QT#91- Display Current Value + the Change From Previous Week on Data Labels on a Power BI Line Chart

In this video, I'll explain how to configure a data label on a Power BI line chart to show the current value plus the change between the current value and the value of the previous week.
This is helpful because the reader of the chart can quickly establish the exchange change from the prior week without having to carry out this calculation in their head.
In addition to the change from last week, I'll also add an up or down indicator. This further reduces the cognitive load because it makes it explicitly clear if the value is higher or lower than the prior week.
Obviously, this will also be apparent by the position of the data point in relation to the point the previous week on the y-axis (e.g. above it is higher, below is lower) but I think the indicator adds an extra touch to make it even easier to read the direction of change.
Finally, I'll modify the chart so that it displays only the first data label value and the values for the last 5 weeks. This is useful for a few reasons.
1. It simplifies the chart by removing data points that are not particularly relevant. In our case, we are increasing the number of characters displayed for each data label so it makes even more sense to simplify the chart by removing some of these labels.
2. Adding the first data point provides the reader with an orientation point. Following the trend line from this point forward allows the reader to understand the direction of the trend from that starting value onward.
3. Generally speaking the further back in time we go, the less we are interested in the actual values. This is not always the case but let's assume it is for this example. Displaying the data labels for the last 5 weeks helps focus on recent performance.

Hi Jason, Excellent contextual approach mate. I downloaded the “Power KPI 2.0” visual and applied it to three charts (modelling Actual vs. Target) I’m trying to display the Target as an “Area” with the Actual as a normal “Line” overlayed. Challenge I have is that two of my three charts, have Actual line “behind” the Target Area chart. Is there a way to bring the Actual line chart “Forward” relative to the Target?

One more question please, regarding “Power KPI 2.0” Is there a way to “Sync” the primary and secondary “Y Axis”
