with them, returned them, and shelled out the money for the QSCs and never once regretted that. Other regret was buying my first sub, I used it a couple times over a long period starting out and then it was old and didn’t hold great value selling it used. Every DJ and venue is different but you can do a lot of gigs with 2 quality tops, no sub. There’s obvious ones you want/need subs but a lot of parties are totally sufficient with the tops in my opinion. Hold onto your money until you’re confident you’re going to make something happen, if not this will just become an expensive but fun hobby lol.

I do have a question do you this with a pair of ks112 and a pair of k10.2 could you be able to fill a room with 250 peeps? Inquiring minds would like to know. I am a one man company. Looks easy to get in and out. Really like that. Thanks again! Peace!

Thanks for watching--I'm in the same boat as you as you so I totally get it. I do love the idea of the 10.2's paired with the ks112. I have 12.2s and it works well with the ks112 but I think it will complement the 10.2s even better and also keep that compact size while packing a punch. On a room with 250 people: short answer is yes it will be sufficient but keeping in mind your bass will really be targeted on/around the dancefloor. It just doesn't carry as far as the kw181 but I also think that has it's pros and cons as well. Those that want the bass and want to dance will be up around you/dancefloor and those that don't sit back at tables and can have their conversations. Overall, I think you will be GOLDEN having a pair of the ks112's and 10.2s. You won't kill yourself loading and unloading either which at the end of the day is important. Let me know if you do it but I'd 100% recommend this setup you're talking about.

Thanks man--I don't claim to be an expert sound engineer but I spend a lot of doing research plus just listening/demo-ing speakers/equipment in general. The short answer to your question about the brands is no, you can use EV tops with a QSC sub. The only thing I'd suggest on this is staying with the "same lines of quality"-midrange tops with a midrange sub etc. Comparable brands would be a better way to put this since they would be similar products. On a more technical note, sometimes the specs on the crossover point are done for you suggested within the same brand family but this isn't a deal-breaker, you can figure this out by just listening. What JBL equipment do you use and do you love it? I've never used/owned JBL.

Yes I have (2) k12.2's and (1) ks112 and I've used this setup in a small gym, small bar/restaurant and it's been great/sufficient. It's not earthshaking bass but it definitely fills in a lot of that low end I don't have by just running the two tops. I haven't personally heard the 212c in a "live" setting outside of a guitar center so I can't speak to it but I can agree with you 100% on the way it sounds on the dancefloor which is why I went with the ks112. I'm sure depending on the acoustics and room placement, the 212 will fill in more and carry further but in the end-that's not my goal. The goal was to make that impact on the dancefloor while having the most compact, portable setup and that's what I'm achieving with the 112. I set it up right in front of me, behind my facade, all in a straight line with the tops on each side. Can't go wrong with this setup. Again--is it perfect or is it making the liquid ripple in peoples drinks lol--not necessarily but it sounds clean. Plus that 212 was just as heavy and a pain to lift/transport as an 18" sub so I really just don't see the value in it, personally. Thanks for watching and the comment! I'll be using this setup on NYE for a private event in a small restaurant and I'll video it to show how effective it really is. For that particular venue, much more than that would just be unnecessary.

@@EE-uy3wz Awesome man, so you bought the 112? I use 80 hz on the 112 because that's what the manual says the K.2 series is optimized for. When I use the KW181's I have it at 100hz. I honestly don't notice a difference anyways lol, I just followed the manual. You should grab a short film of your setup and a quick summary after your gig giving some info on the ks112. I really didn't see enough "real" reviews out there on this sub and I think it needs more DJ reviews as opposed to companies reviewing it--they're reselling them, not actually using them so the reviews are informative, but I know I'd rather hear it from someone else thats in the trenches with me. Overall, you'll be happy with the setup and good luck on your gig!

You're right-I didn't mention the KS212 which I did demo but I was looking at 2 categories: a 12" compact sub and a heavier 18" sub. The reason I didn't consider the ks212 is because it's just as big and heavy as an 18" and it's not as deep and punchy as a single 18" sub in my opinion. The ks212 is 90lbs, almost the same as the kw181. At the time of this, the ks212 is $1,500 and so is the ks118, both rated at 3,600 watts. I'd buy the ks118 all day over the ks212. I agree with you and I think the ks212 sounds great, much better than the ks112 but I just felt like it was big and heavy and at that point, I'd rather buy a single 18" sub. Do you have the ks212?

