I grew up there; moved away in 1994 when I was in my 20’s. I still get homesick. You never get that river out of your system. Next time through, make sure you get Harris Pizza and Whitey’s ice cream!

My dad was from Moline. He met my mom(who is from Pennsylvania) one day in the early 80s after he responded to an ad my mom put out for a drummer for her band. They got married on the Mississippi River on his dads boat(it was big enough for a wedding). In ‘88, they moved to LA, with the hope that they would become rock stars. They lived there for 8 years before moving to Pennsylvania in ‘96. Three years later, in ‘99, they had me. In the first 10 years of my life, my uncle on my dads side visited from Texas once. That was around when I was four, so I don’t remember much from that visit. Then, my dad took me to Moline 5 times over the course of 6 years, 2007-2012. The first time he took me there was September, ‘07. My grandma had came to visit us from Moline via train for a bit. She came with us in the car back to Moline. We then went back for thanksgiving in ‘09. Then in ‘10, my dad took me there for my 11th birthday. While there, I saw my uncle again. The last two trips were thanksgiving ‘11, and late July 2012. My dad went back for Christmas later that year and New Years, while i stayed home in Pa. Unfortunately, he passed in 2013 from cancer, so that’s partly why I haven’t been back. I had 3 separate chances to go back, but the plans fell through each time. I miss being there. One day I’ll be able to go back. One day.

@@johnversluis3084 I'm actually planning a trip back there this summer with my brother and sister in law.(I live in San Antonio and they live in Oklahoma city now.) I expect it to be totally unrecognizable. Where in the Quad Cities did you grow up?

You visited the Quad Cities and went to Applebee's??? Should have gotten Harris in Rock Island or Sluggers in Silvis or went to Frank's in Silvis. Haven't been back home in a few years, but if that Hyatt is in East Moline, you were right next to Silvis. I live in Michigan now... sure miss the pizza there
