In my opinion, this is THE most defining aspect of Quakerism; the heart, the thread, the common denominator.

After attending some meetings if you feel convinced that Quakerism meets your spiritual condition let the clerk know of your interest to become a member of the meeting. A clearness meeting with a few Friends will then be arranged to help you discern that becoming a Friend is indeed best for you. After making your decision you will be welcomed and registered as a Friend of the Meeting.

You're thinking of Mormons. Literally everyone has always been allowed to join the Quaker church. Because of the Quaker view of a personal connection with God too, there's always been a lot of diversity in how Quakerism was expressed. For example there were early Quakers who were some of the first abolitionists, there were also early Quakers that owned slaves. Pennsylvania was literally a free state because William Penn was a Quaker. I am a Black Quaker. We exist.
