I'm sorry but the answers to the equation u^2 - 2u - 8 = 0 are 4 and -2 because the sum of the roots of the equation must be (-b)/a which in this case is 2 not -2. If you check out the Viet's formula for quadratic equations it is x^2 -px + q where p is the sum of the roots of the equation and q is their product. Also p = (-b)/a and q = c/a. The letters "a","b" and "c" come from the general quadratic equation presentation ax^2+bx+c=0.

Your answer is wrong the roots of the equation will be -2 & 4 and thus value of x will be 2 the other set of roots that is -4 & 2 is wrong
