the early 90s era (1989-1992) was basically the highest evolution of 80s electronic pop music. It was bizarre how the sound of Cathy Dennis/Black Box/CeCe Peniston suddenly disappeared, and was replaced in 1993 by the much more acoustic & introspective sound that people today generally associate with 90s music. The early 90s are a unique era separate from the rest of that decade.

It’s the year 2023, 54yo, same age as Cathy. Rewind 34 years too 1989 and I was there experiencing this in real-time when Cathy first released it. I bought 2 copies on 12" Vinyl and cassette in 1990, and then on CD in the mid and late 90's when everyone forgot about Cathy’s music. Fast-Forward too 2003 and late 80’s / early 90's funk/house/dance music was now deemed too cringie to play. Not me, I never stopped spinning Cathy’s vinyl and CDs, ever! Loved her from the day I first heard her amazing voice. Funny how music tastes change over time but how masterpieces are eventually recognized and appreciated, even if you missed them the first time round. The 80’s/90’s was an amazing era to be a teenager and young adult. I’m so blessed to have experienced Cathy's talent first-hand in real-time and space. I’m still grooving to her music 30+ years later. Thanks to future innovation new-gens get to appreciate what we experienced in real-time.

The 90s dance was openly commercial unlike the originality of the 80s, but Ms. Cathy's pieces opened the decade in a big way and really excited my feet, although I had to continue mixing the records, but I managed to escape for a few moments to dance with a friend nearby. An unforgettable lady, Cathy, beautiful smile, great neck movement, sweet voice...

Dennis achieved much more success as a songwriter. She's responsible (or to blame) for Britney Spear's "Toxic", Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl", Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out of My Head" and Kelly Clarkson's "Before Your Love" among many others.

Released in 1989 & 1990, but failed to chart. It was re-released a third time and finally hit #9 in winter of 1991. I still love it 💜💚💙💖!

The stars say you're my best lover Matched up like sugar for a cake They say our love could conquer anything I'd always hide my feelings Keep them so cool and so contained This time it's something I just can't retain Cos you give me a good vibe don't you know baby You give me funky love, funky love Could this be what love's all about baby Or is it just another dream Is this for real or is it just another dream Is this for real or is it just another dream Is this for real or is it just another dream Is this for real or is it just another dream Your voice it calls me everywhere It haunts my room most everynight This thing has sure enough got me on the line No chance for explaination It seems my heart has led the way Is this my chance to find mon amour porfait Cos you give me a good vibe don't you know baby You give me funky love, funky love Could this be what love's all about baby Or is it just another dream Is this for real or is it just another dream Is this for real or is it just another dream Is this for real or is it just another dream Is this for real or is it just another dream Love can be so misleading I'd cross the earth both land and sea When I feel that moment badgering me Could be it's just illusion But in feeling something good indeed Is this where loving starts to mirror my dreams Cos you give me a good vibe don't you know baby You give me funky love, funky love Could this be what love's all about baby Or is it just another dream Is this for real or is it just another dream Is this for real or is it just another dream Is this for real or is it just another dream Is this for real or is it just another

Listening to Cathy Dennis in 2020 like in my College years. I purchased the tape cassette in 1989 or 1990 and played it till the tape got stuck in the player. Then, I eventually purchased the CD. Love the whole album!!!

when it came out, my husband bought it for me even though we were heavy rockers, He'd call from work and play it on the phone as I worked on Broadway, now my dad's going to want you to sing these three songs on this CD and the dances, He loved when I would (He recently passed) sadly my husband passed away not to long after in the Gulf! I was 25 years old :( Never get sick of a song reminds you of good memories! He was my Qxgyn My Angle Lost my second husbands by 27, some songs give you a moment in time when everything was great, I could never forget either of them ones resting in Arlington with our two children I lost sadly before they were born, love these songs and the smiles ill crack music is amazing!

One of my dream film projects when I was going to school was making a movie about a shopping mall in the 90s. This would've been the perfect song for the opening scene/credits. So good. I hope Dan Bell uses this for a dead mall video lol.

I don’t know what it is about her voice- it’s certainly not the greatest voice I ever heard but for some reason I’ve always just really liked it. I’d rather turn on the radio and hear Cathy’s voice instead of Whitney or Celine who are known for having better voices, iconic voices. Something about Cathy’s voice is so pleasing to listen to- she’s always reminded me of Sheena Easton. They have similar qualities to their voices.
