@@Life_With_Lady it’s not always rust! They carry iron ore, the dust from that cakes on and looks exactly like rust because it’s also oxygenated iron, you can often tell when a wave or something washes part of it away. But there are a few genuinely rust ones as well!

@@jonathanellsworth21 See ya learn something new every day. Perhaps you know the thickness of the steal hull? Cause with all those scratches on them you would think they would thin over time and rupture.
@jonathanellsworth21Ай бұрын
@@Life_With_Lady it does thin over time and they require semi-regular steel replacement, but from what I understand it’s not usually from the direction you’re thinking. It’s mostly from the inside, which essentially gets pounded by hundreds of millions of pounds of rocks 27/7, especially while loading and unloading. Sure the outside gets a scrape every now and then but it’s nothing compared to what the inside sees. The difference is the external damage is more visible because of paint, the steel itself usually isn’t affected too badly. But on occasion they’ll add steel to the outside as well, especially around the bow. Saginaw for instance had a very visible “patch” of added steel for several years before they finally blended it in properly with the rest of the hull. That was after 70 some years though

I was in Thunder Bay Ontario and they sure have a lot off Salties ocean going vessels sitting in Harbour waiting for orders the Lakers come in and go right to one of the elevators to load grain oats peas but they never have to wait and anchor like the oceans ships some times there's up to a dozen anchored in Harbour for days waiting for orders paper work it's a really busy port Thunder Bay now and over years is getting busier and busier lots of ocean ships loading peas or grain for new Zealand UK these guys working on these ships the hours and days just sitting waiting it's not a job for everyone
@WilSan-oj8ln6 ай бұрын
These ship videos are really wonderful. They will make a great historical record when the Lakers are all gone in the very near future. The Environmental Extremists are on a mission to stop all mining in Minnesota including Taconite Mining. They and their Twin Cities/Duluth Liberal (DFL) friends and the Tribes are trying to introduce permitting legislation, which if passed, will be used against not only Copper/Nickel Mining but Taconite Mining too! When Mining (including Coal) is gone, the Lakers will no longer be needed. The ironic thing is the Liberal Duluth DFL can’t see that their actions and that of their Environmentalist, Tribal and Twin Cities allies will also kill their precious Canal Park Tourism along with Mining but they are too blind to see (nor do they care about) the final outcome of the actions they are taking against Mining. It is also ironic that Duluth/Superior metro is the Largest Polluter of Lake Superior! Every grain of sand/salt used on their roads, every hazardous spill from their residents/businesses, every herbicide/pesticide they use, all of the garbage/cigarette butts and oil from cars on their streets, all of the sewage overflows and all of the human excrement from their homeless people get washed into Lake Superior in vast quantities. (This applies even more to the Twin Cities Metro, the largest Polluter of the Upper Mississippi River) Maybe you people should clean up your own pollution issues that have gone on for well over 100 years instead of worrying about your trumped up pollution issues from Mining. Enjoy the Show while you still can 😉

I have my own political opinions as well and while I’d love to share them, that is not the goal of my videos. Any more political comments or replies will be removed. We’re here to watch ships and have fun. Not debate political fear mongering from either side. If politics ever becomes relevant to the situation then it might be worth more attention but for the time being this does nothing but needlessly scare people with speculation that I can safely say is not true, at least for the moment. Which is not ok.
