Definitely has the Jeehun Hwang sound. This mission pack was my favorite largely because of the soundtrack. I also played Heavy Gear (was a beta tester) and I know I had both of these games on my computer at the same time but I never realized the same guy did the tracks for both. These soundtracks sound VERY much alike.

Wasn't this also made by Trent? Thought he made the Expansion pack music too.

Hey sorry for a late comment here, which is always a bit out of place. But Jeehun, i been a big fan of him since i heard his tracks in Battlezone ( the original and the remaster). Many of the tracks you hear, those military drums and flutes(?) takes me right back to Battlezone. Ofcourse his tracks for the Quake expansion is markedly different mostly but i hear that Battlezone creeping up. :D Good composer that man, he made an impact.

@@al112v4 reaching out from the future... no, Trent Reznor did not do the soundtracks for the expansions. To my knowledge the only video game soundtrack he has ever produced was the original Quake OST. He was apparently approached for the Quake 2 soundtrack but wasn't interested based on what he charitably said was a lack of atmosphere. As others have pointed out, the Dissolution of Eternity soundtrack is by Jeehun Hwang, who I mostly knew from the Mechwarrior 2 soundtracks, and apparently he also did Battlezone and Heavy Gear so I will have to go check those as well.

This was the most melodic and ''adventurous'' sounding music in the entire original Quake line. Love it.

The track at 12:39 has some string sections which remind me slightly of the opening theme to Reanimator (which closely imitates the "Psycho theme", as people refer to it as).

I'm actually really disappointed by how there's almost no Lovecraftian influence with the Quake mission packs, SoA or DoE, they both feel like the odd man out of Quake

I'm not a fan of most of the tracks from either expansion. The ost from the main game I put to max volume, but lower it when I get to these. I think most songs from them are just too generic sounding, and get ear-grating FAST.

Ian McLean I want to say that the one weakness of the original soundtrack is that it really lacks variety; Quake boots up and as the demo plays you get a totally sweet high tempo, industrial rock-ish action theme that's well suited for the demo display, with all the running and gunning. However, in the game, you only get slow tempo atmospheric themes. I like the atmospheric tracks a bunch, but while they fit a bunch of the levels really well, some of them call for something more exciting and adrenaline pumping, like the tracks in Scourge Of Armagon and Dissolution Of Eternity. One of the many, many things Doom hit bull's eye with was the variety of music tracks, giving a mix of fast and intense action themes, and down-tempo melodic atmospheric themes, each well suited for their levels. It really gave each level (and the game as a whole) more identity, and put you in a wider range of moods. On the other hand though, Quake being mostly spooky atmospheric music does a lot for the whole Lovecraftian horror themeing the game kinda has going, that you're going places where humans don't at all belong, and that the worlds are uncanny and weird.

It's funny that this soundtrack was tagged on my mp3 files as being composed by Trent Reznor. It was weird, because it definitely has the Jeehun Hwang approach as you mentioned already. Seemed like Trent copycated Jeehun's style lol. Now it all makes sense.

I hate the change in style from the original Quake ost. Ruins the entire Quake's atmosphere. I play the expansions with the music off. And the very irregular and mediocre map design feels like a mod. Enemies act strange full of bugs! It's sad that they never been able to repeat something as good as Quake 1.
@sbritorodr6 ай бұрын
I completely disagree you. This gives a different touch to Quake as a whole, and that's cool. I have enough Quake for four episodes, I want something different.

The expansions are certainly different from the main game. When I first booted up Scourge of Armagon I was almost shocked with what I was hearing. And even after finishing it, Dissolution of Eternity, Dimension of the past and Dimension of the Machine, I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed that the atmosphere of the base game wasn't quite met with the first two expansions. But then I played Quake II. Christ. Awesome game, mediocre and generic atmosphere at best. So much so that I went and replayed Scourge of Armagon. And then I realized: It had a differently similar atmosphere. It had a different take on the dark fantasy that I so much adored in the base game. You could say that you only appreciate what you have when you lose it. And Quake II certainly did just that with Quake's expansions.

Наравне с Scourge of Armagon это КЛАССИКА! Странно, что лишь для аддонов Quake 1 писали хорошую музыку, для всех остальных игр серии, начиная с Quake II, музыка ничем не примечательна.
