What really makes this work is Quake's sound design. Each sound is unique enough that the player can identify it without any visual, which is imperative for a good movement shooter. Because the sounds are so unique, they're easily parodied.

Yeah it was similar with Half-Life. The sounds are all so characteristic, it's easy to pick them out even when they're parodied.

Perhaps another view on Quake, in your favourite part of the game, with you new, funny, but still professional attitude sounds of your own. I can see it grow in my eyes. No talk, no bs, just your own sounds to a classic game in your own chosen part of the game. If you have a memory, connection, experience or Gods guidance, you can have a part time business doing your own sounds to classic games.
