Apparently Taylor's voice was already changing while they were recording it for their major-label album, but the producers were really in love with the sound of the original key because of how bright and Jackson 5-ish it sounded so they pulled out all the stops to make sure Taylor held onto those high notes JUST long enough to get it on tape. By the time the record dropped, though...well, other things had also dropped. And they've never played it in the original key since. You should check out the String Theory version.

From the moment I saw the video I knew he was a guy. I actually knew from just hearing the song the first time. I was the same age and could easily hear the difference between a 13/14 Year old boy and a 13/14 year old girl. It's not hard to hear the difference actually and as far as how he looked.... Well I don't actually know anyone in real life that mistook him for a girl. To me he was clearly a boy. I don't know how anyone actually mistook him for a girl now that I think about it.
