Little fun fact about this track. When I worked on it, the intro loop was programmed using samples off an Roland S760 sampler. The midi timing was off so it skipped a beat. I decided to leave it in there. So its basically playing an odd meter over the straight riff. ;)

@@Kevin5279 And then Half Life came along. Amazing times those were. I was a teenager. I remember how Unreal blew my mind away. I remember how amazing Quake 2 was and Half Life was something else entirely. Graphics wise Unreal was something else. It was really deserving of it's name, unreal.
@Kevin5279
@Kevin5279 3 жыл бұрын
@@urazoktay7940 True. I would say Half Life objectively was the better game than Unreal since it was more groundbreaking at the time. It served as the blueprint for most new school shooters after it since it dumped the previously established trope of speed and labyrinthine key hunting for something more realistic. But looking back, I'd say I still prefer Unreal over Half Life. After playing tons of tactical shooters I really don't like the general direction the genre has taken. Not blaming Half Life, but as Civvie says "later shooters learned all the wrong lessons from Half Life"
@CarrotCake7
@CarrotCake7 2 жыл бұрын
@@urazoktay7940 id software pushed the boundaries of real-time graphics engines. The graphics progressively were amazing. Every time a new Quake came out, people payed $$ upgraded their computer specs. Intel loved id software for that reason. Then Unreal, Half-life etc.. kinda took over a bit from there. Nevertheless, id software and John Carmack have achieved a special place in gaming history.

Unfortunately ALL the big fps games nowadays just have orchestral music. They're all just trying to rip each other off. Quake 2, Half-Life and Unreal Tournament were both unique and engaging with their own styles, even though they both involved aliens. Now...no comment.

Kyle Batteson Now it's basically all generic dramatic bullcrap that's practically the same. Now for Unreal Tournament, I can't name a track in that soundtrack that I DON'T like to be honest. I played a lot of half life and thought the music was cool in most cases, but I didn't play a whole lot of Quake/Q2, but what I did play/hear was awesome.

This song makes me miss the old days of the Rocket Arenas.. 20 people running around tight spaces firing rockets at every angle possible. The old days of RAGING and never realizing you were getting your ass handed to you by an 8 year old. I grew up in a fortunate 90s gaming family which owned a rental store and arcade machines, I had every system up to the fabled NEO-GEO and plenty of Arcade cartridges for them. Siigh those were the days.

There were 2 video game soundtracks that would be on instant repeat on my stereo as a little kid. Quake 2 and Starsiege. Special thanks to Sonic Mayhem for not only making one of the best video game soundtracks of all time, but for making some of the greatest heavy metal of all time.

That is because your bed is now a crashed orbital drop pod. Its outsides still seared and steaming from the burn of atmo re-entry. Outside your bedroom, cybernetic mechanized nightmares are waiting to rend you limb from limb. Get up, Marine! Complete your mission!

mknomad5 Got it!! It rocks. But hey, if anyone is thinking of getting this on Steam. Guess What??!! NO MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But there is a patch I found in the comments which is totally sweet, it enhances the graphics, settings, etc., and adds the music back in. Sorry for the language, but SCREW YOU, STEAM!!!!!!!! I like Steam a lot, but that is 100% unforgivable.

+mknomad5 Awesome dude. It's actually not steams fault really. The original MP3 sound track was on the actual CD that went into the disc drive, instead of in the game files; and the music would play straight from the CD. I had the same issue with Quake 1 which was fixed by mods.

well, I own a copy of every Quake on Steam because my CD's are long gone, I remember the 90's where having that disc was like a sign of badassness. I have been a Quake fan since the 1 level test version leaked before Q1 came out, where you could run around and spawn a Shambler who could not see you. It was still mind-blowing playing in a full 3d environment with polygons you could walk around in a full circle rather than 2d sprites that was the standard at the time.

Ok hear me out - listen to this & compare the riff to Collective Soul's "Heavy". Tell me they aren't related or at least similar, I remember in high school hearing Heavy on the radio & immediately getting into Q2 "let's f*ck everything up" mode
