You are WRONG. Any "ownership" required a registration or proclamation. "Diao-Yue-Tai" was registered as a Japanese territory EARLIER than China's claim. That's WHY "Diao-Yue-Tai" has belonged to Japan. Remember Taiwan's "Bao-Diao Movement" of 1971? WHY the ROC did not even ask Taiwanese to protest against American decision on Diao-Yue-Tai? Very simple. The ROC was an EXILED Chinese regime that did (does) not even have sovereignty over Taiwan! The ROC did not have a position to fight for Taiwan!

@@cambridgeeng5 You are WRONG.China discovered and managed islands such as Diaoyutai as early as the 14th century. It was not until the Treaty of Shimonoseki was signed in April 1895 that Diaoyutai was ceded to the Japanese government along with Taiwan. Therefore, the Japanese government should accept the Potsdam Proclamation and Cairo After the Declaration, Diaoyutai was returned to China.