DJ BEACHKNG I had both the KS212cs and the Kw181s, the 12s are for a different application as you mentioned. Small weddings, with my 12s (1 of them you can do a small 120 person wedding indoors and it sounds amazing) and the bass is focused on the dance floor. With my Ks212cs I’ve done indoor events wedding especially for 250-280 people and it did a really good jobs. However outdoors is where they suffer sounds, they sounds good at close proximity but from far way they loss sounds. This is where my Kw181s came in to play. I sold all 4 subs and got 2-KS118s, I’m played them around the house and did a comparison and it’s night in day in my opinion. They hit hard, deeper and from about 50 feet back the bass, you can feel the bass I have a minivan so size is not really a concern. I will be posting a review next month after I play mine for a gig at the end of this month. Look for it in February! Great Personal Review on your opinion of the subs.

@@adamdjxclusivesa8191 Hey--thanks so much for this comment--thats interesting to hear and I have a question for you cause I've been in this same exact boat. I have a ks112, not the 212c and although they're obviously different, my 12 does just fine for a small party with the bass right on the dance floor. You are spot on with it being outdoors, my ks112 just really doesn't do that much for me outdoors which is why I'd really like to get a ks118 to have. In a perfect world I'd have both a single 12" and a pair of 118's so I'd have pretty much every size party that I would actually do covered. Heres my question: what's your opinion on the small wedding, indoor 120ppl event you talked about using a ks118?? Is it too much or can you take the gain down to make it work? I guess I ask because I was looking at just using a single ks118 for everything I do because of the power of the 118 and I'm not doing huge events. I've never extended myself financially with equipment nor do I have a trailer which is why I was always trying to get "the perfect" setup without spending too much and acquiring too much equipment I didn't want to store or haul.

The ks112 IS UNDERPOWERED FOR YOUR KS 12.2. I think the subwoofer goes to 128db peaks which would be suited for a pair of qsc cp8s because you have two of the CP8s at about 124db peaks that would equal to about 127db peaks because to get 3db output loudness you would need double the power so 2000 watts total with 2 CP8S WOULD GIVE YOU ABOUT 127 PEAK.. THEY'RE BASICALLY A PERFECT MATCH FOR EACHOTHER For the k-12.2 I think they output around 132 peaks you definitely need a bigger subwoofer to keep up or 2 ks112..

Agreed 100% and I've actually thought of getting a couple CP8's as a micro setup, just haven't wanted to spend the money quite yet but I agree on 1 ks112 not as a perfect pair or match to the k12.2's but I will say in a small room and setting, I've ran the 12.2's with 1 ks112 and it worked--not saying it was amazing but for the right venue, it's sufficient. Thanks for your input--great points.

@@djbeachkng8931 Well any speaker will work with the ks112 it's just that if you need to use all of the power the ks112 will run out before the 12.2 But if you don't need the power it'll work just fine. But then you're lugging around bigger speakers that you don't need to.. I bought a pair of CP8S basically for my PA system in my studio for bands to be loud enough ( I have my studio monitors also for mixing and mastering ) .. to get to get the CP8S I basically sold my other studio PA speakers the old-school Mackie srm350 V1, along with a big bulky behringer stage monitor. The speakers sold like hotcakes within 3 days.. I have another DJ system that was custom-built for me that I've been using for years that goes from 20 to 20k FLAT PLUS OR MINUS 1.5 DB!!!! THEY ARE AMAZING SPEAKERS!! But because they have that very flat frequency response they're not very efficient so I'm always cranking them to the maxx!! It consists of two 8in speakers made of birch plywood with special cabinet coatings for the top. THEY ARE COAXIAL. TWEETERS ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SPEAKERS ( WHICH IS ACTUALLY THE BEST PLACE FOR TWEETERS ) ESPECIALLY FOR FREQUENCY TIMING!! When you have coaxial speakers you don't need extra electronics to control the timing of the of the frequencies so they hit your ear at the same time at long distance.. Those two speakers weigh about 25lbs a PIECE AND A LITTLE BIT SMALLER THAN THE CP8S BECAUSE YOU DON'T NEED A TWEETER ON TOP!! And then each speaker is paired with a custom subwoofer made of birch plywood the same materials with a special made box. BUT EACH SUBWOOFER WEIGHS ABOUT 60 LBS.. they fit perfectly into any backseat of a car on each seat.. So getting the CP8S WITH ks112 would be a great backup system that would actually be a little bit louder then my custom-made DJ system.. BUT NOT LOUDER IN THE LOW END, BEING FLAT DOWN TO 20 HERTZ IS JUST INSANE.. with the ks 112 you'll be lucky if you get 50 hertz at -6 DB. -6db is big drop off at the low end.. to be honest with you most big subwoofers that PA'S all have this issue because they're trying to make the speaker more efficient and louder. The more efficient the speaker the the more narrow the bandwidth.. it's a trade off. that's why when you see regular speakers in a house or studio monitors the low-end is a lot better just not loud!! I've never had a backup DJ system the one I have has been so reliable. Only carry one subwoofer and those light CP8S sounds like an easy system to live with :)
