I played this back in 2001 online like crazy. One of the few PAL versions who's online mode did NOT get scrubbed before release (Looking at YOU, Unreal Tournament.....) and i even made some friends back then while playing online whom i talked to via phone afterwards so we sent each other SMS texts. I was lucky enough of having the keyboard when i got my Dreamcast so browsing with it and chatting was super easy. I never had the mouse though but my best friend did, including a PS/2 to DC controller adaper so he could hook up a standard PS/2 computer keyboard to it. That's how he played Quake 3 online on the Dreamcast. That Son of a... had such a major benefit since i only played it with gamepad :P

Q3 online for DC with KB+M is worth all the acquisition and setup effort, alone, followed by all the online titles behind that, via controller. 👍 ....Sharing that sentiment regarding UT, specifically, for PS2. ...Was especially impressed with UT as a ported PS2 launch title for already having support for KB+M (controls I'd also expected but was denied in the porting of Tribes 2 as *_Tribes: Aerial Assault_* on PS2 a couple years later) as well as hybrid controls - Dualshock left thumbstick/shoulder buttons+Mouse - while still, optionally, retaining KB as a third input device to hybrid controls for dropping/sharing current weapon, a handful of body-language taunts (no selectable verbal taunts), direct weapon select and, constrained to certain game mode(s), bot commanding... But, even though UT for PS2 nailed down those KB+M controls like Q3 on DC then added hybrid controls, I was greatly disappointed when UT didn't include online nor at least ethernet LAN support which would've made it playable online via LAN-tunneling/XLink Kai if not traditional online-MP. Astonishingly, the porting team (I'm assuming) didn't have funding/time and/or access to the PS2 network adapter or, otherwise, the short-lived USB online adapter for testing in order to bring online play to market. Contrasted to Q3 on DC, the only way to connect PS2s for UT, unfortunately, is via the support for iLink/s400 jack only 39xxx and earlier PS2 models and strictly through the NTSC-U/C release and, for up to 3-4 players (a low capacity), via a firewire hub. Firewire cables, IIRC, were more expensive than ethernet. And, for some reason, 3rd and 4th UT players required an unpublished controller button passcode entry for them to connect to the hosting PS2 whereas, IIRC, no other PS2 title required that (unless that's the only way Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon for PS2 iLinked up). All PS2 buyers of models after 39xxx would then be without the iLink/s400 4-pin Firewire connection all together so that UT system-link wasn't even possible after that point. Adding insult, Q3 on PS2 not including KB+M nor, preferrably, online if not at least ethernet LAN play (allowing for LAN-tunneling) was such a let-down especially in the face of what tech came prior to build reasonable expectations... .....Meanwhile, on DC, Q3 stills runs with the crucial mouse control for fragging online. DC features, in these regards and more, is a no-brainer decision for me.

@@That_Handle My best buddy had an US Import of Unreal Tournament on the Dreamcast, which he played via a Boot Disc on his PAL DC and he even played it online. Even though the lags were ofc insane since he still only had the standard 33k Modem on his Dreamcast and there were no real servers in Europe. BUT it was possible. And till this day i like the DC exclusive maps like "Flux" and really miss them in the PC version. For the PC version of Quake III Arena we had at least the DC map pack that also included the map "Blue Monday" which was one of my favorites.

Well... you don't NEED an old CRT television to play Dreamcast in 2022(3). My LG 1080p HDTV from 2006 has a/v in. Actually, it has two of them. And a VGA, so I use it as my PC monitor, as well. I still use my CRT for Genesis, SNES, and anything older. That's right... I hook up my N64 to one of the a/v in ports on my HDTV... looks great!
