Hi Andy and thanks again for this video, the battery capacity is correct and corresponds to the original data. , but honestly I am not convinced by this product. this battery was improperly prepared, improperly tested, before shipping. cell #16 pauses problems, and the cells are never balanced properly.But once again Thank you Andy for this Quality video. 😁👍

A better indication of whether the cells are high quality is do a higher discharge test.0.5c not 0.2. If it can't hold 3.2v under load and then snap back when load disconnected (after 1min) then probably b grade or lower. 0.2c isn't quite testing enough.
@OffGridGarageAustralia Жыл бұрын
0.2C is the standard test current for battery tests. But you're right, a higher C-rate could better show the cells quality. In solar installations such higher C-rates rarely occur though, so I thing 0.2C is fine for what people can expect from such a battery.
@camwood7600 Жыл бұрын
@@OffGridGarageAustralia I agree that they say 0.2c is a standard metric, but the reality is at this level, lower quality cells aren't exposed and can appear to be of a higher quality. A grade eve 304 cells can still maintain cell voltage of 3.2 even when getting smashed at high c rates. I think it would be a great video to record cell voltages as you draw say 5000w and above. Push em until they break😁
@cartercloutm Жыл бұрын
@@camwood7600 would it tell you anything about the long term prospects of owning such a battery? It's one of the big unknowns - as to whether the 6000 cycles / 80% capacity claim is just hot air and these lower-brand offerings will end up with unusable losses after only 2-3 years / 1000 cycles. If ability to cope under high c-rates correlated with degradation over time, then it would be a worthy test.

Excellent Andy. 👍 Interesting also that cell #3 was tied with one other (14 I think?) as the lowest voltages when the battery was full, and it was this cell #3 that stopped the discharge. Therefore as you mention at the end, I’m also guessing that with more balanced cells (hmmm, a better balance current) you may perhaps have gained a couple more amp hours from the battery. Like you, I’m not a fan of these milliamp balancing currents on cells of this size!
@OffGridGarageAustralia Жыл бұрын
I could measure 60mA balancing current with this BMS. That's not gonna work. I'll fix that in one of the next videos ;) Yeah, the whole battery was not very well balanced when delivered which is a shame. I would expect this to be perfectly top balanced before shipping. They could use a bunch of crocodile clamps and quickly connect an active balancer for a few hours which would do the job after assembling the battery.

Hi Andy, on VRM DC input or output is not calculated as Feed-in or consumption, it mainly uses ve-bus data for the graphs, if you have grid feed in and connect a dc genset, you would see the grid usage go down. And go up with dc consumption. This is weird, but the reason is, it is not taking the bmv or smart shunt data into account, also dvcc is not working with external dc in or output. I already discussed this before with Victron but they are saying the vrm is designed this way. If you would use the output of the multiplus to feed your car, data would be correct.
@OffGridGarageAustralia Жыл бұрын
It all works perfectly fine when using the Smart Shunt or BMV. DC Power is then calculated as kWh and accumulates with the Multiplus output. Perfect. I don't know why the Lynx Shunt does not do this any more all of the sudden. It seems a big step backwards for me.
@wilvandendoel6782 Жыл бұрын
Oké, I think then that the fact that I am using ess makes the difference, never tried it it in off grid mode, if you say it did work, then fine. May be check your battery monitor setting in the gx, may be its on automatic and has chosen a different device then before, don’t know your complete system , just a guess.

Another indication of cell quality is how well they stay in balance. Charge to 100%, do a top balance and then work the battery between 20% and 80% for a few days...maybe a week. Then charge it again to 100% and see if the cells are still balanced.

I'm struggling to find a useful watt-hr / amp-hr tool for capacity testing 7 large batteries so I can parallel them into close-as-possible capacity pairs. I hadn't thought of using a Smart Shunt! What happens to the Smart Shunt data at the end when the BMS disables discharge? Does a Smart Shunt "remember" or do you have to quasi-panically monitor the end game?

Why are the lights on distributor red? mine are as well with heavy loads
@OffGridGarageAustralia Жыл бұрын
Means, the fuses are blown or not installed for this particular circuit of the Distributor. If this happens under heavy load, you have a high resistance with your fuses. Check that and measure the voltage drop across the fuses when under load.

are you going to top balance it after putting some more reasonable values in the built in BMS and "trickle" the current in at the top to allow the top balancing to work? Would take ages with mV balancers though..... days? a week or more?

Yes, next videos... 😉 I measured the balance current of this BMS and it seems to be only 50-60mA per cell. Yeah, that would take a loooooong time.

First of all, do you need an additional balancer at all? Do a top balancing and use the battery for a few times before fully recharging. Check the balance again. What BMS do you use at the moment?

I have an Daly Smart BMS 200A. The battery is not in use in the moment. I wait since a close year of a replacement from Basen, because there was 2 cells in my delivery with over 50mohm IR. Annoying enough but anyway... so you think I need just to check first how it is working and how the deviation will be before think about the "right" balancer?

Hi from Berlin! Kann man hier auch Fragen in Deutsch stellen? But anyway, I need a 24V 100Ah battery - I thought about putting two 12v 100ah in series. Do I need something like the Victron battery balencer to keep the two balenced? And do I need a 100A or a 200A BMS in each 100Ah battery if I want to run a 2560W inverter? Does it make any sense to get a BMS with overhead? I would really appreciate if you answer my questions.

have you checked the right prices or do you believe in the fake prices ? You need to use the lead price which is 2700 and not 1200 - quite a difference and that gets even bigger once you ask for a ddp price to your door which is the only price you should ever accept just to avoid all the risks of fees at delivery. I doubt that the price is still that good as this is just the test result of the battery delivered to andy cause you might get a completely different one, not the EVE LF230K with 6000 cycles as mentioned in the product description (the cycles).
