Quake 1 was one of my favorite games to completely blast through using gyro. Although Quake 3 I still stick to mouse and keyboard for personal tastes (I can do fine on it there but bhops are easier on mnk for me). It's quite a great game to show the raw power of gyro as the game was always desgined first with mouse in mind. It did have arrow key controls though.... But when you watch someone play with a controller, its a significant jump down in aiming, even if the remaster made the controller settings better. I feel like a lot of people don't see the true power of gyro until they play a game that wasn't even made with controllers in mind. I think games like Killing Floor and F.E.A.R are a great example of this as well.

@@tekgeekster yeah software is a big factor in how good anlog aiming is and the players skill, but the problem is, it's software and so, many games severely can mess it up (Quake remaster is a great example). Where as gyro or mouse isn't really held back by software, sticks can be bad if not done right and this is what really bothers me most as a console gamer. Some games can feel fine to good on just a stick and others, outright dreadful. where as mouse and gyro, for the most part my aims consistent between any game unless the game has weird issues with mouse input and overlays. I beat Quake multiple times and I've beaten it all on PC, xbox and switch. Using mouse on each felt perfect, using gyro on pc was business as usually (switch it feels a bit smoothed out and slightly jittery). And on xbox? Oh my god I went from speed running levels to awkwardly aiming and using my body to aim at times. I don't think it'd be perfect if it was great stick aiming but because it isn't, its so bad. Quake is a good example of a PC game being reconfigured for a input that isn't the most idea for it especially and the devs didn't really get it right. So it feels especially bad.

@@tekgeekster yeah there are examples of mouse and gyro being messed up, its why I specified "raw input" because when theres no problems caused by games themselves, it's basically as perfect as can be. Its just sometimes devs can be a bit dummi doe (accel on mouse games became really bad in the beginning of the ps360 generation) Although I've been using software to add in acceleration for PC games on mouse with curves, became quite a fan of using proper good mouse acceleration and use it all the time on fast games like Quake or slower games like CSGO. Gyro is a similar problem where raw input wise, it's great, but so many games can stumble on native implementation. Also Apex on switch is quite bad but I can't figure out which is worse for me personally Paladins, Apex or Vigor. It took us over a decade to get mouse aim universally good on PC after the PS360 generation and I feel that's gonna be the same for gyro. It's adoption is getting better but not enough devs really do much to get it good messing up basic aiming settings. Fortnite set a new standard with the new update, problem is gyro still isn't standard and we don't know if devs will consider the way Fortnite finetuned it thanks to Jibb.

While joystick sucks for aiming, it seems that they are quite good for air strafing.

do you move with dpad in all shooters and if you do how do you use sprint asking because I used to do the same exact thing

The 4 face buttons. Quake 1 has quick swap keys on the dpad, so I moved that to ABXY/XO□∆

The left bumper you mean. I'm a bumper jumper. I just set it up in steam. Steam input lets you autofire buttons.

@@tekgeekster that's cool. There's an open source game based on the darkplaces engine i think you'd like. It's called xonotic and it's basically quake champions for boomers

My only gripes with the switch's (and PS4's) controls is the minor deadzone it has, the lack of a gyro pause option, and the intervals for the gyro sensitivity being 0.15 instead of 0.1 (although 0.1 would decrease the max from a 9.6 to a 6.4 if that doesn't get updated too).

No. I never use flick stick in quake unless it's exclusively for turning around. I use analog steering for b-hopping. I don't like flick stick for that. But that's more just my preference.
