It's mainly about predicting how people will move and shoot at you, subverting what angles and tactics they expect from you. A lot of the players smoke weed or have a drink before playing, keeping your hands steady and being careful is better than moving around hella fast, usually. Plus once you know how how the movement and weapons all work it just comes down to practice

Low skill players think good ones have crazy fast reactions but they just have very high game knowledge and can predict every situation accurately and thats why their shots look insane

Bruh, hope you tried it since this comment. If not, you're really missing out, but don't expect to be too good from the get go. The movement takes a lot of practice. Rocket jumping at will and doing perfect circle jumps like you see in the video takes many hours to master. Weapon switching depending on range is hard too but quicker to get the hang of if you set proper binds. And if this looks a bit old to you, try Quake Champions. I think it's even free to play now.

tried to get back on EU CA servers after watching this video. Been tinkering with my .cfg file for 2 hours only to end up deleting it all and remake it from scratch. then waited half an hr in a lobby to be able join, wasn't possible. 10/10 can recommend I probably was one of the last 50 players remaining on that day. I miss the glory days of quake like for real :( I have 10s of thousands of hrs invested into it, but there just seems to be nothing left

in EU the busstation server is still active they have CA parties every day. They're also pretty friendly to new players. It's where i started and still am playing CA.

I'm playing both this and Quake Champions quite regularly. Quake 2 was the first 3D shooter I ever played, with Half Life and a beta version of Counter Strike shortly after. I'm proud to say I still play Quake and CS more than 20 years later. Gotta admit, I prefer Champions over Live.

I installed it, and got kicked immediately after joining the one populated server with decent ping, because game switched my team color after warmup (which confused me) and I did 0 dmg by targeting teammates. Someone didn't like it and they vote kicked me

Jokes on you, I still have it installed :) Game is definitely far from dead. Even with only 200-300 daily players I can still find a CA or duel server to play on 24/7, and that's the only thing that matters. Been playing QL since 2010. I'm not as active as I used to be, but I always come back to the game every now and then to kick some ass. One does not simply quit QL, you always come back cuz it's THAT good :)

its worth getting just because its quake live IMO. However, most folks playing are damn good at the game so its a tough grind to not be 0-20 every match initially. find friends to play 1v1's or 2v2's for fun and you will enjoy it for sure.
